Because we only have one planet

SUSTAINABILITY AND RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT ARE AMONG OUR CORE PRINCIPLES.

Hardly anyone knows the wondrous natural beauty of the world like nicko cruises. Because we sail our guests to the most fascinating places on Earth, it is all the more important to protect and preserve these natural wonders for future generations.

For the love of our planet.

Protecting the environment is an ongoing responsibility that we all share. With this in mind, we at nicko cruises have developed a wide range of measures.

These include using biodegradable substances wherever possible, while avoiding waste and disposable products. We have also invested in an innovative, highly effective waste water treatment system that reduces suspended solids to zero without using chemicals. This leads to clarified waste water of bathing water quality – which even meets the strict standards necessary for it to be discharged into the Baltic Sea. We believe that green talk should always be matched by green actions. And we are willing to invest in this. For example in converting to lower-emission fuels and catalytic converters – measures that help us to reduce sulphur oxides by 85% and nitrogen oxides by as much as 95%. This exceeds the standards set by the International Maritime Organization substantially.

The underwater paint used on VASCO DA GAMA is an especially environmentally friendly, long-lasting and robust siliconebased coating that does not release any toxic substances into the sea. This paint also prevents vegetation and deposits from forming on the bottom of the ship – these can increase fuel consumption because of the additional water resistance. We are able to reduce fuel consumption by around six per cent by using this innovative paint.

For today, tomorrow and well beyond.

You can count on that. You can rest assured that we will continue to look for further potential for improving and optimising our environmental performance – today, tomorrow and in the future. So that we will be able to discover the fascinating beauty of the world together for many years to come.
