NYS DEFENSIVE DRIVING CLASS On Saturday, April 27th, 2013, from 9AM to 3PM there will be a New York State approved Defensive Driving Class to Benefit the Boy’s & Girls Club of Southern Rensselaer County. Save 10% on your base auto insurance for the next three years & be eligible to receive up to 4 points off your driving record according to New York State Department of Motor Vehicle guidelines. The class will be held at the Boy’s & Girls Club of Southern Rensselaer County, 544 Broadway, Rensselaer, NY. Fee is only $39 - bring a friend, $34 each. DOES YOUR DOG HAVE GOOD MANNERS? The Patroon Dog Training Club will be starting a new beginner dog training class on Monday, April 29th. Dogs will learn basic manners, including, how to walk on his or her leash, to sit and stay, and to lie down when asked to.

SLCA-CIRCLE THEATRE PLAYERS PRESENTS “A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM” Sand Lake Center for the Arts-Circle Theatre Players presents Shakespeare’s classic comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. This is the most popular of Shakespeare’s plays. Perhaps because of the four stories, interweaving and colliding, each in its own palette, mode and original music. A bonus will be fairy dancers, choreographed by Jackie Abbott of The School of Creative Arts. The production, directed by Barbara Leavell Smith, opens May 10 and continues May 11, 12, 16, 17, 18 at 8 pm; and Sunday, May 12 and 19, at 2:30 pm. Sand Lake Center for the Arts holds its next Sundays at the Center Workshop - May 5 at 1:30 pm – “Beaded Jewelry Workshop” with Ann Whitney. Learn techniques for making a professional piece of beaded jewelry with your own design. Make a beaded necklace, or bracelet. Clasps, needles and thread will be supplied with an $8 materials fee. LEGION POST TO HOST “TRIBUTE TO ELVIS” The Ladies Auxiliary of the Melvin Roads American Legion Post 1231 is holding a “Tribute to Elvis” the evening of Saturday, April 27th. Doors will open at 6:30pm at the Post located 200 Columbia Turnpike. A Turkey Dinner will be served at 7:00pm with the show scheduled for 8:00pm. The cost for the whole package is $30 per person. HABITAT HOUSE FUNDRAISING EVENT AT THE ARLINGTON HOUSE The Arlington House is hosting a Fundraiser which is open to the Public. CornerStone Telephone Company, an advanced communications solutions provider based in downtown Troy, is co-sponsoring a Habitat for Humanity House being built as part of an eighthome project in Troy. To raise money for the Habitat house, CornerStone will be holding a fundraiser on Monday, April 29, 2013, 6:00pm, at the Arlington House in West Sand Lake. Tickets to the event are $50 and include appetizers, open bar, live music by the Bent Rail Band, and raffles. Raffle items include a 46” television, a one-week stay in Ft. Myer’s, FL with a $275 Southwest gift card, an iPad, and a weekend in Lake George. Bulletin Board FRIENDS OF AVERILL PARK PERFORMING ARTS to HOLD CHICKEN BBQ BENEFIT On Tuesday, May 21, 2013, 3:00-6:00PM, same day and location as the school district budget vote, Friends of Averill Park Performing Arts will host a benefit Chicken BBQ. Support the APHS Music programs and enjoy a delicious chicken dinner. Dinners will be available to eat on site or take home. Dinners include: Half BBQ chicken, baked potato, corn, coleslaw, and dessert, all for only $10 per dinner. In addition to pancakes, we will have eggs, bacon, sausage, juices and more. This event has been a huge success over the years mainly because of the commitment and support of our community. We have in the past and expect again this year to serve over 500 people making the event a sellout success. Come and enjoy a good meal with a great atmosphere! Supporters may eat-in or take-out. The proceeds of the event will benefit community projects such as youth sports team sponsorships and our scholarship program.

BRUNSWICK ELKS ROADSIDE CHICKEN BBQ The Brunswick Elks located on RT 2 in Troy will hold its Annual Roadside Chicken BBQ from 12PM to 5PM. Dinner includes 1/2 chicken, choice of 2 sides, beverage and dessert for $10. Advance orders call 3682909. All proceeds to benefit Cerebral Palsy.

ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT BREAKFAST The Poestenkill Christian Church, 721 Snyder’s Corners Rd., Poestenkill, will be having their monthly All-YouCan-Eat Breakfast on Saturday, May 4th, from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. Cost is $7.00 for adults and $3.50 for children under 10. Menu includes eggs, homefries, regular and blueberry pancakes, French toast, sausage, bacon, toast and coffee and juice.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER BREAKFAST Sand Lake Area Association of Churches are privileged to invite you to attend the National Day of Prayer Breakfast being held Thursday, May 2nd, at St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church in Averill Park from 7AM to 8:30AM. The Breakfast buffet will be $8.00. Prayer for our nation, its governmental leaders, churches, schools and families will mark the event. Rev. Mark Norlund, Hospital Chaplain and Pastor at Petersburg Baptist Church will deliver a special message on prayer that will be important to our nation’s present and future. MELVIN ROADS AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL Melvin Roads American Legion Baseball team plays a competitive 35 game summer baseball schedule for serious varsity level baseball players. Melvin Roads has captured New York State Championships in 2007 and 2009. Last season, Melvin Roads won the Coopers Cave Tournament; comprised of more than 32 talented American Legion teams from all over the continental United States. The team is managed by former Melvin Roads and collegiate players; Marc Peluso, Troy High coach Curtis Nobles, and Matt Murphy. Players must be born after 12/31/94 to be eligible for this coming season.
