As violence continue to stricken our community, the people of the Virgin Islands cry out for help, especially the mother’s of those who has lost their loved ones. On October 2, 2017, Nu Chi Zeta took a stance with the Million Mother’s March as we marched for Justice from Christiansted Fort to Frederiksted Fort. 1

On October 9, 2017 Nu Chi Zeta was highly represented at the Randal Doc James Race Track as apart of our annual “Race of the Cure”. “Race for the Cure” is an annual event in which we sponsor the Breast Cancer Classic providing the winner with a trophy as well as Breast Cancer statistics and the importance of getting checked. We informed the owner as well as jockey that men too can also be diagnosed.

To the Right service with a smile takes place as Nu Chi Zeta is pictured at a Meet the Candidate's Fun day hosted by Clean Up Hitters Movement. This organization is a group of young activist whose goal is to bring about a positive change in the Virgin Island’s community mainly with politics by encouraging our youths to vote and keeping them abreast of the issues affecting our territory. We played several games to include tug of war, egg toss, sack race, hula hoop contest, and water balloon toss. The highlight was when we won the tug of war against Senator Alicia “Chucky” Hansen’s team.

Being apart of a sisterhood we share fun, laughter, and smiles, but unfortunately, we also share frowns, sadness, and tears. Below sorors are pictured saying our Farewell On October 22, 2016 to our Soror Michelle Servin, Charter member

On October 23, 2016, the members of Nu Chi Zeta walked for a cause as we “tramped” (danced) the streets of Christiansted for the American Cancer Society’s Annual Breast Cancer walk with sweet local music by our very own Stanley and The 10 Sleepless Nights.

October 29, 2016 we held our most anticipated event, our 6th Annual Put Your Feet In Pink For the Cure, a Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraising Event. It was an informative, yet fun filled night. The event featured our famous shoe competition to include, sandals, flats, and heels, the survivors walk, skit, steel pan, singing, testimony, raffles, food, and music to include a few. The event was well attended and we’ve outgrown our current venue.

November is prematurity awareness month. A premature birth is one that occurs prior to 37 weeks gestation. This is of great importance to us because it stems from our national incentive the March of Dimes. 15 million babies are born prematurely yearly and 1 million succumbs to their death. It is also extremely costly to take care of a premature baby $54,194 in comparison to $4,389 for a healthy baby. It is very important to get the necessary prenatal care to decrease the chances of a premature birth. On November 5, 2016 Nu Chi Zeta wore purple and white at a Prematurity Awareness Service held at St. Patrick’s Church to present the facts as well as precautions to take during and before pregnancy. On November 13, 2016 the chapter took part in a Prematurity Awareness Parade at the Juan Luis Hospital as well as on November 17, 2017 we were in attendance at the Lighting of the hospital in purple.
