Michael Barone was forbidden from contact with former girlfriend B y K EN N ET H C. CRO W E II
TROY - Retired Albany police lieutenant and attorney Michael S. Barone was unusually silent during a Rensselaer County Court appearance Monday morning after spending about three weeks locked up with his bail revoked for allegedly violating orders of protection that forbid him from contacting an ex-girlfriend. Barone, 55, ended up in the Rensselaer County Jail after he violated the Albany Family Court orders and was charged in Brunswick Town Court with criminal contempt, according to court records and confirmation by the special prosecutor and Barone’s defense attorney. Barone had been out on $25,000 bail after allegedly shooting and robbing a friend last year in the city of Rensselaer. Bar-one had pleaded not guilty in February to felony counts of first-degree robbery and second-degree assault before Rensselaer County Court Judge Debra Young.

Barone’s defense attorney Michael McDermott has had to quiet his client during previous appearances. Barone has spoken up and addressed judges directly when he has appeared before. On Monday, Barone did not say a word during the proceeding. He was wearing a green jail uniform, a far cry from his February arraignment when he appeared in a suit and carried a briefcase. Barone is accused in the Brunswick court with contacting the former girlfriend after he had been ordered to stay away from her. Columbia County Assistant District Attorney Brendan Cranna said the case is scheduled for court on Wednesday. Columbia County District Attorney Paul Czajka’s office has been named special prosecutor for the cases Barone faces. In both cases, Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly asked for the assignment of a special prosecutor due to conflicts of interest. Some of Donnelly’s staff had extensive contact with Barone in Albany County. Chief Assistant District Attorney Matthew Hauf previously worked in the Albany County District Attorney’s Office on cases in which Barone testified as an Albany police officer. Assistant District Attorney William Andrews ran for Albany County Family Court judge in which Bar-one also was a candidate. In addition, Donnelly’s father and husband were both Albany police officers and worked with Barone. Barone’s court appearance Monday dealt with procedural issues. The prosecution is still awaiting evidence from various police agencies involved in the felony case. While the crime allegedly occurred in Rensselaer, Barone was arrested by Albany police after taking the

the company’s revenue growth in the previous quarter. Regeneron executives said operations did sustain a $211 million loss on equity securities compared with about $144 million of net gains from it during the first quarter of 2021. Looking toward the rest of 2022, the company anticipates it will spend somewhere between $2.9 and $3.1 billion on research and development, a slight increase from its previous projection. “Our business achieved strong revenue growth in the first quarter of 2022 as we continue to realize the benefits of our sustained R&D investment and our focus on commercial execution,” said Regeneron Chief Financial Officer Robert Landry. “We remain confident that our differentiated products and significant pipeline opportunities position us well to deliver strong results and provide sustainable value to patients and shareholders,” he added.

