MELVIN ROADS TO HOST AMERICAN LEGION 94th ANNIVERSARY On Saturday evening, March 16th, the Melvin Roads Post 1231 American Legion will formally acknowledge the 94th Anniversary of the American Legion. Members of the American Expeditionary Force convened in Paris March 15-17, 1919 for the first American Legion caucus. Today there are 2.4 million members in 14,000 posts worldwide, of which Melvin Roads is one, locally numbering 402 active members. A dinner dance is scheduled for the Post Banquet Hall beginning at 5:30pm with dinner at 6:30pm. Ham or Corned Beef are the entrees served family style. Draft beer and soda is included. Music and Dancing will be provided from 7:30pm to 11:00pm. Given the date, the “wearin’ of the green’ is most appropriate! Animals purchased with these donations go to needy families around the globe, along with the education needed to successfully care for them and pass the gift on to others in their community. MAKING HEALTHY STIR FRY MEALS “Making Healthy Stir Frys” is the title of the next cooking class presented by Anna Dawson and Nancy Estes. The class will take place from 2- 4 p.m. at the Hometown Foods Kitchen (362 Eichybush Rd., Kinderhook 12106) on Saturday, March 16th. Participants will compare grocery store frozen meals to those that can be made at home. Activities will include: • Identifying vegetables that can be frozen • Comparing vegetable prices and sources • Vacuum packing a vegetable • Putting together a stir fry kit • Preparing and sampling two stir fry meals Each family will take home a stir fry meal kit. FREE PASTA DINNERS The First Reformed Church is serving its free pasta dinners on each Tuesday evening in March. The dates will be March 19 and 26. On March 12th, you will be served by some of the Algonquin Middle School students who will have also prepared that dinner. They are a wonderful service oriented group of kids. We’ll see what they prepare for us on that night, but other Tuesdays the dinner will consist of pasta with either plain or meat sauce, tossed salad, rolls, beverages and homemade desserts.
