Church Revitalisation Trust

The Church Revitalisation Trust (CRT) was set up in 2017 by Holy Trinity Brompton to play our part in the evangelisation of the nation, the revitalisation of the Church and the transformation of society.

to ensure the church is able to respond practically to some of the most challenging physical, mental and economical needs of society. Our vision is to reverse the decline of the church in our lifetime by planting churches for the 95% of our population who are unchurched. We plant churches which seek to be a blessing by meeting the spiritual and practical needs in cities and urban priority areas across our nation.

At the invitation of local Dioceses, CRT reclaims derelict and redundant iconic buildings, repurposing them for 21stc mission and ensures the church is equipped to reach out and serve the needs of the community.

We would love to invite you to be a part of this journey.

CRT recruits and trains entrepreneurial church leaders who lead vibrant congregations of men and women to serve their city, and CRT also partners with best practice social transformation projects

Nicky and Pippa Gumbel Vicar of HTB and Chair of CRT

Here at CRT, we are celebrating and grateful for all we see God doing through the Church across the country. With 20 churches planted to date and a growing Network of over 85 churches, momentum is building! We are humbled and excited to be playing our part in the evangelisation of the nation, the revitalisation of the Church and transformation of society. I would love to share with you stories of what we see happening in churches across the nation; hope for the hopeless, the broken restored, the lonely loved – the Church reimagining the future for the flourishing of society. Some say the Church is in decline, but we think it is poised for growth and would love to invite you to join the adventure! Lots of love, Sarah Jackson CEO of CRT

where we are around the world At the invitation of the local bishop and diocese, CRT is planting, partnering and helping to revitalise the global Church. The first plant outside the UK in 2014, Holy Trinity Bukit Bintang (HTBB), now has a worshipping congregation of 2,000 with 4 Sunday services. It is a regional resourcing hub for Alpha, theological training and has a vision to plant a further 5 churches into key cities across SE Asia.

KENYA

Renewal Church Nairobi was planted in 2018 by Chris and Abi Arnold with a team of 30 volunteers. They launched their first Alpha Course with 65 guests and have since launched a family service and AJAR, a legal aid project.

St Peter’s brighton case study In 2009, the Bishop of Chichester invited Archie and Sam Coates from Holy Trinity Brompton to plant a congregation into the derelict but iconic building of St Peter’s Brighton. Since that time, the worshipping community has grown to over 800 and St Peter’s has in turn planted 5 churches in Brighton and further afield.

8

Alongside their focus on evangelism and building the pastoral life of the church - including launching Alpha and overseeing a major premises restoration project - St Peter’s has demonstrated a strong commitment to tackling some of the key social issues facing the local community.

the multiplication effect St Peter’s is a model for how a resource church can multiply by planting into cities, towns and areas of social deprivation across our nation. Since 2009 St Peter’s has planted 5 new churches.

St Cuthman’s Church, located at the centre of this community, are on a mission to re-design church so that it works for the people they are there to serve. A team of volunteers run the weekly Foodbank Service providing emergency food packs and female sanitary products to the local community, many of whom face severe food poverty. Food bank guests are given a warm welcome over coffee and invited to make use of the CAP Debt Advice Service, the Wellbeing CafÊ which provides addiction recovery support and the Spear Programme for 16-24yr olds on the estate to help them successfully into employment. 12

Games, songs and high energy activities fill the weekly kids club, but it is the parallel work with families that is truly remarkable. Each week, the church team visit each one of the 80 families on the Kids Club register in their homes. Throughout the winter and summer, the Youth team daily provide 100 hot chocolates and smoothies for the secondary school students whose bus stops outside the church. The church is always open on youth nights, holiday clubs and special events. A new service is starting with these young people in mind. 13

Accelerator Programme The Accelerator Programme is a one-year intensive church planting programme. It equips and trains a cohort of men and women to lead either a vibrant City Centre Resource Church or a church in an Urban Priority Area. Harnessing world-class training and practitioners, the programme has a mixed mode ‘caught and taught’ curriculum, custom made to complement a leader’s experience and skill sets in three areas:

peter stream With around 40% of current clergy set to retire in the next decade, we need men and women from every ethnic and socio-economic background to step into leadership to ensure that future leaders of the church reflect the diversity of today. Working closely with St. Mellitus College, CRT is piloting and sponsoring a new pathway of discernment and training for the CofE which will empower men and women to lead the church, particularly supporting those who have felt excluded or disqualified based on ethnicity, education or socio-economic background. We want to raise up and train a cohort of diverse and dynamic church leaders for the future who will go on to plant churches, especially into areas of social deprivation. We believe that together we can turn the dial on church growth and play our part in revitalising the church in the UK, bringing a renewal of hope for the next generation.

15

leverage factor CRT is uniquely positioned to access iconic city centre buildings and release funding for church planting projects. With each project costing roughly £2m, we work together with the central governing body and local Dioceses to secure financial support and accelerate church growth.

Since 2017, the CRT operating budget has totalled £7.4m. We have accessed and released a further £14.43m, making a total of £21.83m available for church growth.
