It has been many years since I first tried to learn Spanish. I remember sitting in a high school classroom repeating phrases spoken by our teacher. Mrs. Guarisco was nothing if not enthusiastic, but an hour a day of her trying to elicit more than a few basic words and sentences from her students did not go very far to instill the language in us. Our textbooks were OK, and we even had records to listen to in "language lab." But somehow the Spanish never really "took." I remember that two of the girls in my class got to spend a summer abroad, one in Mexico and the other in Ecuador. They both came back chattering away in Spanish, much to my envy. That experience really made an impression on me. It taught me that you there is nothing like living among Spanish speaking people, even for just a couple of months, for learning the language. Happily, Spanish language learning has changed tremendously since those days. There are plenty of opportunities to get an immersion experience even if you don't have the opportunity to travel to other countries. For starters, there are more groups meeting for informal conversational practice than ever before. You can find them these days in most reasonably large cities and just about every college town. This means your learning isn't confined to one hour per day (or less) in sitting in some stuffy classroom. Even better, technology has thrown open the doors to a multitude of Spanish language learning options. There are DVDs, CDs, mp3 lessons to put on your iPod, and entire courses you can download from the Web. This is a marvelous age in which to learn a second language such as Spanish. Mrs. Guarisco would be astonished. Spanish can be easy to learn. It doesn't matter if you flunked it in high school, or you think you have no aptitude, you can learn to speak Spanish. There are tons of resources for learning Spanish.

Nothing really clicked for me, though, until I discovered the unusual method at http://www.spainliving.com. With this method you can learn to speak Spanish naturally and confidently in as little as 2 months!
