Bennet Litter
These two babies were rescued from a bad situation down in a Florida trailer park. The people who rescued them thought they could keep them but found themselves to be homeless shortly after arriving in New York. They brought them in to us. We took them in, gave them shots, de-wormed them and got them vet checked. Now they are ready to find new, forever homes. They are beautiful and sweet baby boys.
Jonah
Jonah is a southern rescue who joined us this past weekend. He was found in a trash bin crying when he was rescued. He is up to date on shots, de-wormed and ready to go. This boy is a real lover, is very bright and easily trained. He already knows sit and stay. He will make a wonderful addition to any home.,

Baskets of Hope CLIFTON PARK – Members of The Chamber of Southern Saratoga’s Women In Business Committee are reaching out to the community for help with their charitable initiative, Baskets of Hope, which supports the daily needs of Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services of Saratoga County (DVRC). The Committee seeks donations of women’s personal care items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. Donated items are assembled into gift bags by committee members and given to victims entering the shelter with the hope that the recipient will take comfort in knowing there are people in their own community who care and want to help. Baskets of Hope, an ongoing program of the Women in Business Committee, is now in its seventh year thanks to the support of generous Chamber and community members. Anyone who wishes to participate in this worthy program can do so by bringing donations to The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County Office at 15 Park Avenue, Clifton Park (behind the Shoppers World Plaza) during regular business hours, Mon.-Fri., 8:30am-5pm. Questions about the Baskets of Hope or the Women in Business Committee should be directed to Chamber Member Services Manager Liz Roggenbuck at 371-7748 x108 or by email at liz@southernsaratoga.org (A) HANDYMAN Very Reasonable! Billy is a 3-year-old, black and white, boxer/hound mix. He came to Mohawk Hudson from an overcrowded shelter in Ohio and is ready for his new family. Billy loves attention and would like to sit with you for some quality petting time. He is always excited to go for walks so he can sniff and explore. He already knows sit and takes treats so gently. Could Billy be the new man in your life.
Griddle
Griddle is a very large grey tiger and white puss with big yellow eyes. Three years ago, Griddle’s former owner took in a stray cat and she gave birth to Griddle and his littermates at her home. Griddle and Bugsy stayed. He is young and a little shy, but that’s understandable. Their family couldn’t keep him after their owner got really sick. He has lived with other cats. He’s shy at first, but leans in for petting if you just give him a minute. These two brothers would be especially happy if they could go home together.
Bugsy Domestic Medium Hair Mix, 3 Year Old Male, Grey/White Bugsy is a 3-year-old, domestic long haired, grey and white cat. He has wonderful curly eyebrows. Three years ago, Bugsy’s former owner took in a stray cat and she gave birth to Bugsy and his littermates at her home. Bugsy stayed, and I can understand why. This is one beautiful cat. Bugsy is a big hunk of a cat, with huge green eyes and a perfect face. He is young and a little shy, but that’s understandable. Bugsy’s family couldn’t keep him after his owner got really sick. He has lived with other cats. He’s shy at first, but leans in for petting if you just give him a minute. He’s likely to be on the quiet side, but will warm up after a few days and be a lovely, affectionate cat.

Paying property taxes is a necessary side effect of home ownership. Across the United States and Canada, residents are required to pay property taxes based on an assessment of their homes’ value.
Taxes on land and the buildings on it are one of the biggest sources of revenue for local governments. In the United States, property taxes are not imposed by the states, but by the smaller governing bodies in cities, towns, townships, counties, and other jurisdictions. In Canada, property taxes, or milliage taxes, are levied by the jurisdiction in which the property is located. They may be paid to a federated state or a municipality or the national government. Sometimes multiple jurisdictions may tax the same property.

The Basics Of Property Taxes
SALE SALE SALE
Although the taxes are mandated by a higher governing power, the rate at which you pay taxes could be based on a very local assessment of the area in which your house is located and the current market conditions. An assessor will visit a home -- usually prior to purchase -- and make a determination on the percentage of tax to be paid depending on the condition of the home, the improvements that have been made and the climate of the economy in your particular town or city. Property taxes are usually calculated by taking the assessed value of your home and multiplying it by the tax rate that has been determined by your local government.
residents, for example, pay an average of $3,900.
In this tough economy, lowering property taxes (which are generally rolled into the mortgage amount for ease of payment) could substantially reduce bills. As many as 60 percent of properties across the United States are overassessed, according to the National Taxpayers Union, a nonprofit group that promotes lower taxes. If you suspect your property taxes are high, here are the steps to take. * Get a copy of your property tax assessment from the local assessor’s office and double-check all the information contained to see if it is correct.
* Check the assessments of five comparable homes that have sold in your neighborhood in the last three years. * An independent appraiser can also provide you accurate information at a cost. Make sure he or she is licensed with the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers or by the American Society of Appraisers.
* It’s not possible to lower the property tax rate, just the assessed value of the home through an official appeal. There may be fees associated with this appeal, however.

