Bulletin Board L.L. Bean Bike Clinics STILLWATER – On Saturday, April 20, Saratoga National Historical Park will partner with L.L. Bean to offer a series of free 1-hour Bike Maintenance classes between 12-4pm at Saratoga National Historical Park located at 648 Route 32 in Stillwater. These programs are open to the public and offer basic bike maintenance and safety tips to help you gear up for the 2013 biking season! L.L. Bean Clinic: 12-1pm; 5-Mile Ranger-Guided Bike Ride: 1:15-2:45pm (limited to 20 participants); L.L. Bean Clinic: 1:30-2:30pm; L.L. Bean Clinic: 3-4pm. Programs are weather dependent. Exhibit Grand Opening & Community Dance NEW SALEM – Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 1-4pm, the New Scotland Historical Association will have the grand opening of the new exhibit: “Entertainment Before 1950 and TV,” to be held at the Wyman Osterhout Community Center, New Salem, NY. Along with viewing the new exhibit, come enjoy a community dance from 1:15-2:45pm with caller Paul Rosenberg and band “Fire Flies.” Enjoy a tradition of community dancing and music handed down from generation to generation. The toe-tapping music consists of reels, jigs, polkas, hornpipes and waltzes. Instruments include fiddle, banjo, mandolin, flute, pennywhistle, guitar, and recorder. Everyone can participate– from ages 2 to 102 (especially those who have not danced before) -- in easy-to-learn American barn dance favorites. If you don’t wish to participate, it’s also fun to

Jewish Women’s Circle CLIFTON PARK – Join the Jewish Women’s Circle for Mosaic Art at 7:30pm on Thursday, April 11 at 495 Moe Road. BALLSTON SPA – The public is welcome to attend the April 11 meeting of the club at 6:30 PM at the American Legion Hall at 23 Pleasant Street. The featured presenter is Jesse Elwert Peters, an ecologist, habitat garden designer, garden coach and owner of her business “Jessecology Organic Garden Design” in Saratoga. Her vision as a garden designer is to create naturally beautiful and low maintenance gardens using mostly New York native plants that co-operate with nature. Jesse is sure to give an informative and inspiring presentation. A small donation will be appreciated. (P)

BALLSTON SPA – Free clothing will be given away at the Ballston Center Associate Reformed Church on Saturday, April 20. Autism Information Fair & Carnival CAPITAL REGION – April is Autism Awareness Month. To assist parents, families & caregivers of people on the autism spectrum in their search for resources the 2nd Annual Autism Information Fair and Carnival, sponsored by Wilcenski & Pleat, LLC, will be held on Sunday, April 21 at the Skidmore College Intramural Gymnasium from noon to 3pm. The event will serve as an essential source for those seeking resources and will be host to more than 40 exhibitors. Organizers from Saratoga Bridges and the Parent Network have come together to produce the event. Information about camp programs, therapeutic programs, recreational programs, technological apps for autism and pre-k – college education programs will be available at the information fair. Family oriented activities such as arts & crafts and a bounce house will be available for children as well as babysitting provided by Skidmore College Student Volunteers so that parents can have an opportunity to wander the fair and gather information. Brian Zapel Dance CLIFTON PARK – On the last Sunday of every month Brian Zapel holds a dance at the Shenendehowa Adult Community Center, 6 Clifton Common Court, Clifton Park. “The Animal in Me” Poetry Project CLIFTON PARK – Friends of the Clifton Park/Halfmoon Library in partnership with Shatekon Elementary School is the Recipient of a 2013 Saratoga Arts Council Grant in which fourth grade students at Shatekon Elementary School will participate in “The Animal in Me,” poetry project with poet Jacqueline Sweeney the week of April 20 – May 3. Following the residency, “The Animal in Me” a poetry slam featuring Shatekon’s fourth grade students will take place at the Clifton Park – Halfmoon Public Library, 475 Moe Road, Clifton Park, on May 31 from 11am-12:15pm. Please join us for an exciting morning of poetry. Students will share their original poems and 3D masks unleashing the animal within each of them. All student work will be on display at the library for first two weeks of June. Please consider supporting our students. They take pride in their work and look forward to sharing with the community. Annual Spring Geranium Sale BALLSTON SPA – The Ballston Spa House and Garden Club is pleased to announce its third annual spring Geranium Sale. Available for sale are pink, white, pur-

