Bulletin Board Call for Competitors LATHAM – The 12th Frederic Chopin Piano Competition will be held on September 28. We invite area piano students ages 6 to 21 to participate. The annual event, held at Blessed Virgin Mary of Czestochowa Church, 250 Old Maxwell Road in Latham, allows area students and teachers to showcase their piano skill, judged by panel of accomplished musicians. Deadline for registration is August 17, 2013; limited to first ten applicants in each category. The registration fee $35, non-refundable. Advocacy and Hearing Loss – How to Get What You Need

LOUDONVILLE – Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Northeastern York will host the 5k Run and Kids Fun Run on September 28 at The Crossings, 580 Albany Shaker Road in Loudonville. COLONIE – If you are a deaf or hearing-impaired individual, a parent or relative of a deaf or hearingimpaired person, you know how frustrating it is to try to get the necessary services and accommodations. On March 14, from 6-7:30pm the Colonie, Hearing Loss Association of Albany will sponsor a panel to share information about smoothing this process and getting the services you desire, including issues of communication, accessibility, assistive devices and sign language interpreters needed in everyday life. Art League Exhibit at the Pruyn House COLONIE – The Colonie Art League and the Friends of Pruyn House are co-sponsoring an art exhibit at Pruyn House, 207 Old Niskayuna Road, Latham from April 5 through April 29 Monday through Friday from 9am4pm. This is a juried show featuring selected paintings by members of the Colonie Art League. Many paintings are for sale. Admission is Free. (P)

Sen. Marchione Welcomes NYS Dairy Princess Courtney Luskin CAPITAL DISTRICT – New York State Senator Kathleen A. Marchione (R,C-Halfmoon) recently welcomed the 2013-2014 New York State Dairy Princess Courtney Luskin to the State Capitol and honored her achievements with an official resolution passed during yesterday’s Session. Bulletin Board High School and also is an active member of 4-H and the National Honor Society. On February 19, she was crowned the 50th NYS Dairy Princess at the annual coronation in Syracuse. Having served as the Rensselaer County Dairy Princess since the Spring of 2012, Ms. Luskin will devote an additional year promoting New York’s award-winning milk and other dairy products with the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council, Inc. Clearwater TU Flea Market ALBANY – The Clearwater Trout Unlimited Flea Market will be held on March 23 from 9am-1pm at its New Location at the Albany Ramada Plaza Hotel, 3 Watervliet Ave. Ext., Albany. Set up time for vendors will be 8am. The flea market is a great place to both sell excess gear and tying material, books, and any other items you want to clear out, or to buy these items at a bargain price. Trout Unlimited Monthly Meeting ALBANY – Clearwater Chapter of Trout Unlimited will hold its April meeting on the April 15 at 7:30pm at its New Location at the Albany Ramada Plaza Hotel, 3 Watervliet Ave. Ext., Albany. Guest speaker will be Evan Botcher from the Hungry Trout Fly Shop with a presentation on fishing the Ausable River and surrounding area. A guest fly tier will also start at 6:30pm. Pruyn House Speaker LATHAM – Erika Sanger, Director of Education at the Albany Institute of History and Art, will discuss the diplomatic mission and exploration of Japanese culture by Robert Hewson Pruyn. Pruyn was appointed Minister by Abraham Lincoln in 1861. Pruyn’s private papers include detailed and descriptive correspondence between Pruyn and his wife, other family members, and business associates. Sanger will share images of some of the photographs and ephemera Pruyn collected and read excerpts from the letters.

Rare Historic Colonial Maps Exhibit COLONIE – The Historical Society of the Town of Colonie and the Albany County Historical Association cordially invite you to view a Rare Historic Colonial Maps Exhibit on display from March 21 through May 5 simultaneously at the Pruyn House, 207 Old Niskayuna Rd., Latham, Mon.-Fri. from 9am-4pm and King’s Place, 27 North Swan Street, Albany on Wednesdays 12-1:30pm and Saturdays 1-3pm. Admission is free. The exhibit features high-resolution digital manuscript copies of old colonial maps, usually extremely difficult to access, and many of which are extremely rare and fragile. The maps are from the personal collection of Randy Patten and provide a look into colonial American history. Opening receptions are scheduled for Thurs., March 21 from 5-7pm at King’s Place and Saturday, April 6, 2pm, at the Pruyn House. Cabin Fever Fundraiser WATERVLIET – Cabin Fever Fundraiser at Schuyler Heights Fire Company, 900 First Street in Watervliet on Saturday, March 30 from 7-11pm. “Hello to Spring” Craft Fair LATHAM – Little Sisters of the Poor will hold their annual “Hello to Spring” Craft Fair on Sat., March 23 from 10am-4pm at Our Lady of Hope Residence, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane (off Old Loudon Rd.), Latham. The event will include many unique and handcrafted items on display by local crafters and vendors, a bake sale and raffles. Lunch and other refreshments will also be available for purchase.