While no one can “legally” escape paying property taxes, there are several ways to have them lowered. Getting your home re-assessed is one such way. Individuals who have reached a certain age may be eligible for certain discounts on property taxes. But this may require a very low income to qualify. There are also some tax credits or homestead exemptions that may qualify you for a limited assessed value on the property. According to data from the Tax Foundation and Forbes, areas of New Jersey, New York and Illinois boast some of the highest property taxes. Residents of Hunterdon County, New Jersey paid on average $8,600 a year between 2005 and 2009. Those in Lake County, Illinois pay around $6,500. People living in Westchester County, New York can plan on spending $8,400 per year. Statistics indicate that homes located in Ontario cities in central Canada have the highest property taxes. Toronto

Want a Job Interview? Fire Your Resume (NewsUSA) - With almost 4 billion resumes distributed annually, there's growing frustration among job seekers that they are blending into the competitive landscape. While the economy plays a role, some experts believe resumes might also be a reason for this anonymity.
Traditional resumes weren't a necessity until the 1950s, and their evolution has been marked mainly by enhanced delivery methods. While Facebook revolutionized connectivity, and LinkedIn provided tools for networking, they merely brought the crowd, not the methods to stand out in one. A resume today
looks a lot like one from 20 years ago.
Joe Weinlick is VP of Marketing at Beyond.com, a career network of over 30 million members that connects job seekers to employers. They've introduced a new tool called Career Portfolio that reshapes resumes, making them more dynamic and visual. On average, recruiters spend 30 seconds on a resume, and Weinlick feels this graphical approach will change perceptions during interviews by allowing recruiters to learn more about candidates, faster.
"If the only resume you have is one you can recreate on a typewriter, you're missing a big opportunity," said Weinlick. "We surveyed hundreds of HR professionals in our network, and 55 percent responded that the biggest problem they see is a failure to use a resume effectively. What makes a resume unique to a recruiter isn't the font; it's how easily they're able to scan for relevant skills and experience."
Weinlick provides three ways to spice up resumes:
1. Information Location. Make sure your best attributes are front and center. The company doesn't know you yet, so don't bury what makes you special. 2. De-Clutter. Avoid confusing jargon and overwriting. This is the first chance you have to show your communication skills, and you want to be as clear as possible.
3. Sea of Sameness. Look past the constricting traditional resume format, and prove you can approach problems differently. If you aren't unique when applying, you won't be unique when working. For those who feel their current resume works, Weinlick challenges them to send it as an attachment to portfolio@beyond.com, where Beyond.com will transform it into a Career Portfolio and provide a free membership.
"Career Portfolio can't change your work experience, but it can change how people view it," said Weinlick. "If you are serious about getting interviewed, it's time to give your current resume a serious makeover."

Newer Child Safety Seat Guidelines Parents of young children may need to brush up on their knowledge of child safety seats and seat belt restraints. Many are still operating in adherence to older guidelines that go back more than a decade. As a result, parents should re-educate themselves in order to ensure child safety. In guidelines published in April of 2011, the American Academy of Pediatrics made some modifications to the period of time a child should be kept in a rear-facing seat. Prior to 2011, parents were told it was safest for infants and toddlers to ride rear-facing up to the limits of the car seat or when children reached 12 months in age and 20 pounds. But new guidelines advise that children should be kept rear-facing until age 2, or until they reach the maximum height and weight for their seat. “A rear-facing child safety seat does a better job of supporting the head, neck and spine of infants and toddlers in a crash, because it distributes the force of the collision over the entire body,” says Dennis Durbin, MD, FAAP, the lead author of the new policy. Transport Canada says children should be kept in rear-facing seats until they outgrow them. There are some rear-facing seats that will accommodate children up to 20 kg (40 pounds). As long as the child is still below the weight and height limit of the current child seat, they should continue to face the back of the car. Rear-facing seat recommendations weren’t the only ones to be modified in 2011. New advice on booster seats for older children were also presented. The AAP and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say children should ride in a belt-positioning booster -- which is the highback booster seat that provides a guide for the vehicle’s seat belt -- until they are at least 4 feet, 9 inches and between 8 to 12 years old. Vehicle seat belts are designed to fit an average adult. In order to get the best protection, children usually need a booster seat until they are about 4 feet 9 inches tall and weigh between 80 to 100 pounds. Smaller children may need to remain in a booster a little longer than anticipated.

