Here comes the Sun Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess recently marked a momentous construction milestone, with the float out of the ship at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone. Hotel General Manager Simona Stumberger was honoured as the Madrina of Sun, to offer blessings and best wishes for the vessel. “Simona is the ideal candidate to serve as Madrina of our newest ship, Sun Princess, because she embodies all the best qualities that our company has to offer - an unwavering commitment to service, hospitality and friendliness,” Princess President John Padgett said. The float out completes the first comprehensive phase of construction for Sun, with the focus to now shift to building the ship’s interiors. Princess also announced

it has appointed Gennaro Arma as Captain, leading Sun’s shipbuilding operations, readiness, and delivery, and overseeing the ship’s final stages of construction. He will work closely with naval architects, engineers, and shipbuilding experts, as well as the shipyard management team. “Sun Princess will usher in an exciting new era for our company and the industry, and we can’t think of a better person to serve in this important role,” Padgett added. Sun will offer an array of exciting new dining, entertainment and activity offerings, as well as luxurious staterooms across a broad spectrum of categories. The ship will be highlighted by never-before-seen spaces, such as The Dome - a entertainment venue inspired by the terraces of Santorini.

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) is inviting travel advisors to get the latest cruise insights in its new online course, Cruise Dynamics 2023. Providing insight into all the latest trends and developments in the industry, Cruise Dynamics is CLIA’s annual recertification elective, allowing members to renew their credentials with the Association, and maintain their Accredited, Ambassador, or Masters status. Head of Training & Development Peter Kollar said this year’s course will offer facts on important topics such as responsible tourism, industry resilience and more. “Cruise Dynamics is a chance to look to the future and understand why cruising is such a resilient industry,” he said.

Women of the Poles launched PORTHOLE An owl in Florida has lived out a fantasy many of us have thought up, stowing away on a cruise ship for two weeks on a journey to Mexico. The burrowing owl accidentally boarded Royal Caribbean International’s Symphony of the Seas. Throughout the voyage, the owl delighted passengers, as it spent its days at sea resting on railings and peeking through plants. Once the cruise returned to Florida, two unsuccessful attempts were made to capture the fare-evading passenger, before it was forcefully disembarked - in good health, fortunately. The owl had nothing to claim in customs, Florida Fish & Wildlife said.

Ponant has unveiled its Women of the Poles initiative, led by French think tank Le Cercle Polaire. Women of the Poles pays tribute to polar adventurers from all over the world, with the launch seeing Australian extreme endurance cyclist Kate Leeming, together with French mountaineer Laurence de la Ferriere and Finnish photographer Tiina Itkonen, talk about their exploits and vision of women’s polar expeditions on board L’Austral, which is currently sailing the Antarctic. The campaign is a long-term activation, with two other explorers confirmed for L’Austral’s voyage to the Arctic in Aug. The cruise along Greenland’s west coast will welcome two more women explorers, including Reena Dharmshaktu, the first Indian woman to ski from coast of Antarctica to South Pole. There will also be a themed exploration on Le Commandant Charcot in Aug 2024, which will expedition between Svalbard and
