“What is CSA?” As I walk through the grocery store’s produce aisle (yes, I too am forced there in the winter), I think back to the summer months when we’re eating right off the farm - from our fields to our table! Our fruits and vegetables have not taken an airplane flight, or a long truck ride… not even a change of zip code! Our produce is just picked, fresh, healthy and delicious! We eat what our farm is producing. Three years ago we started offering our customers an opportunity to eat from our fields to their table, to eat what our farm is currently producing, to purchase a share in our farm. We offer a CSA, which stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Weekly, from mid-June to mid-September those who purchased a Summer Vegetable CSA share, pick up from Kristy’s Barn a basket filled with whatever is being harvested that week. Variety and quantity varies in the basket each week as different crops ripen and different plantings are picked. Via the nature of a CSA, our shareholders are sharing our farming risk. An example of this is last year was an extremely dry summer. Ken made the decision to irrigate other produce

L to R: 3 Generations - Jay Reilly, JJ Reilly and Paul Mahar “It’s so hard to find a good mechanic you can trust”, said a customer in the waiting area. The woman had been taken advantage of with a car repair she had the week before at another repair shop in Clifton Park. If you could see the cob job that had been done to her car and the price she paid, you would be appalled and disheartened as she was. As consumers, we are at the mercy of whomever we bring our vehicles to for repair. I find this especially true as a woman. Nestled on Old Miller Rd. in East Greenbush you will find a family of mechanics that you can trust. Three generations of Reilly’s work together, Jay (referred to as Sr.), JJ (his son), who are both ASE Certified, and Paul Mahar (Jay’s grandson). In the front office/waiting room you will meet Pat Reilly (Jay’s wife) who has more knowledge of automobiles than most trained mechanics. J&J Reilly Automotive was founded in 2004. The business has grown and grown since then, as the word spread that the work

performed there is of the highest quality, they never do unnecessary repairs and is a place you can bring your vehicle with confidence that you will not be ripped off. It’s worth shopping around for pricing when having work done on your vehicle. With more and more chain shops moving into the area, it’s easier to end up spending way more than you need to. J&J Reilly Automotive offers the best pricing in town for exhaust systems, tune-ups, suspension, brakes, oil changes, detailing, free diagnostics, replacement or rebuilt transmissions and engines. All their work is guaranteed and they will beat any competitor’s price. They also offer free coolant and battery testing. They not only do repairs, they can help you protect your vehicle with reasonably priced expert detailing. If you are in need of front brake pads you are “in luck”. The luck ‘o the Irish that is! On Friday, March 15th only, the Reilly’s are offering front brake pads (including labor and parts) for only $77.77!! If you take advantage of the brake special, you can also have a synthetic blend oil change and filter for only $17.77!! Please make an appointment by calling 729-2263.

AP BOARD OF EDUCATION UPDATE Dear Averill Park Community Members: We have begun the task of creating a budget for 2013-2014 school year. Several difficult decisions will need to be made and we will hold public meetings to ask for your participation and feedback. Our first public session will be held on Wednesday, March 27th. More information will be provided on starting time and location as we get closer to the date. At the February 26th meeting of the Board of Education, we reviewed the Elementary and Special Education budgets. There was also a presentation by the AP 2020 committee who shared with us the results of their visioning exercise. We cannot thank them enough for their assistance and look forward to continuing the momentum. Our next step will be to approve their recommendations and create an operating plan that will assist the district with mapping out our long term viability. Dr. Hoffman and Chris Foster met on February 28th with Senator John Flanagan, who serves as the chair of the New York State Senate Education committee. They covered specific areas where the Senate could assist the district with long term solutions and it was a very productive discussion. Senator Flanagan has been touring around the state and hearing similar stories from other school districts and was very empathetic to our fiscal situation. We would also like to share budget information in more informal settings across the district. If you are willing to host us in your home with friends and neighbors, or if you are a local organization that would be interested, please contact Dr. Hoffman at 674-7066 to schedule a meeting. Our next meeting is on March 12th. We will review the Middle School and High School budgets, as well as hear suggestions for a potential capital plan for building and technology improvements. If approved by the board, that would go before the voters, along with the school budget, on May 21st. Please visit the district website at: http:// www.averillpark.k12.ny.us/ and “like” us on Facebook for information and other current happenings. ~ Sincerely, Superintendent Hoffman and the Board of Education

