Clarence “Fritz” Neumann was an influential leader of the Council having served in many capacities, including the position of Grand Knight. He also served the Glenville community as a member of the Town Board and as Town Supervisor. With his passing in February 2006, the Council named a scholarship in his honor. $2000 Clarence Neumann Scholarship GLENVILLE – The Glenville Knights of Columbus are again sponsoring a 1-year $2000 scholarship to be awarded to a graduating High School student entering a college of their choice this fall. Students who reside in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, Scotia-Glenville, Niskayuna High School districts and are an active member of the Roman Catholic Church are eligible. Bowl-A-Thon AMSTERDAM – The 2013 Annual Montgomery County SPCA Bowl-A-Thon will be held on Saturday, February 9 at Kelly’s Imperial Lanes on Wallins Corners Road in Amsterdam. The event directly benefits the homeless animals at the MCSPCA Animal Shelter. Registration will begin at the Lanes promptly at noon, with bowling from 1-3pm. The $10 per bowler registration fee includes two games of bowling and rental shoes. GLENVILLE – The Town of Glenville has announced that all 2013 town, county, school and water taxes will be processed at the Glenville Municipal Center, 18 Glenridge Rd. In 2012, 1st National Bank of Scotia assisted with the collection of taxes, but based on proposed costs for bank services in 2013, the town has determined that an in-house collection will be the most cost-effective process. Town of Glenville residents are asked to plan on paying all taxes for 2013

Rare British Naval Jet Fighter Comes to ESAM GLENVILLE – The Empire State Aerosciences Museum is proud to announce the acquisition of an extremely rare jet fighter. British authorities at the Fleet Air Arm Museum, Yeovilton, England, have agreed to the transfer of one of only three remaining Supermarine Scimitar F.1 strike fighters from the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum to the care of ESAM. Powered by two Rolls-Royce Avon 202 un-reheated turbojets, each of 11,250 lbs. thrust, the Scimitar was supersonic in a shallow dive. Serving only with the Royal Navy-- Nos. 700, 736, 800, 803, 804, 807 Squadrons and the Fleet Requirements Unit—the Scimitar was soon overtaken, technically, by other jets. It was withdrawn from frontline service in 1966. ESAM’s example is one of just three survivors from a production run of 76 (the other two aircraft are both in museums in England), so it represents a rare chance to see an early generation jet fighter. Self-Therapy for the Stutterer CAPITAL REGION – Self-Therapy for the Stutterer is the classic self-help guide by the founder of The Stuttering Foundation, Malcolm Fraser. It is written to and for the many adults and teens who stutter. The 192-page book is available at most public libraries including those in Delmar, Cohoes, Guilderland, Loudonville, and Ravena. The Joan Nicole Prince Home, a community home for the terminally ill, is looking for individuals wanting to “make a difference” by caring for terminally ill residents who lack the support and options to remain at home during their final days. Volunteers are needed to provide personal care, support, meal preparation, laundry and light housekeeping. Training and ongoing support is provided.