Transport Canada advises that as long as a child still fits within the manufacturer’s weight and height limits for the booster seat, it is safer for the child to remain in the booster seat rather than wear a regular seat belt. Canadians also are urged to check with their province or territory for specific laws concerning when a child can move to a seat belt. Children should not ride in the front seat of a car until they are age 13 or older. Parents of preteens who were under the impression that booster seat days were coming to an end will need to keep the safety seats in the car a few years longer. But safety seats should not be placed in an area of the car where an air bag can be deployed. Parents and other adult drivers may want to heed some other safety precautions before a child is upgraded to a new seat. * A seat belt should never be placed under a child’s arm. * Children should always be buckled up in a booster seat with both the shoulder and lap belt. * The seat belt should fall across the shoulders and the lap belt should rest on the upper thighs when a child is in the seat of a car. If the seat belt rubs against the neck, the child is not yet tall enough to give up a booster seat. * Mirrors placed in the rear seat of the car can help parents see their children in rear-facing toddler seats.
* Children who cannot be trusted to keep a seat belt latched should not be moved from a fivepoint harness to a regular seat belt.
* Parents unsure if their children are buckled up correctly can have the seat checked at a police station or first aid building. Keeping children safe means heeding warnings and guidelines regarding safety restraints. It is not adviseable to upgrade a child into the next seat until he or she has met all the measurement requirements set in place.

Did You Know? Men and women looking to finance the purchase of their next vehicle could potentially fall victim to a practice referred to as “spot deliveries.” Consumer advocacy groups warn that spot deliveries, in which a car is sold “on the spot” before the financing has been completed, can leave consumers with average or below average credit vulnerable to abuse. When a person wants to finance a vehicle purchase, the dealership must first find a bank to approve their loan application, a process many

Things To Know About Motor Oil When it comes to taking care of their vehicles, many motorists prefer to be overly cautious. While that’s not necessarily a bad thing, there are times when being too cautious can unnecessarily cost you money. Motor oil, and when to change that oil, has long been a point of contention. Many drivers grew up being told that motor oil should be changed every 3,000 miles. However, that myth has been debunked for many of today’s vehicles, which should come with suggested intervals between oil changes. According to Edmunds.com, in 2010 the average interval for oil changes was 7,800 miles. In addition to changing a car’s motor oil less frequently, there are other things drivers should know about motor oil. * Oil does not necessarily need to be changed before a long trip. Taking a trip? While it’s good to have your car examined before embarking, if the recommended oil change interval is not up, then you do not need to preemptively change your oil. Such a change is likely unnecessary and will not improve the performance of your vehicle during the trip. * Black oil does not necessitate a change. Conventional wisdom once suggested if the oil on the dipstick is black then it needs to be changed. But nowadays automotive professionals are noting that black oil is doing its job and different additives might be changing the oil’s color, which means the oil doesn’t need to be changed. * You can use petroleum-based oil after using synthetic. Another longstanding myth regarding

motor oil was that once you use a synthetic motor oil instead of a petroleum-based oil you have to continue using synthetic oil, which is often more expensive than more traditional motor oil, in order to avoid harming the vehicle. However, automotive professionals have noted that these two types of oils are now often blended, meaning switching back and forth from one to the other is not likely to cause any damage to your vehicle. Just be sure to use motor oil that meets the standards set forth in your vehicle’s owner’s manual.
* Consider an earlier oil change after buying a new vehicle. Sometimes a new vehicle will need an oil change after its first 3,000 miles. However, this does not mean your vehicle will need one every 3,000 miles. According to Blackstone Laboratories, who study motor oil, oil samples taken from engines during their initial 3,000 miles of driving had elevated metal levels from the camshafts and pistons. These elevated levels will not necessarily be harmful, but some auto manufacturers recommend a shorter initial interval just to be safe. Honda, however, includes an anti-wear additive in their break-in oil and advises against changing their oil early. Consult your owner’s manual to determine if it’s best to change your oil after the initial 3,000 miles or to let it go until the recommended interval.