On February 16, 2013, in celebration of Love Your Library month, more than 50 Poestenkill Library lovers bundled up and gathered outside to ‘hug’ the library. After some photographs were taken to document this brief but fun event everyone hustled inside for hot cocoa and delicious heart-shaped cookies and chocolates. It was fun to hear people discuss what it was about the Poestenkill Library that had them standing in the cold, holding hands with each other, to give the Library a hug. Poestenkill Library is the ‘heart’ of the community according to one admirer. People of all ages are welcome. We have wi-fi (in and around the building), inter-library loan from the 28 other libraries of the Upper Hudson System, a great collection of books on CD and much more. Please come visit us soon! We can be reached at 283-3721 or visit our website at www.poestenkilllibrary.org.

STOP SMOKING TODAY With one 20 minute session of painless, cold laser therapy. Less anxiety issues or weight gain! Very affordable, one-time fee.

FREE(If BOOSTER ! Needed) Flex spending reimburses for this treatment. On Thursday, February 14, 2013, I had the privilege of attending a Town Hall event “Go Red for Women”. Together, Stephen, our Director of Community and Recreational Services and Meaghan, our Director of Finance, planned a fundraiser and pot luck lunch for Town Hall employees. With a goal of $150, we hit our mark and surpassed it, raising $160. It is heartwarming to see a large group of people coming together for such an important cause. For those who aren’t familiar with the Go Red for Women movement, it was started back in 2004, when Heart Disease was discovered to be the number one killer of women. Since its start 10 years ago, Go Red for Women has helped the American Heart Association to raise awareness among women and reduce the number of women dying from heart disease by 23%. I would like to take a moment to thank all of those who came out and those who donated helping us to surpass our goal! ~ Keith Langley, Town of East Greenbush Supervisor

CLOWN COMMUNIONSUPPER Mark your calendar now, so you don’t miss this very special event at First United Methodist Church, 1 Gilligan Road, E. Greenbush on March 10th from 5PM to 7PM. We’ve invited Pastor Steve Butler of McKownville UMC to share Clown Communion with our whole church family, young, old and everyone in between. He will be here to give us a better understanding of the role of clown ministry in the church. Church clowns do ministry without speaking. They tell a story by action, another way of reaching people. Remember many stain glass windows of hundreds of years ago told a story in pictures because a great number of people could not read. If you have never been a part of such a service, don’t miss your chance to see and participate. The program will begin at 5:00 PM with our pot-luck supper following at 6:00 PM. Please bring a dish to share. Call 4779693 if you have any questions. www.gbgm-umc.org/egumc

WORSE THAN MARXISM Letter to the Editor: Last week I wrote about the school budget rally at Columbia HS and the very entertaining presentation by Dr. Timbs. The theme of the evening was perceived state funding inequities and proposed solutions. Dr. Timbs was advocating an equitable and sufficient distribution of state funds. To paraphrase: From each according to ability, to each according to need. Aside from Karl Marx, it occurred to me that I’d heard this argument before. This was the same argument used by the Campaign for Fiscal Equity and other such “adequacy” lawsuits initiated by school districts against their respective states all across the country over a decade ago. In New York it was the New York City school districts that sued to make the rest of the state responsible for giving them enough money to provide the “sound basic education” required by our Constitution. During those years of CFE court proceedings, I recall the rhetoric for Big Apple solidarity emanating from our upstate public school administrators. They didn’t seem to realize that if the CFE lawsuit was successful, we would see a lot of our state funding redirected to NYC. To me it seemed counterproductive to support the party that was suing us. Ultimately, the CFE won $billions for NYC that the rest of NY had to come up with. Is it any wonder why we don’t have adequate state funding now? By-the-way, education is not a constitutional right, just as health insurance isn’t. Our creator didn’t endow us with budgets, and the government can’t tax one citizen in order to provide free speech to another. While we’re having this dialog about equity, I want to remind our short-sighted public school administrators that the “equity” most important to taxpayers is the equity in our homes. Many of us have lost all the equity in our homes to property taxes. The wealthier people of our school districts who could pay higher taxes voted for spending that the rest of the community couldn’t afford. It’s far worse than Marxism. We have taken from those with the most need at the behest of those with the most ability. ~ David Crawmer, www.republicamerica.us

