Elks Auxiliary Annual Victorian Tea SARATOGA – The Saratoga-Wilton Elks Ladies Auxiliary will hold their annual Victorian Tea with entertainment and talk by “The Victorian Lady”, Sue McLean, on Sunday, March 10, from 1-4pm. The Tea will be held at the Lodge, 1 Elks Lane in Saratoga. A $10 donation at the door includes a free gift to the first 100 guests, finger foods, soup, desserts and a chance at the many raffles and door prizes. Mohawk Valley Chorus Pops Concert BALLSTON SPA – “At Last,” the 2013 Pops Concert of Mohawk Valley Chorus, will be presented at 7pm on Saturday, March 9, at the Ballston Spa Baptist Church and at 3pm on Sunday, March 10, at United Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam. A highlight of the program, featuring a variety of music, will be Jeffery L. Ames’ “In Remembrance,” opening the second half of the concert. This was selected by MVC director David Rossi as a special memorial to the victims of the Sandy Hook elementary school tragedy in Newtown, CT, especially Principal Dawn Hochsprung, who had close family ties to Broadalbin. The tribute will follow performances by two groups, the Sentimentalists, a sextet of chorus members, and the MVC Youth Chorale, directed by Margaret Lazarou. Mohawk Valley Chorus, which rehearses in Amsterdam, is made up of 100 vocalists from throughout the area. Members come from Fulton, Montgomery, Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, Schoharie and Hamilton counties. Tickets for the concert are available, in advance, from chorus members, or at the door of both performances. General admission: $12; Senior Citizens & Students: $9. Children, 12 and under, are admitted for free when accompanied by an adult. Doors open 30 minutes before curtain time. (P)

Veteran Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program SARATOGA COUNTY – The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors is proud to announce a new program aimed at Veterans who are interested in having a mentoring relationship with another Veteran. This pro-

gram aims to match Veterans with other Veterans who have similar interests, goals, or life experiences. If you are someone who is attempting to get re-acclimated to civilian life, and looking for some extra help with the transition we would love to talk to you! Our mission is to design, implement and evaluate a Saratoga County based peer-to-peer support program for veterans who are experiencing post-traumatic stress symptoms. We do this by providing: outreach, education, access to local resources, peer to peer relationships, a sense of hope, help with building resiliency, tools for family and community connectedness, and access to suicide prevention/intervention measures. If you are someone who is interested in mentoring another Veteran and you think you have time and experience to offer, please call 518-884-4999 as well, and we will be happy to speak with you. Korean War Veterans Hold Monthly Social Events GLENS FALLS – Each month Adirondack Chapter #60 holds a social event hosted by members at various restaurants within the 7-county area served. Book Reviews BURNT HILLS – The United Methodist Women of the Burnt Hills United Methodist Church, 816 Saratoga Rd., Rt. 50, Burnt Hills, will host a program of Book Reviews on Wed., March 13, beginning at 1pm in Knight Hall. The following panel of five speakers will report on books: Marlene Maynard, Joan Hallgren, Jane Coffey, Dorothy Conklin and Janet Waite. STILLWATER – For St. Patrick’s Day, Stillwater Area Community Center is holding its monthly Pinterest craft class on March 16 from 9-10am. A volunteer teaches this class. The Pinterest craft for March is a festive St. Patrick’s Day or spring wreath. Please bring 3-4 spools of ribbon, you may choose all greens or spring colors, and a Styrofoam wreath. Hannah will be giving a motivational talk about her training and rise to the Olympic level, as well as teaching Judo basics to all that are interested. Bulletin Board sistance through VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) in 2013 for those whose incomes are lower than $50,000. This program is sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service and the New York State Department of Tax and Finance and provided by the Saratoga County Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. Tax preparation will be on Wednesday evenings through April 10 from 5-7pm. Assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis, numbers will be given out at the Welcome Desk. No appointments will be taken. Availability is limited. All VITA tax help will take place on the first floor in the Board Room at the Library. There is no charge for this assistance. Taxpayers must bring their Social Security cards and picture identification or other accepted official documents for all dependents listed on the tax return. Additionally, bring appropriate tax receipts, statements and a copy of last year’s tax return. The tax preparation is provided by Saratoga County VITA, Drake Nilsson, Coordinator, and is not a provided library service. Digital Photography for Beginners CLIFTON PARK – Come to the Clifton Park- Halfmoon Public Library on Monday, March 11 from 1-3pm for the program Digital Photography for Beginners. This basic class (two sessions) is designed to help you get started with your digital camera. Learn about basic terminology, functions, and settings of your digital camera. Download pictures from your memory card through Picasa (photo editing software). Organization of picture files and emailing techniques will also be presented. This program begins at 6:30 pm and is intended for children ages 3-8 and their families. Local performer and educator Diane Payette will lead the story time program, which will feature stories, songs, and a craft about bedtime. Bring

Wind Down Wednesdays CLIFTON PARK – Teens in grades 6-12 come to the Clifton Park- Halfmoon Public Library on Wednesday, March 13 from 3-5 for Wind Down Wednesdays. Teens will be able to spend time with their friends, playing Wii, board games, doing homework or whatever. Laptops will be available, or bring your own. Snacks will be provided. Genealogy and Local History SCHUYLERVILLE – Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County will meet on Saturday, March 16, at 1pm at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, corner of Rt. 4 and Rt. 29 in Schuylerville. The speaker will be Bob Jones, an Associate Professor of Economics at Skidmore College. He is currently involved with Greenfield’s Historian, Ron Fuelner, in mapping the town’s cemeteries. Bob will explain the process and how we might use “Google Earth” to solve our own geographical riddles. Public is welcome. For information call 587-2978. (P)

Library to Close for Construction MECHANICVILLE – The Mechanicville District Public Library will be closed to the public from Monday, March 11 through Saturday, March 16 due to construction. The Library will reopen on Monday, March 18, at its regular time. (P)

Accepting Book Sale Donations CLIFTON PARK – The Shenendehowa Adult Community Center, 6 Clifton Common Court, Clifton Park, is currently accepting donations for their spring Book Sale, which will take place April 13, from 9am-4pm, at the Center.
