NYS DEFENSIVE DRIVING CLASS On Saturday, April 27th, 2013, from 9AM to 3PM there will be a New York State approved Defensive Driving Class to Benefit the Boy’s & Girls Club of Southern Rensselaer County. Save 10% on your base auto insurance for the next three years & be eligible to receive up to 4 points off your driving record according to New York State Department of Motor Vehicle guidelines. The class will be held at the Boy’s & Girls Club of Southern Rensselaer County, 544 Broadway, Rensselaer, NY. Fee is only $39 - bring a friend, $34 each. SLCA PRESENTS FOUR SEASON, FOUR YEARS-THE CIVIL WAR: A MUSICAL JOURNEY On Sat., April 20th, at 8pm experience a unique musical journey as extraordinary musicians Greg Artzner, Dan Berggren, Betsy and Steve Fry, Reggie Harris, Terry Leonino, John Roberts, Bill Spence, Toby Stover, Susan Trump, and George Wilson, perform at the Sand Lake Center for the Arts as part of its Squire Jacob concert series. Several of these musicians will be recognized from performances. This presentation of both solo and ensemble work was produced, compiled and directed by Old Songs, Inc. executive director, Andy Spence, in collaboration with the musicians, and includes songs of the Civil War era as well as those composed in response to the War. DOES YOUR DOG HAVE GOOD MANNERS? The Patroon Dog Training Club will be starting a new beginner dog training class on Monday, April 29th. Dogs will learn basic manners, including, how to walk on his or her leash, to sit and stay, and to lie down when asked to. Classes will run for 8 weeks on Monday evenings at 6PM at the VFW Post in Poestenkill. These classes will be held outdoors on the field at the Post. STORY DINNERS IN BRUNSWICK What are “Story Dinners”? Each month Gilead Lutheran Church holds a dinner which is open to the public. There is no charge for the meal, but we ask that a donation be made to one of the charities we have chosen to support. This year these charities are: Wounded Warriors, The Damien Center, Hurricane Sandy Relief, and ELCA World Hunger. After dinner, one or two people who have volunteered to speak, tell a story about something that has happened to them that has changed their life. It could even be a story they have read that has had an effect on their life. It has become an evening where adults can get out, have a meal, and enjoy themselves. There is no set amount which has to be contributed and no pressure for anyone to get up and speak. Our April dinner will be on April 19th at 6PM. ST. JUDE’S K OF C ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT BREAKFAST The next St Jude’s Knights of Columbus All-You-CanEat Pancake Breakfast will be on April 20th in Dammann Hall at 24 Dana Ave., Wynantskill. All the Pancakes, Sausage, Bacon, eggs, hash browns, fruit, and bagels that you can eat! All served with hot coffee and a smile by our Knights! We will have a box available to collect items for local vets who get service at the Albany VA hospital. Items that are needed for vets who are admitted as an emergency or are in need include: regular coffee; decaffeinated coffee; powdered creamer; 1 lb bags of sugar; boxes of “Sweet and Low”/Spender etc.; large and medium sweatshirts; under wear and tee shirts (all sizes, boxers and briefs); white tube socks’ Effervescent denture cleaning tablets; toiletry items, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, etc. Breakfast is served 8am to 11am.
