By KENNETH C. CROWE II COHOES — The city’s Music Hall gets its time in front of the cameras Monday to appear in the second season of HBO’s “The Gilded Age” after weeks of preparation by the city and production crew members. The music hall will be the site of final filming in the Capital Region for the popular series created by writer Julian Fellowes. Filming wrapped up last Friday night in Albany after spending about three weeks on State Street between Dove Street and Sprague Place to take advantage of the 19th-century architecture that dominates the three-block stretch, including along Washington Park. Just as Troy served as a stand-in for New York City in the 1880s for season one and season two, Albany took on a similar role.Cohoes, with its surviving Harmony Mills on North Mohawk Street and mill hands’ housing along nearby Garner Street, was a substitute for mills in Pittsburgh.Troy was the center of local filming in 2021 for the first season of “The Gilded Age.” The show expanded its Capital Region footprint for the second season, crossing the Hudson River. Scenes were shot across Albany from Washington Park to Center Square to downtown and over to Arbor Hill. In all these locations lies a wealth of 19th-century architecture not only to provide a rich texture for exteriors but also to provide interiors for church and residentialStatescenes.Street on Aug. 10 saw three major characters for the series, Carrie Coon as Bertha Russell, Morgan Spector as George Russell, and Taisssa Farmiga as their daughter Gladys Russell, filming scenes that showed them walking past homes with lace curtains in the windows.Cohoes is counting on the second season of “The Gilded Age” to help draw more visitors to its historic buildings. Troy City Hall officials said last Friday that filming had been completed in the municipality.Troy’s Washington Park, homes around the park and on Second Street, the former fraternity house known as The Castle, River Street and the First United Presbyterian Church were settings for scenes.

By KATHLEEN MOORE COLONIE — Classes are back in session Sept. 12 at Shaker High School, but police are no closer to teachertohappenedoutfiguringwhatEnglish MeghanMarohn,Marohn.apoet who was on a leave of absence from the North Colonie schools, disappeared March 27 after staying at an inn in Stock-bridge, Mass. Her car was found parked and unlocked near a preserve trail in Lee, also in Berkshire County, her hiking boots left behind on a snowy day. Despite repeated searches, no trace of her has been found. The fact that Marohn was on leave from work, and that no colleagues or administrators will explain what was going on with her before she disappeared, has fueled speculation about foul play or suicide. The district had said that Marohn took leave for personal reasons. A woman who said she is a friend of Marohn’s wrote a post on the website Medium July 7 about Marohn’s disappearance and described Marohn’s fears about a male co-worker. She said she had given police the name of that co-worker. The self-described friend could not be reached for comment on herLeepost.Police Chief Craig DeSantis said Thursday that officers investigated that part of the case, and cleared the unnamed person.“Ican assure you we’ve appropriately handled any and all tips,” DeSantis said. Peter Naple, Marohn’s brother, said in interviews with news media that her laptop and other valuables were not found in her abandoned car. Naple recently declined to comment about the continuing search.ButDeSantis said if a person is suicidal, they often take their prized possessions with them. He said he could not confirm that Marohn’s laptop was not found after her disappearance.“Ifsomething like that were missing, we’re not considering that a red flag,” he said. “In general, people take certain things with them. Especially a writer, it’s not uncommon to take certain things with them.”The search is still active, but DeSantis warned that if Marohn’s body is in the area where she was last seen, it could be a long time before she is found. In a recent case where a person died due to a medical incident, it took police nine months to find the body, he “Evensaid.knowing where the person was, it was nine months before that person was found, and it wasn’t even a body of water,” the chiefPolicesaid.have searched a pond near where Marohn’s car was parked. Her cellphone last pinged near that location, which is across the street from where her car was found, in a wooded area without any clear trails. Her car was parked at Longcope Park, a heavily wooded, 46-acre preserve that has a 1-mile looping trail from the parking lot. Police searched the park as well. They have expanded the search and continue to investigate the circumstances of her DeSantisdisappearance, said.

