tions between the four hospitals to improve the coordination of specialized services in the region.“Onthis campus here, we receive calls — probably 50 to 100 different hospitals — on any given year that want to transfer patients here ... some of those transfers need to be cared for on this campus here. There are services we provide in the region that quite frankly, no one else does,” McKenna said. “But there are many other cases (in which) one of our other three hospitals in our system would be absolutely spectacular places to get care.”
The highest paid Albany Med executive that year was the hospital’s previous president and CEO, James J. Barba, who earned more than $2.3 million. Barba stepped down in March 2020.McKenna said last week’s layoffs were just “one step in many steps” in a financial mitigation plan that ramps up hiring on the clinical side and increases efficiencies across the hospital system. Building up the clinical workforce would expand bed capacity at the four hospitals and enable the facilities to accept more transfers from other hospitals.

More coordination between four hospitals should boost capacity and efficiencies, CEO says
“In a good year for hospitals in upstate New York, it’s maybe break-even or a 1 percent margin ... then the pandemic hits and we know that ultimately led to the Great Resignation,” which resulted in higher staffing costs but lower revenues as transfers from other hospitals had to be turned away, McKenna said.
Now, school districts are supposed to keep tracking cases but report them to their local health
LindsayWhenValenti.shewas informed that the state required the district to report all cases to the county health department, she said the district was doing that.

“Localsemester.health departments and schools will work together to determine if and when action in a school needs to be taken or if there is a risk posed to the general public,” Department of Health spokesperson Cadence Acquaviva said in an email explaining the reasoning behind the change. “New York state continues to provide an unprecedented amount of data in real-time on cases, hospitalizations, and fatalities from COVID-19. We are constantly evaluating the utility and presentation of data and will continue to update and change our data pages as necessary.”

MedHospitalssystem.in upstate New York operate with slim profit margins and the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis raised the costs of good and services across the board, hospital executives said. At the same time, reimbursement from insurance providers, including Medicare and Medicaid, stayed flat.
Tracking cases could inform parents of a surge, at which point they could choose to take protective actions such as masking. Additionally, the state Education Department could use school-specific statistics to evaluate the effectiveness of the state’s “back to normal” policies for this year.

One reason for tracking cases would be to determine whether schools that have purifiers, like Shenendehowa, have fewer cases than schools that do not yet have them, like Schenectady.Schenectady is also not releasing case data, said spokeswoman Karen Corona.
The show opens on Monday, Sept. 26th and runs through Oct. 7 The gallery space will be open from 1PM - 8PM Monday through Friday, and 10AM - 6PM Saturday & Sunday. The state is no longer releasing COVID-19 case numbers by school district, closing down the COVID-19 School Report Card, which had been a source of local statistics for two years.
In Saratoga County, a total of 70 cases of students with COVID-19 have been reported since the start of the school year, out of about 38,000 students, said spokeswoman Christine Rush. Some school districts have announced they will not make their COVID cases public anymore.“TheGuilderland Central School District will no longer report positive COVID-19 case numbers to families,” school officials posted at the end of their COVID-19 policies for the 2022-2023 school year.
Others said they were not tracking at all.
“We are not formally tracking COVID cases for the 2022-23 school year,” said Shenendehowa Central School District spokeswoman

Top hospital executives at Albany Med earned seven-figure salaries and bonuses during the pandemic, financial documents show. The seven highest paid Albany Med officials were collectively paid upwards of $10 million in 2020, according to hospitals’ federal filings recently compiled by USA Today.
The district has also received its air purifiers and distributed them throughout the buildings, she said.
“Our people are the backbone of our brand,” Albany Med Health System President and CEO Dennis P. McKenna said. “We are one team, 16,000 professionals strong, standing ready to care for the three million people of ourTheregion.”announcement comes days after news leaked that Albany Med leadership would cut 37 jobs at its main Albany campus, primarily on the management side, as part of a major financial restructuring.
Albany Med and other health care providers were forced during the pandemic to rely on private staffing agencies, which drove up nurses’ hourly rates by 213 percent, McKenna said.Officials said they plan to launch an internal staffing agency to encourage nurses who enjoy the flexibility of temporary assignments to stay local and work within the Albany

Health care organizations, including Albany Med, say they are facing unprecedented financial struggles as federal COVID-19 relief dollars run out.
Titled, space.“TheArt of Wood Fire”, this show gathers the work of ceramics artists from across the Northeast, who make the trek to a twice-yearly firing at a wood-fired ceramics kiln, constructed by artist Dan Greenfeld on family property in Charlton, NY, about 12 minutes drive from Ballston Spa.
Without full data, it’s not clear whether the elimination of all mitigation efforts in schools is leading to a spike in cases. But one Capital Region school district is reporting an increase.IntheAlbany City School District — where weekly cases are posted on the district’s website — there were 70 cases among students and staff in the first two weeks of the school year. By contrast, there were a total of 62 cases for all of June, meaning the number of cases has doubled. However, cases still represent a small percentage of the school district, which has 10,000 students and staff members.
The hospitals will eventually share a common digital medical records system and one patient portal, features that are expected to go live in 2024.
“With the new updated guidance/changes and after consulting with NYSDOH and Schenectady County DOH, we are no longer required to report numbers. School districts are not even required to report daily cases through the NY portal. Since we don’t have a mechanism to verify results when staff or students indicate they have COVID, it is not appropriate to report numbers or any cases that we cannot verify,” Corona said.

Projects that involve working with gas lines are among the most complicated and risky undertakings, and even seasoned do-it-yourselfers are urged to leave such tasks to certified professionals. According to Angi, the average cost to move a gas line is between $15 and $25 per linear foot, and homeowners can expect to pay an additional $1 to $10 per linear foot for pipe materials. A natural gas plumber can install, extend and repair natural gas lines and ensure that the project is completed safely, on time and within homeowners’ budgets. Angi notes that the average cost to move a gas line is between $250 and $750 for the whole project. However, if a buried line must be excavated, that cost could run into the thousands of dollars.