RESEARCH YOUR BROKER AS YOU WOULD A STOCK (NAPSI)—Investing some time and effort in researching your stockbroker—just as you would if he or she were a security— can pay dividends. That’s the word from experts who say before working with a broker or other financial professional, make sure that person is licensed to sell you an investment. One way to do this is by using a free online tool from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) called BrokerCheck. Firms and IndividualsTo use the online tool, go to www.finra.org/ brokercheck. You can look up a specific firm or investment professional. You can also search by zip code. When researching individuals, the tool can be used to find:• employment history;• approved licenses, registrations, and qualification exams passed;• certain misdemeanor charges and convictions; and• Disciplinary actions and sanctions imposed by FINRA, the SEC or other regulators. When researching a firm, the tool can be used to find:• its address, legal status and types of business it engages in;• a 10-year history of all felony charges and convictions, and certain misdemeanor charges and convictions;• disciplinary actions and proceedings initiated by regulators; and• Bankruptcy proceedings and arbitration award information.Even if an individual or firm does not have a history of reported problems, the tool can help detect potential red flags. For example, you can see if an individual broker has switched firms frequently over a short period of time, or if the firm has changed its name often. The First Step”The first step any investor should take before he or she does business is to use BrokerCheck to do a background search,” said Gerri Walsh, president of FINRA Investor Education Foundation. “Make sure the investment professional is licensed either with FINRA as a registered representative or with the SEC or a state regulator as a registered investment adviser.” It’s also a good idea to check with your state securities regulator, local consumer groups or others who have business relationships with a particular financial professional. FINRA is the largest independent regulator for all securities firms doing business in the United States. For more resources, visit www.finra.org/investors.

Greetings and best wishes to everyone in the City of Rensselaer. As Rensselaer’s representative to the County Legislature, I am happy to report to you on the actions taken by the Rensselaer County Legislature at our February 12, 2013 legislative meeting. To protect taxpayers, and to ensure those who need service receive assistance, the Legislature requested a state review of chronic callers, persons who repeatedly call for ambulance service for non-emergency issues. There have been reports of persons improperly accessing ambulance transports numerous times, with each trip carrying significant costs. Legislators also joined to select Kelly Hoffman of North Greenbush to fill a vacant position in District 2, which includes the towns of North Greenbush, East Greenbush and Poestenkill. Kelly currently serves as a member of the North Greenbush Town Board. We were also excited to congratulate the East Greenbush Blue Devils Pop Warner Football team upon a championship season. The team captured the 2012 Capital District Pop Warner championship with a victory over Columbia County. The team included players from Rensselaer, and congratulations to the players, coaches and fans. Members of the County Legislature voted to support the Second Amendment and oppose the NY Safe Act. The legislative meeting was packed as dozens of residents attended to voice their feelings regarding the NY Safe Act. A number of speakers spoke in favor of the county’s resolution opposing the state action and the county resolution was adopted easily. The Rensselaer Area Senior Center is a great resource for our seniors, and I was proud to fight to keep the center open when closure was discussed. Some seniors brought to my attention problems with meals served at the center, and I quickly brought those concerns to county officials. I am told the situation is improving, but ask seniors to please keep me informed. Attendance is up at the center, and funding for the center is solid for the coming months. Spring is coming and that means another year of Rensselaer Little League. Registration and clinics will be held every Saturday in March at the Boys and Girls Club from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The next meeting of the Rensselaer County Legislature is Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Residents are welcome to contact me at the legislative offices by writing to the Rensselaer County Legislature, 1600 7th Avenue, Troy NY 12180 or by e-mailing us via the official legislative website at www.rensselaercounty.org.

