Area 1 has been very busy these past few months! Those of you who follow us on social media can probably attest that we have been posting many updates about upcoming activities. The Area 1 Venturing Leadership Event is on Nov. 13--15, 2015. We will be staying at the Country Inn & Suites in Menomonie, WI. Our conference classes will also be hosted there. There will be classes, food, friends, opportunities to network and brainstorm with other crews, and a fun activity Saturday night. Space is limited, so register early! The registration link and final costs will be coming out within a few weeks. The Area 1 Venturing Fun Event is on Jan. 22--24, 2016. Our theme is Ice Age, so come prepared in your winter gear because most of the fun and games will be outdoors! We will have all kinds of winter activities throughout Friday night and Saturday, including hiking the Ice Age trail. This event will be held at Camp Phillips in Haugen, WI (and yes, we will be staying indoors as opposed to tenting in the snow). We want to see as many people attend this as possible, so mark your calendar now and bring all your friends for a great time shaking off that cabin fever! In other news, Area 1 has a newsletter written for the first time in several years! Ariana Herman, our VP of Communications, has done a wonderful job on it. Keep your eyes peeled for that to come out. She has also made a poster for the Leadership Event and is posting that on social media. Please use this to share with friends, staff, volunteers, or anyone else who may be interested. Finally, we want to quickly give a shoutout to our councils who are hosting great events! Bay--Lakes Council wrapped up their summer with Bayjammers, an awesome weekend that had high turnouts. Bay--Lakes is also hosting a Venturing Girls’ Weekend on Oct. 9--11 that will include favorites like shooting, climbing, and COPE. Sioux Council is also hosting an event on Oct. 9--11 called the Fall Fun Festival. The whole weekend is Halloween themed and will include shooting, silent movies, and a costume contest. Thanks for all that you do, Venturers! If ever you have questions or concerns (or future ARTICLES for our newsletter or publicity!), feel free to reach out to us at crventuring.org. --Rachel Cruse, CR Area 1 Venturing President

Can you name this Central Region camp? (Hint: It is related to the Fall Fun Rally!) Find out the answer in next month’s edition of the Central Point!
Advisor’s Minute Hello Venturers and Advisors! As many of you know, October just happens to be one of my favorite months. With the mix of the cooling weather, leaves changing color, and the frightful fun of Halloween, grab your favorite pumpkin--flavored item and let's start the adventure! September was a great and busy month. Some highlights include getting to see the Northeast Pennsylvania Council VOA in action, seeing our very own Brian Parro report at the Central Region Board Meeting in Omaha, and spending time with 1200 of our best Scouting friends at the legendary Fall Fun Rally in St. Louis! Once again, it is easy to see that Venturing is very much alive and well!
This month, I want you to take a few moments to reflect on your Venturing and Scouting careers. Do you remember who encouraged you to continue on your journey? Do you remember who inspired you to excel and rise to your current role? Maybe it was another youth, or an officer? Was it an adult advisor or professional? Was it a family member or friend? Take a moment and reflect back on that experience. Here's my challenge for the month. Help be that change you experienced, and help positively influence another Venturer or Adult to take that next step. I am happy to report so many of the positive feedback and comments I have received on so many of our Central Region team. I want to thank you for all the work you are doing, and continue to do! As we are not only members of the Venturing family, but members of the Scouting family overall! Because of you, our image is a very bright and green one! So, as I close this article for the month, there is only one question left to ask: "What's your favorite scary movie?" Because while adventure can be climbing the side of a mountain or hiking that long and winding trail, it can also be exploring the unknown corners of your mind during a frightening movie or TV show. Here's to a spooky and safe October!

President’s Corner Hey Central Region! Isn’t this a great time of year? The leaves are just beginning to change colors, the temperatures are cooling, and we are entering the countdown to Halloween! In the past, I’ve talked a lot about recruiting and retention for Venturing, but this month, I want us to focus on service. Service is one of the pillars of the ALPS program model for Venturing, and thus is vital to who we are as Venturers, and it is an integral part to who we are as Scouts. Messengers of Peace is an international program of the World Organization of the Scouting Movement (WOSM) that is all about service that leads to peace. It was founded in 2011 and is meant to inspire youth to want to work towards creating a better world. One of the cool parts of Messengers of Peace is that you can share the service projects you are doing online, and see what other people around the world are doing too. Through this program, we can see how Scouts are able to make a difference in their communities, all over the world. Plus, if you complete the Messengers of Peace requirements, you can wear a special patch on your Venturing uniform. Check out more information at http://www.scouting.org/Home/International/messengersofpeace/ FactSheet.aspx
Whether you are serving others or serving the Earth, I encourage you to share it with Messengers of Peace. Youth can have an enormous impact, and I challenge everyone to use the month of October to find new ways to serve. Whether it is something big or small, service makes a difference just like a pebble in the water. Your service will inspire others to serve, which will make the world a better place. After all, that’s why WOSM’s motto is Creating a Better World.
Yours in Service,