ple, red, dark red, and salmon geraniums with buds and blooms in 4-1/2 inch pots at $4 each. Proceeds from the sale will supplement club efforts to provide funding for the following club initiatives: a scholarship to send a Ballston Spa middle school student age 1214 to Camp Colby in Saranac Lake in the summer for one week; a cash award for a deserving Ballston Spa high school senior that has been involved in horticulture or a related field; and other club projects such as the maintenance of the Pink Garden at the Ballston Spa Public Library and the Upper Trail Garden at the Jim Tedisco Fitness Trail. Brookside Museum Receives Grant From Stewart’s Holiday Match BALLSTON SPA – The Saratoga County Historical Society is pleased to announce the receipt of a grant from the Stewart’s Foundation for $1500 to help offer education programs to approximately 4000 children in the Capital Region this year. Marchione Announces First Two Stops on “Listening Tour” SCHUYLERVILLE/TROY – Listening Tour kicks-off Wednesday, April 10, 7pm at Saratoga Town Hall (12 Spring St., Schuylerville), continues on Thursday, April 25, 7pm at Brunswick Town Hall (336 Town Office Rd., Troy). Sen. Marchione has invited all constituents to attend the two opening Listening Tour stops and share their concerns, and suggestions, regarding state and local issues. During her Listening Tour, Sen. Marchione will hear directly from constituents regarding the needs of their local communities and also will provide an update on the Legislative Session and the 2013-14 State Budget. Marchione was elected last fall to represent the 43rd Senatorial District, which includes parts of Rensselaer, Saratoga and Washington Counties, and all of Columbia County. (P)

Volunteers Needed for $-H WARREN COUNTY – Warren County 4-H is looking for a few good volunteers! The Warren County 4-H Youth Development Program needs volunteers who are interested in starting or co-leading 4-H clubs. We are looking for adults over the age of 21 who are interested in sharing their time and talents with the youth of Warren County. Training is provided and you determine the amount of volunteer hours you can offer. If you have a special set of skills that could help make the difference in the lives of young people then 4-H is the place for you. Cornell Cooperative Extension’s mission is to enable people to improve their lives and communities through partnerships that put experience and research knowledge to work. Turkey Hunting Safety Seminar for Youth & Mentors WARREN COUNTY – Turkey hunting can be one of the most enjoyable hunting adventures; but it can also be one of the most challenging. Safety should be the number one concern of all hunters. Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Warren County 4-H program and the National Wild Turkey Federation JAKE’s program are joining forces to offer a program to assist youth and mentors with information about safety and successful turkey hunting. This program will be presented on Friday, April 5 from 11am-4pm at the Chestertown Sportsman Club, Chestertown. Youth and their hunting mentors are encouraged to attend this program together. Youth must be 11 years or older, weigh 80 lbs. or more, and must be enrolled in 4-H by the day of the class. The cost for the program is $10 and includes enrollment in 4-H until September 31, 2013. Pre-registration is required and be done by calling Cornell Cooperative Extension: 668-4881 or 623-3291. There is a limit of 15 youth for this program. (P)

Spring Cleanup Volunteers Needed CAMBRIDGE – The meditation gardens at New Skete Monastery (www.newskete.org) where the Monks and Nuns have welcomed guests from near and far for more than 40 years, needs a spring spruce up! The monastics would be most grateful to any community groups or individuals who could join us on this Earth Day, Monday, April 22 from 10am-2pm to assist in the cleanup. Tasks include general spring cleanup of branches, brush and leaves from the flowerbeds around the churches. If possible, please bring your own rake, gloves and tools.