athlete OF THE WEEK ANDREW TARIO ~SCHOLAR ATHLETE~ by: Lauren Navratil

by Claire Everett This week marked the end of a personal era. It represents the last days that I will ever play an Averill Park sport; pretty darn scary. On Tuesday, February 26th, the basketball Lady Warriors traveled to the Colonie gym to challenge Holy Names in the Section 2 Semi Finals. The ladies knew that it was going to be a tough game and had prepared all season for the battle they knew was coming, and come it did. The Averill Park versus Holy Names game was fought until the closing seconds, at which time Holy Names hit a buzzer beater to win the fierce competition. Averill Park girl’s season ended at that moment. The ladies lost 47-45. A great last game was played by Lauren Van Roy, who scored 14 points, and Kelly Donnelly who scored 10 points and was named an MVP of the Sectional Tournament. Great season ladies and good luck to all the seniors in their future endeavors. Although I am not contributing to AP athletics anymore, many Warriors are still hard at work. The Section 2 Indoor Track State Qualifiers meet took place this week. Amy Loveridge, a sophomore, was sent by Averill Park to compete in the Girls Shot Put. Congratulations on the honor Amy! On the boy’s side, the Indoor Track team had multiple outstanding performances. Wesley Clayton took 5th in the 300 Meter Dash, Andrew Tario placed 2nd in the 3200 Meter Run, Drew Ryan took home 7th place in Boys Pole Vault, Mike Hayes won 8th in the Boys Triple Jump, and in the Boys Shot Put, Jon Rodgers placed 11th . Congratulations to all of the Warriors who represented Averill Park in the State Qualifiers! A handful of the winter athletes will continue to compete, but for the most part Averill Park has turned its focus to the spring sports. I will keep you all posted on the development of the new season. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me at claireeverett11@gmail.com.

For many athletes, joining track just seemed like a fun way to hang out with friends while also staying in shape. What they didn’t realize is just how quickly they could fall in love with the sport and how easily it could become a major part of their lives. This was the exact case for long distance runner Andrew Tario, who began running track as a freshman. He originally joined the team because of his close friend Chris Shaw, a previous athlete of the week, who talked him into it. Andrew has come a long way since then and he is now one of the top long distance runners for Averill Park. Tario is a phenomenal representative of what a Scholar Athlete is. He believes that academics take precedence over athletics, but being a scholar athlete gives you the ability to juggle both of them. Andrew finds a way to balance his time and effort between becoming a better athlete and maintaining outstanding grades and a GPA of 94. This year he is taking challenging classes which include Advanced Placement English, Advanced Placement Government, Calculus and Physics. “English is my favorite class. I like the amount of freedom we’re given to be creative with our work,” says Tario. In the fall, he will be attending Iona College to study Psychology. While he is there, Andrew will be running for both their track and cross country teams. Tario’s favorite part about running is getting to travel all around to different meets and meeting new people that he otherwise wouldn’t have known. Andrew claims that races can be very nerve-wracking but he tries to focus and not get too worked up about it, because in the end, he knows exactly what to do. During the cross country and track seasons, Andrew practices fives days a week and usually runs on his own time over the weekend. This can add up to be a bit much, which is why he takes a few weeks off in between seasons to rest up. When he can find some spare time, Tario likes to kick back and relax with his friends. His family and friends have all been very supportive in his endeavors over the years, and he would like to thank them for that. Andrew would also like to extend his gratitude toward all of his teachers who have been huge inspirations and helped him to grow as a person. We wish Andrew and the rest of the Averill Park Outdoor Track members the best of luck as their season begins!

DEC ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR PHEASANT RELEASE PROGRAM Applications Due by March 15 The opening of the application period for its cooperative DayOld Pheasant Chick Program to enhance opportunities for pheasant hunting in New York has begun, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced. The program provides pheasant hunting opportunities through a partnership amongst DEC, sportsmen and sportswomen, 4-H youth, and landowners who are interested in rearing and releasing pheasants. The Day-Old Pheasant Chick Program began in the early 1900s. In the early days, pheasant eggs and chicks were distributed to farmers and rural youth. Today, day-old chicks are available at no cost to participants who are able to provide a brooding facility, a covered outdoor rearing pen, and an adequate release site. Approved applicants will receive the day-old chicks in April, May, or June. No chicks obtained through the Day-Old Pheasant Chick Program can be released on private shooting preserves and all release sites must be approved in advance by DEC and must be open for public pheasant hunting opportunities. The program is funded through the State Conservation Fund from license fees paid by hunters, trappers, and anglers. Daily care is necessary to monitor the health of the birds and to ensure there is adequate feed and water for the rapidly growing chicks. The pheasants may be released beginning when they are eight weeks old and no later than Dec. 1. Individuals interested in these programs should contact their nearest DEC regional office (please refer to offices listed below) for applications and additional information. In 2012, DEC distributed 42,408 day-old pheasant chicks to qualified 4-H and sportsmen applicants. Applications must be filed with a DEC regional wildlife manager by March 15, 2013 – see contact information below. purrfect kitty of the month I’m Holly, an 8 year old female brown tiger kitty. I was abandoned by my family when they moved and temporarily taken in by a nice woman. However, due to her landlord’s rules, I couldn’t stay and was brought to the rescue group. It was a difficult adjustment for me, but I’m hopeful I am given the chance to adjust again this time to a forever home! I’m a very lovable, gentle kitty and I’ll thrive on your attention. I want to cuddle, purr, and sit on your lap. I like my scratching post, especially if it’s been rubbed with a little catnip! I can get along with another cat, but I could also be a single pet. Most of all I want to find a person or family to call my own, a forever home for me, the happy kitty! Like all Purrfect Companion kitties, Holly is up-to-date on routine shots, house trained and spayed. For more information on Holly, please contact Maryann at 3312221 or at kitties.purrfectcompanions@yahoo.com. Purrfect Companions is a non-profit, all volunteer rescue organization. We are always looking for good volunteers to help with the kitties or assist at our adoption clinics. If you’d like to donate a little time to these worthy animals, please give us a call at 463-8709. Our adoption clinics are held 12:30-4:00 most Saturdays and Sundays at Petco, Northway Mall, Albany NY. Stop by and see some of our other kitties! We know we have one that is just “PURRFECT” for you!

