FREE CONCERT RESCHEDULED Michael Jerling's rescheduled performance will be held on Friday, February 22 from 7-9 p.m. at the Town Hall in Stony Creek. Jerling is a singer/songwriter who holds the distinction of having been among the winners of the prestigious "New Folk" competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas. He displays his first-rate lyrical sense and impressive musicianship borrowing from blues, rock, country and R&B. His baritone voice is accompanied by the upright bass, played by Tony Markellis and the ancient reed organ, played by Teresina Huxtable. This concert is sponsored by the Stony Creek Free Library and is the second of four scheduled concerts in a winter concert series. Refreshments will be available. The Stony Creek Free Library is a community-oriented organization, dedicated to building healthy minds and spirits by providing opportunities for community members to enjoy their lives and one another. UPDATE ON THE CASTLE PARK SCHOOL/COMMUNITY PLAYGROUND REBUILD We have had the community meeting and been at a couple of the schoolĘźs open houses, with power points, posters and the blueprints, so people could as questions and be informed of our every step. Many articles have been in the Pennysaver/News, on the internet and Facebook. We have held and hosted many events and have tried to keep everyone informed as informed as possible. At this point the capt. project is in the stateĘźs hands, waiting for the last stamp of approval, then the jobs will be put out to bid. Before we start our project there are prior construction, plumbing and elec. things to be done on site before we can start. We are looking at a possible end of summer build, as it stands now. We are very excited for our community, we all have had to be patient. We understand the process from beginning to end has taken longer than any of us wanted. We need masons, construction people, people to make and donate food and much, much more. Phone calls will be going out and hopefully coming in! Our last two big fundraising events are... Buy A Brick, for $50.00 you can purchase a brick to honor a family member, business favorite saying, etc. YouĘźre allowed 3 lines with 17 characters per line. They can be mailed to the elementary school, we have a mailbox there. If you have sent a check, a letter will be coming to you confirming your purchase. Checks need to be made out to Castle Park playground. Donna Blair is heading this up. If you have any questions please call her at 654-6100. There was some confusion with the computer order process that we were using. Sorry for any delay or misunderstanding. Then our Donkey Basketball game, what a positive event we had last year. As many of you know, this was started years ago by George Spieldenner. Many schools in and out of New York state have done them for over 20 years, a great way to bring the community together. The children all loved petting and riding the donkeys at half time. The Green Mountain Donkeyball staff are fantastic people with a great love for their animals and run a professional business. We hope to have a another great event with our community on March 15th! I have to extend my sincere apology to any senior students last year who felt left out of our donkeyball game. I did my best to contact all students if interested in participating, I m ay unintentionally missed someone. My phone number is posted everywhere, and most know where I live. Please contact me at any time for any problems, questions or concerns. Our committee members or myself would never intentionally hurt anyone. Also, due to scheduling of donkeys, life events and school events, March 15th of this year was the only time we could pull this event together. To our wonderful community, we are unique I think, due to all of our non-profit, volunteer based groups and people who run them, as well as people who just come together to help when people are in need. We have had many to look up to and learn from. Irv Densmore, Joan Welch, Richard Eggleston, Richard Pitkin, local food pantry, church groups, field hockey, ice hockey, baseball, football, boy scouts, girl scouts and many more! We as Corinthians pull together, we may not always agree but we do the right thing! The people who have come together to help try to rectify all the issues with the old/new playground are all volunteers, community members, some could only put a short time in, some longer, every minute of someoneĘźs time is precious and appreciated. Most have full time jobs, families, doctor appointments, homework, meals to make, laundry to do, major family events and they give of themselves & their time. They are busy, rushed, crazed most of the time and are doing their best! As anyone sho has organized anything knows its a learning process. We thank all for there kindness, love and thoughtfulness, as well as, your encouragement to continue (which we have all needed from time to time!) Art, Wine, Hors dĘźoeuvres, and Violin music by Tim Wechgelaer at Library Art Reception The Stony Creek Free Library is inviting you to come view art, enjoy wine, treats, and the violin music of Tim Wechgelaer at the Stony Creek Library Art show held Thursday, February 21, 7- 9pm. Approximately 20 local artists will exhibit their fine art and originally EXPIRES 3/31/13 3/31/113 PS designed crafts. On display will be works in diverse mediums including pieces in charcoal, acrylic, oil, watercolor, photography, and hand made paper. Also on display will be a hand designed quilt, an elegant hand crafted book, colorful bird carvings, a hand carved bowl, and embellished felt work. In connection with the show, two of the artists displaying their work are later scheduled to conduct workshops to teach their crafts. Held in March, the first workshop will be “Introduction to Book bindingâ€? where participants will make their own handmade books. In the second class, offered in April, each participant will create a small-scale embellished felt work. Both programs offered by the Stony Creek Library will be held at a Stony Creek venue and are made possible through a grant from LARAC. Space is limited. For more info call 518-696-5911.
