Health Fair CAPITAL REGION – Taking Control of Our Health is the theme of the PEF Region 8 Women’s Program’s fifth annual health fair. The health fair, which is free and open to the public, will feature workshops on healthy living, chiropractic care, cancer care, information from the American Heart Association, and Zumba instructions. There will also be a raffle and vendor giveaways. The event is being held Saturday, March 2, from 9am-1pm at the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) headquarters at 800 Troy-Schenectady Road in Latham, where there is ample parking. There is a healthy lunch option for $10, if you plan to attend, please make a reservation by calling Andrea Coton at (518) 785-1900 x228 by February 27. Checks made payable to PEF. (P)

K of C All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast LATHAM – The Knights of Columbus, 328 Troy Schenectady Rd., Latham, will host an All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast on Sun., March 10 from 8:30-11:30am. Breakfast menu includes: juice, coffee, tea or hot chocolate, fruit cup, scrambled eggs, pancakes and hot syrup, French toast, home fries, corned beef hash, bacon and sausage, cereal and banana, assorted breads and Danish, and an omelet station. Columbiettes February Meeting Rescheduled LATHAM – The February meeting of the Capital District Chapter Columbiettes has been rescheduled to Sunday, February 24 at 12 noon at the Latham Colonie Council Knights of Columbus, 328 Troy Schenectady Road, Latham. Gene Nachamkin, Ph.D., to Receive “Flame of Hope Award” ALBANY/NISKAYUNA – The Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York (EFNENY) will present its prestigious “Flame of Hope Award” to Gene Nachamkin, Ph.D. at the group’s 25th Anniversary Confections in Chocolate fundraising gala March 9 in Albany. The “Flame of Hope Award” is presented each year to recognize outstanding contributions to the organization by an individual or business. Dr. Nachamkin, a resident of Niskayuna in Schenectady County, has been an active member of EFNENY’s board of directors and served as president of the organization from 2007 to 2011. Under his leadership the organization achieved national “Standards of Excellence”, opened a satellite office in the Upper Hudson Valley and launched a “Care and Cure Fund” to raise funds for epilepsy research. He was recently elected to the Epilepsy Foundation National Board of Directors and serves on four committees of that organization. Dr. Nachamkin has more than 40 years of experience in the healthcare field and remains deeply involved in fundraising and increasing public awareness of epilepsy on the state and national levels. Paul Grondahl to Present Program at New Scotland Historical Assoc. NEW SALEM – Mayor Corning, Albany Icon, Albany Enigma will be the program presented by Paul Grondahl at the New Scotland Historical Association, Wyman Osterhout Community Center, New Salem, on Tues., March 5, 7:30pm. 6th Annual Celtic Jam CAPITAL REGION – The Scotia-Glenville Pipe Band is proud to announce their Sixth Annual Celtic Jam at 7pm on Friday, March 8, in the Scotia-Glenville High School Auditorium, Scotia. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the Capital Region’s very own world-class, awardwinning youth pipe band. Admission is “Pay What You Can” with all proceeds benefiting the ScotiaGlenville Pipe Band programs. Last August, the Pipe Band placed first in their division at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded in 1989 as an enhancement to the Scotia-Glenville School District’s Scottish heritage, the Scotia-Glenville Pipe Band has evolved and become a private nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization. The band’s mission is to teach and develop youth pipers and drummers to achieve excellence in competition and performance through the pipe band idiom. Promoting the values of dedication, hard work, and commitment to a musical team are priorities with the goal of becoming a first-rate competitive band.
