Men and women looking to finance the purchase of their next vehicle could potentially fall victim to a practice referred to as “spot deliveries.” Consumer advocacy groups warn that spot deliveries, in which a car is sold “on the spot” before the financing has been completed, can leave consumers with average or below average credit vulnerable to abuse. When a person wants to finance a vehicle purchase, the dealership must first find a bank to approve their loan application, a process many banks do not do on nights or weekends, when many people are inclined to shop for a vehicle. During a spot delivery, a dealership will allow the consumer to drive off the lot with the car, even though the consumer has yet to be approved for a loan. In some cases, the lender may not approve the application, forcing the consumer to return the vehicle, while other times the lender might only approve the loan with a high interest rate, one the consumer may be unwilling to pay. In addition, lenders may require a higher down payment the consumer cannot afford. To protect themselves from spot deliveries, consumers can arrange for vehicle financing on their own before visiting a dealership, or insist that the lender approve their applications before they take possession of the vehicle.

Addition to Museum Pass Program CLIFTON PARK – The Friends of the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library are pleased to announce a new addition, the FASNY Museum of Firefighting, to our Museum Pass Program, which totals 9 museums. The FASNY Museum of Firefighting is located in Hudson, New York. Although I am a little shy, I do like to have my soft coat petted. I warm up pretty quickly ‘cause I’m basically the friendly sort and I enjoy the company of people. I came to the shelter with three house mates and they have all been adopted. Our owner lost their home and had to move to an apartment where cats are not allowed. I have lived in one family for many years, so this is a big change for me. Even though I am a senior citizen, I am doing quite well. I’m a lovely lady who you really should meet.

Baskets of Hope

CLIFTON PARK – Members of The Chamber of Southern Saratoga’s Women In Business Committee are reaching out to the community for help with their charitable initiative, Baskets of Hope, which supports the daily needs of Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services of Saratoga County (DVRC). The Committee seeks donations of women’s personal care items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. Donated items are assembled into gift bags by committee members and given to victims entering the shelter with the hope that the recipient will take comfort in knowing there are people in their own community who care and want to help. Baskets of Hope, an ongoing program of the Women in Business Committee, is now in its seventh year thanks to the support of generous Chamber and community members. So they gave him away at the tender young age of seven, to a nineteen year o...ld with no stability in his life. Last week the nineteen year old was evicted with Doc and four cats. We took in Doc and two of the cats and another rescue took the other two cats. Doc is a very confused gentlemen. He is a little sad and all he wants is a family with kids, other animals and a place to call home till the end of his days. He is a purebred beagle, a little chubby, up to date on vaccines and neutered. He is the sweetest boy ever.

Autism Information Fair & Carnival CAPITAL REGION – April is Autism Awareness Month. Things To Know About Motor Oil When it comes to taking care of their vehicles, many motorists prefer to be overly cautious. While that’s not necessarily a bad thing, there are times when being too cautious can unnecessarily cost you money. Motor oil, and when to change that oil, has long been a point of contention. Many drivers grew up being told that motor oil should be changed every 3,000 miles. However, that myth has been debunked for many of today’s vehicles, which should come with suggested intervals between oil changes. According to Edmunds.com, in 2010 the average interval for oil changes was 7,800 miles. In addition to changing a car’s motor oil less frequently, there are other things drivers should know about motor oil.

While it’s good to have your car examined before embarking, if the recommended oil change interval is not up, then you do not need to preemptively change your oil. Such a change is likely unnecessary and will not improve the performance of your vehicle during the trip. * Black oil does not necessitate a change. Conventional wisdom once suggested if the oil on the dipstick is black then it needs to be changed. But nowadays automotive professionals are noting that black oil is doing its job and different additives might be changing the oil’s color, which means the oil doesn’t need to be changed. * You can use petroleum-based oil after using synthetic. Another longstanding myth regarding motor oil was that once you use a synthetic motor oil instead of a petroleum-based oil you have to continue using synthetic oil, which is often more expensive than more traditional motor oil, in order to avoid harming the vehicle. However, automotive professionals have noted that these two types of oils are now often blended, meaning switching back and forth from one to the other is not likely to cause any damage to your vehicle. Just be sure to use motor oil that meets the standards set forth in your vehicle’s owner’s manual. * Consider an earlier oil change after buying a new vehicle. Sometimes a new vehicle will need an oil change after its first 3,000 miles. However, this does not mean your vehicle will need one every 3,000 miles. According to Blackstone Laboratories, who study motor oil, oil samples taken from engines during their initial 3,000 miles of driving had elevated metal levels from the camshafts and pistons. These elevated levels will not necessarily be harmful, but some auto manufacturers recommend a shorter initial interval just to be safe. Honda, however, includes an anti-wear additive in their break-in oil and advises against changing their oil early. Consult your owner’s manual to determine if it’s best to change your oil after the initial 3,000 miles or to let it go until the recommended interval.

On July 22, 2011 Alisha Schoonmaker and Kyle Dobert, both 20 years old, were tragically killed by a drunk driver. Alisha was a 2009 graduate of Shenendehowa High School and Kyle a 2009 graduate of Hoosick Valley High School. Determined to keep their spirits alive, Heidi Bennett (Alisha’s Mom) has established the Dove Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating senior at Shenendehowa that has knowledge of the SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) program and is actively involved in community services. The Bennett family along with Alisha and Kyle’s friends will host the 2nd annual Dove Memorial Scholarship event on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 3-9pm. The event will be held at Trick Shots Billiards in Clifton Park. There will be featured performances by several local bands, raffles, a silent auction, 50/50 and food provided by local businesses.
