Beyond The Beaut y Ellie Malcolm In the past year, I have experienced a great number of opportunities through the title of USA National Miss South Carolina Teen. It was so much fun spending time with my sister queens doing photo shoots, modeling, parades, and the opportunity to have an article written about my platform and me. Since I have crowned my successor in August, I am focusing on my community, schoolwork, and taking time for myself. I am very involved in my high school where I am a member of Student Council, Leadership, Beta Club, Teacher Cadet and recently appointed Student Ambassador. I am also continuing to promote my personal platform, Give Me F.IV.E ?Find your passion. Initiate. Volunteer. Encourage other.? This platform focuses on getting young children educated about the importance of community service and volunteerism. I have visited local schools between the ages of K5-5th grade, and I teach them how having a servant?s heart can influence your community and peers. Since I am in Teacher Cadet, I am regularly in a kindergarten classroom, which means I get even more time to talk about Give Me F.I.V.E. Now you might be wondering what I am doing currently and what I plan to do in the future. As of now, I am doing practice pageants to prepare me for MAO South Carolina Teen. I have a fantastic and dedicated team including my hair and makeup artist Laken Mackenzie, pageant coach Meghan Gardner, and Interview Coach Sam Rainey. I am also experimenting perfecting my hair and makeup for appearances, which is so much fun! As for the future, I plan to attend The University of South Carolina and major in Communications and Broadcasting. I will continue to compete in pageants and be involved in the pageant community. I am so excited to see what the future holds for me, and I hope to continue my personal platform statewide.

My name is Lauren Forbes. I am 22 years old, born and raised in Peabody, Massachusetts. I am currently the first crowned Miss Pageant Planet, 2018 Miss Massachusetts East Coast USA Photogenic Supreme, and "Spirit Award" recipient of Miss Massachusetts USA 2018. The single most important thing to me is my education. I am currently in my final semester at the University of Massachusetts Boston with a double concentration in exercise/health sciences and biology on a pre-medical track. I will be applying to medical schools this upcoming spring. My life experiences have shaped both my empathy towards others and my motivation to succeed academically to achieve my goals. My main academic goal is to receive my Doctor of Medicine (MD) and pursue my dream career of becoming a pediatric neuro-oncologist. At a very young age, my brother was faced with the diagnosis of a debilitating brain stem tumor. The tumor was deemed inoperable, and he was given a maximum three-month survival time. However, I grew up watching a miracle as he fought all odds and survived. Growing up alongside his vigorous recovery process, I discovered my ultimate career goal: to pursue a future in the medical field helping children just like my brother to become living miracles, as well. If he did not seek a second opinion from a different physician, he would not be here today. I wish to be that life-changing ?opinion? for others, and to be the one remembered for saving their child. I serve as the official Massachusetts advocate for both the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) and Multi-Service Eating Disorder Association (MEDA), I live each and every day to raise awareness on these debilitating disorders. My passion has led me to work alongside the Massachusetts State House on policy changes. In January of 2018, I was successful in working one-on-one with our state senator and had the very first house bill passed in the state of MA regarding eating disorder awareness. I also have served as president of the Golden Key International Honor Society for the past 5 semesters, and serve on the international board of student members, traveling all over and expanding my leadership capacities. My long list of other extracurriculars range from volunteering at major Boston hospitals to teaching Anatomy & Physiology courses on-campus to pageantry!

After being bullied for years by her peers and teachers Samantha Sewell decided she?d had enough and became an activist for children and youth who were also victims of bullies. Samantha launched her platform ?Be Someone's Hero, Not a Bystander ? and founded the Canadian chapter of the Live Out Loud Charity. As a child with a speech impediment, Samantha was once told she may never speak like everyone else. She had to start using a picture book and American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate. None of her teachers or aids knew ASL, and most did not have the patience to wait for her to point to an answer in her picture book. Samantha soon became a target for bullies. Now 20 and speaking, despite all the odds against her, Samantha travels Internationally speaking on behalf of children and youth. Currently holding the title of Miss International Volunteer with the Miss Royalty International system, Samantha is using her crown to create an impact by helping those that don?t have a voice. Samantha is a first-year student at Gallaudet University the world?s leading ASL University and is studying ASL and Deaf Studies and eventually will be pursuing a BA in Interpretation. Samantha believes every person should know at least the alphabet in ASL. Photo by Kelsey Raber Photography

EXCLUSIVE W HO I S CHRISTOPHER GOFF

24

Christopher Benjamin Goff is an average guy from very humble beginnings, who happened to have very big dreams. His passion, love, and genuine demeanor have always been evident in his actions, and his outreach and philanthropy continue to grow today. Goff holds three college degrees, the most recent from Winthrop University in Marketing/Advertising. He is an Alumni Brother of Alpha Kappa Psi, a member of both honor societies Omicron Delta Kappa and Phi Theta Kappa and a former member of the SC All-State Academic Team. His former philanthropic partners include The Elloree Heritage Museum, Connie Maxwell Children?s Home, Salvation Army Crisis Center, Heartfelt Fashion, God?s Angels Holiday Deliveries, and The Real Me Foundation. Christopher Goff grew up very poor on what people would call the ?wrong side of the tracks.?Being raised in a domestically violent home as the oldest of six children in an interracial family in the 80s, many moves and many schools, odds seemed stacked against him. After moving with relatives during high school, he turned his life around. His Junior year of HS was spent abroad in Europe as a Rotary Exchange Student, studying and traveling across 7 countries. After graduation, he bartered between college and the workforce until buckling down and finishing not one, but 3 college degrees in addition to active involvement in many organizations. Those who know Christopher know about his non-biological nephew and twin nieces whose life he had an intricate part of for almost 8 straight years. After college, he moved home to foster them for close to two years while maintaining full-time employment and a new home. Once the children were settled with family, he felt overwhelmed and lost and returned to Charlotte to rediscover his calling. However, they will always hold a major part of his heart as they are what helped transition him from a boy to a man. Today, Goff runs Christography, an umbrella brand that holds as a foundation for others to build from as a team. He has produced two fashion productions and is currently working on his 3rd, has showcased during NYFW twice, continues to grow his skill as a designer, and of course will always continue photography. He looks to one day rejoin the corporate world, but currently he is happy devoting his time to developing his non-profit to support children aged out of foster care. Christopher looks to continue his part to grow the fashion industry in Charlotte and the Carolinas. He has a true teamwork mindset and supports everyone he partners with. If you?re looking for not only a professional, but a true relatable human being, give him a shout! You?ll be pleasantly surprised!