JAKE WICKS JOINS NY NATIONAL GUARD/ FOLLOWS IN FATHERS FOOTSTEPS Jake Wicks from West Sand Lake, NY is literally following in his father’s footsteps. On Friday, Feb 25, the 19-year old Wicks enlisted in the New York Army National Guard. He is now the newest member of the 2nd Battalion 108th Infantry, the same unit his father, Command Sergeant Major Frank Wicks helped lead in Iraq in 2004. “It’s an honor to follow in my dad’s footsteps and be with this unit, but I’m also looking to make a name for myself by supporting the unit the best I can,” Jake said. The senior Wicks deployed to the Sunni Triangle as the Battalions top Noncommissioned Officer. As Command Sgt. Major, he provided advice to the commander of the 800-Soldier battalion. The unit conducted combat and stability operations as part of the 1st Infantry Division. “I’m very proud to see my son joining ‘the Family Business’. We have a long history of Soldiers serving their country in the Army National Guard,” Frank Wicks said. The Wicks’ can track their family’s long history of service back to the Civil War, when Jake Wicks’ grandfather’s grandfather served in the Massachusetts Volunteers in Louisiana. His Great Grandfather served in France during World War One and his great uncle, a Silver Star recipient was killed in action in New Guinea during World War Two, both serving in the National Guard. His grandfather also served in the Army during World War Two. Jake makes the third Wicks currently serving in the New York Army National Guard. His cousin Staff Sgt. Mike Wicks serves in the New York Army National Guard’s Joint Force Headquarters. “It’s in my family,” said Jake, adding “this is the right time in my life for me to serve also.” Jake’s oath of enlistment was administered at the Military Entrance Processing Station in Albany by Brig. General Ray Shields, Director of Joint Staff for the New York National Guard. “I am very pleased to see a young man with a strong desire to serve achieve his goal of enlisting. I look forward to serving with Private First Class Jake Wicks,” his father said.