“It’s not uncommon, unfortunately, for a great deal of time to pass,” he said about solving the case. The wait is agonizing for her family members who created a Facebook page, Find Meghan Marohn, but have not posted since June 19. In that post, they said they hadn’t given up hope. Marohn was living with and caring for her father in Delmar at the time she disappeared.“It’sbeen12 weeks now .... our hearts are broken that there has been nothing to bring us closer to finding Meghan. Someone, somewhere knows what happened or saw something that weekend that perhaps seemed odd maybe, but didn’t give it a second thought. PLEASE, if you can share what you know, even if it seems insignificant, it may be the missing piece that we need!!!” they wrote. They added, to Marohn, “If by chance you are out there somewhere Meghan ... WE LOVE YOU WE MISS YOU Please come home or let us know you are okay. We will never stopShakerlooking!”teachers union President Scott Dolan, who could not be reached for comment, told teachers last spring not to talk publicly about the “circumstances surrounding the disappearance.” This summer, nine teachers contacted by the Times Union cited that union guidance in their unwillingness to discuss things“WhileMarohn.therearethatIcannot share regarding a personnel matter, I ask for you (sic) trust to know that we were

ALBANY - Sam Fein, Albany County legislator and congregant at B’nai Sholom Reform Congregation, will discuss how his Jewish values led him on the path to public service in a talk at the synagogue Friday, Sept. 9, immediately following the congregation’s Shabbat service.B’nai Sholom is at 420 Whitehall Road, Albany, New York. The 7 p.m. service and program, part of the congregation’s Synagogue Scholars series of talks, is open to all who wish to worship and learn and is offered in person and via Zoom. Contact the synagogue office for Zoom link.Per B’nai Sholom’s COVID policy for in-person attendance, masks are recommended and welcome. Seating will be maintained at a healthy social distance. Fein represents Albany County’s 6th District, which includes parts of the South End and Arbor Hill, a community impacted by high poverty, decades of disinvestment and a history of racially discriminatory policies such as redlining. A strong advocate for policies that advance the causes of racial and economic justice, Fein will talk about running for political office and some of the issues he has worked on, such as banning questions about criminal history on job applications, pushing for fair lending practices by financial institutions and advocating for investments in affordable housing and programs to prevent gun violence. Projects that involve working with gas lines are among the most complicated and risky undertakings, and even seasoned do-it-yourselfers are urged to leave such tasks to certified professionals. According to Angi, the average cost to move a gas line is between $15 and $25 per linear foot, and homeowners can expect to pay an additional $1 to $10 per linear foot for pipe materials. A natural gas plumber can install, extend and repair natural gas lines and ensure that the project is completed safely, on time and within homeowners’ budgets. Angi notes that the average cost to move a gas line is between $250 and $750 for the whole project. However, if a buried line must be excavated, that cost could run into the thousands of dollars. Archaeology of the Religion of Ancient Israel Examined at B’nai Sholom CAPITAL DISTRICT - What do we know about the archaeology of the religion of ancient Israel, and how do we know it? A course offered by B’nai Sholom Reform Congregation in Albany will provide many of the answers. “The Archaeology of the Religion of Ancient Israel” will be taught by Steven Stark-Riemer via Zoom over six Thursdays beginning Sept. 8, 10-11:45 a.m.This course will begin by recognizing that previous approaches to the search for ancient Israel’s religion have paid insufficient attention to the archaeological data, which are substantial. Among the topics covered in this and succeeding sessions are: Canaanite religion before the emergence of ancient Israel; the distinction between “book religion” and “folk religion”; sacred space in ancient Israel; the cult of Asherah; death in the life of ancient Israel; and the transition from polytheism to monotheism. The timeframe of this course concludes with the Babylonian conquest and the consequent destruction of the First Temple in 586“TheB.C.E.Archaeology of the Religion of Ancient Israel” is open to the public. Fee for the six-session course: $54 ($36 for B’nai Sholom members). Registration is required.Formore information, visit bnaisholom.albany.ny.us.518-482-5283themalbany.orgwww.bnaisholo-orcontactB’naiSholomoffice:oroffice@

Joseph Corr wrote in the internal letter the district sent out last spring.TheNorth Colonie district organized a public vigil for Marohn in May, where her brother and a friend from her previous teaching job in New Jersey spoke. School officials would not allow media to approach anyone at the event to ask questions. The friend who recently posted online described Marohn as increasingly troubled, to the point of being “shattered.” Among the biggest triggers, the friend wrote, was the aforementioned male co-worker, who the police have cleared. But there were also many problems in the world that weighed on her heavily: racism, the environment, capitalism, the pains of the children in her classes and her own pain at not having children. The friend said in the recent post on Medium that she urged Marohn to hang on in New York until she could come get her in May, promising to help pack up her things and drive with her to move to another state.