In God We Trust

When NYC Owned the World Series by Ronald Berti I used to be quite a baseball fan growing up in New York. We had three teams: Yankees; Brooklyn Dodgers; Giants. I was a Giant fan. We had three great centerfielders: Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle and the “DOOK”. (To put that into English: Edwin “Duke” Snider.) I still say that Willie was the best ball player I ever saw! It seemed like the World Series was owned by New York City teams. 1947-Brooklyn signs Jackie Robinson and breaks the color line in Baseball. In spite of the Robinson’s best efforts, the Yankees defeat the Dodgers in the World Series.1948-Cleveland plays the Boston Braves. What? No New York Team? 1949-Yankees win World Series over Brooklyn. 1950-Yankees win second Series in a row by beating the Philadelphia “Whiz Kids”. 1951-Yankees defeat the Miracle Giants who come back from 13½ games out in August, catch the Dodgers and win a thrilling 3 game playoff when Bobby Thomson hits “The Shot Heard ‘Round the World” in the ninth inning of the third game to overcome a Brooklyn 3 run lead. 1952-Not slowed by the retirement of Joe DiMaggio, Yankees win the Series again over the Dodgers. Cry goes up in Brooklyn-”Wait until next year!” 1953-Yankees win their fifth Series in a row. Their fourth in 7 years over Brooklyn. Next yeat never looked so bad. 1954-The World Series. Polo Grounds. Cleveland Indians vs. the Giants. Cleveland won 111 games in a 154 game season. The Indians had two 20 Game winners and the AL Batting champ. The Giants? They had Willie Mays and 24 other guys. First game Willie makes an unbelievable catch 475 feet from home plate with two on and no one out to ignite his team who go on to win 4 straight. Lamar “Dusty” Rhodes hits 3 pinch hit Home Runs for the Giants. 1955-Next year arrives. Brooklyn’s “Boys of Summer” win their only World Series when Johnny Podres pitches a shutout in Game 7 against the Yankees. “Dem Bums” are finally World Champions. 1956-Yankees get revenge on the Dodgers when Don Larsen pitches the only perfect game in World Series history. 1957-After the Yankees lose the Series to Henry Aaron and the Milwaukee Braves, the Giants and the Dodgers leave NY for the sunny climes of California. We became starved for NL baseball from 1958 to 1962. Some of us diehard fans would go to bed with a “Rube Goldberg” contraption that included a metal encased radio speaker you could buy at Radio Shack and put under your pillow and listen to re-creations of Giant and Dodger night games from California that would start at 11:30 PM EST. We were desperate. That is why when the 1962 Mets lost 120 games it didn’t matter. Twice a year we could still see Willie and the “Dook” Ronald can be reached at:RBerti@nycap.rr.com BY

WHY DIETS ARE FAILING US If you are reading this article, chances are that you or someone you know has been on 1 or 2 diets in their lifetime. DIETS DON’T WORK How many diets can you name? Why is it that almost every week we can see a new diet or weight loss technique on the cover of a magazine? It seems as if everyone is waiting for the “miracle diet”. DIETS DON’T WORK More than 2/3 of Americans are overweight, 34% obese, and that includes our children! (We are the most overweight, obese nation in the world!). It is estimated that 60 chronic diseases and conditions are believed to be related to this epidemic— heart disease, cancers, Type 2 Diabetes, fibromyalgia, poor sleep, lack of energy, etc. Yet, it is estimated that people spend $186 million per day on diet-related products with a 98% failure rate. DIETS DON’T WORK All diets involve calorie restriction which is deprivation; the body needs nutritional abundance. And while exercise supports overall health and wellness, it is not the complete answer. There is a missing component which addresses the root cause of weight gain and poor health. On Sunday, March 10th, at 1 pm, come hear about a one-of-a-kind, revolutionary, nutritional technology that addresses the root cause. This safe, health building technology has changed hundreds of thousands of lives globally—real people with real results, real stories, real pictures, real third-party scientific studies and evidence to support claims. THIS IS NOT A DIET If you are serious about losing unwanted body fat, want better health, and want more energy, you definitely want to be there. The free presentation will be held at St. Timothy’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Winter St. Ext., North Greenbush, March 10th at 1pm. Presenters will be Lori Morelli, a registered nurse for 35 years and an expert coach in nutrition and wellness, and Ruth Getbehead, a nutritional cleanse coach. There will be NO sales at this event. A free body composition analysis will be available—a great way to determine your internal health. For questions or for more information, contact Ruth at 283-2502. ~ Submitted by Ruth Getbehead Editors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinion or endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and for all intents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity of its contents.

477-6555 HE LOVES EVEN THE LOST On the Fourth Sunday in Lent, March 10, 2013, the Nassau and Stuyvesant Reformed Churches will devote worship to Luke 15:1 -3, 11-32, the story of the lost son, a young man who demands his inheritance before his father’s death and then returns home after spending all he had. The older brother, who stayed at home to manage the animals and harvest, objected to his father’s forgiveness and welcoming home of the younger brother. Even so, the father was forgiving and welcoming of the younger brother’s return, for the father had love for them both. In the sermon titled, “He Loves Even the Lost,” the Reverend Edward L. Van Kampen will illustrate how our Father in Heaven accepts repented sinners, those who have strayed from him, wholeheartedly. The Stuyvesant Reformed Church begins worship at 9 a.m. at the intersection of Route 9J and Church St., in the hamlet of Stuyvesant. The Nassau Reformed Church begins worship at 11 a.m. in its chapel on the second level of its Church-School-Building, 43 Church Street (Route 20).