Defreestville Fire Department May Update May is for mothers and so we say to all of you, Happy Mother’s Day! This article will appear after the holiday but we wanted to extend a huge ‘thank you’ to those special women in our lives for all they’ve done for us. May also brings us the official start of summer in Memorial Day. This holiday evolved into a celebration more associated with beaches, vacations, and grilling hamburger. Please don’t forget to take a moment and appreciate the ultimate sacrifice those in our armed forces have made in defense of our country and national ideals. The memory of their lives given, and the burden their families carry, should always remain a part of Memorial Day. The Defreestville Fire Department will participate in two parades this year; the North Greenbush Memorial Day Parade, as well as, the City of Rensselaer parade. As usual, the town parade will take place on the last Monday of the month - May 30th - and kick off at 1:30 PM. While April showers should bring May flowers, last month brought the DFD a busy time in terms of calls for assistance. The DFD responded to a total of 34 calls for assistance, 21 of which were within the Defreestville zone. Of those total calls, we had one structure fire in town and one response for mutual aid to the City of Rensselaer. Last month, the DFD also hosted our Annual Member Recognition and Officers Installation Banquet. It was a complete success and everyone had a good time.
Thank you to the members who planned this event and to all the vendors that contributed to a great evening. Have you ever thought of volunteering for the fire service? Do you have an interest in public safety? Want to learn more about joining a great group of volunteers? We invite anyone curious about learning more to visit at our station any Tuesday at 7 PM and speak with us about becoming a member. You can also message us though our Facebook page located at https://www.facebook.com/defreestvillefire where we’ll be sure to respond quickly.
Poestenkill Town Board Minutes Poestenkill Town Board – Meeting Minutes – Thursday, April 14, 2022 Public comment – A resident discussed the recent meetings with residents to review the status and suggestions of the Covid relief funding, questioning why only some residents received a mailed invitation. Supervisor Hammond acknowledged the problem with the mailing and stated he would make sure that the situation was corrected. Highway Superintendent DJ Goyer discussed a recent, potentially dangerous situation involving a Twin Bridges truck and members of the Highway Department. He also mentioned the weight of the Twin Bridges trucks and the negative impact on town roads. He requested a communication from the Town to the company to address these concerns. Mr. & Mrs. Russo, residents at 10 Stanton Avenue, reviewed with the Town Board and the Town Attorney, the “paper street” plats
and their location. Supervisor Hammond stated that Attorney Gilchrist would assess the situation and it would be further reviewed at the next Town Board meeting. Resolution authorizing the purchase of equipment for the Town of Poestenkill Highway Department. The board unanimously approved the purchase pf a Trailer Mounted High Pressure Sewer Cleaner not to exceed $78.190. These minutes to be approved at the next Town Board Meeting on Thursday, April 14 at 7pm. Please note that Town Board Meetings are now held on the second Thursday of each month. We look forward to welcoming old and new friends back to the Greenbush Historical Society as we resume regular programs and events. The program is free and open to the public. Answers To Common Pet Fostering Questions
Animal shelters serve as temporary way stations for animals that are between homes. The purpose of shelters is to offer food and safe surroundings for surrendered or lost pets until they can be reunited with owners or be adopted by new families. The ASPCA says around 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S. shelters every year, with a nearly even split between dogs and cats. While shelter pet numbers are on the decline since 2011, many shelters simply cannot house too many animals. In many instances, shelters rely on pet foster families. What is pet fostering? Fostering a companion animal is an agreement by an individual to care for a needy pet in his or her private residence until the animal is placed in a permanent new home. Many times shelters will ask foster parents to step up and house puppies to provide early socialization and training to acclimate these young animals to living in homes. Who pays for fostering costs? The question of financing foster care depends on the organization one works with. Most shelters or rescue organizations will cover at least some of the costs of supplies and medical care. However, this is not always the case. It is important for potential foster parents to understand the commitment fostering requires before signing up. What are some benefits to fostering for the people involved? While there are many benefits to the pet, including a less stressful, quiet environment, people get something out of fostering, too. Foster families can provide love and affection to an animal that needs it. It can be rewarding to do something selfless, and teaches compassion to everyone in the household. Since having a pet is a large responsibility, pet fostering also serves as an introductory lesson for anyone considering becoming a permanent pet parent. When fostering a pet, everyone in the household gets to see the day-to-day tasks that pet ownership requires. How long is the fostering term? The ASPCA says that time commitments for fostering can vary. Sometimes it may be a matter of weeks or it could be months, depending on the foster program and the pet’s situation. What are common expectations? A foster program will explain their specific expectations. These may include training the pets to void outdoors or in a litter box. Foster parents may be expected to teach a dog to rest in his crate or basic commands. Who can I reach out to? The animal care resource Great Pet Care says municipal shelters, nonprofit shelters and nonprofit animal rescue groups typically have fostering programs. Rescue groups tend to have more time and resources to provide temporary pet parents with more compatible animal matches. Fostering a pet can be a rewarding and worthwhile experience for pets and people.

The Characteristics Of Various Cat Breeds
Cats perch on windowsills and the tops of sofas in many homes across the country. The American Veterinary Medical Association indicated in its U.S. Pet Ownership & Demographics Sourcebook (2017-2018) that 25.4 percent of households owned cats, with a total of 58,385,725 cats residing in the United States that year. The Canadian Animal Health Institute says cats continue to outnumber dogs in Canada, where 8.1 million cats were kept as household pets in 2020. Pet owners understand that there are a variety of dog breeds, each with its own behavior, size and temperament standards. For example, a golden retriever may behave much differently than a toy poodle. The same can be said for cats; cat breeds vary and each has its own notable characteristics. The following are a few popular cat breeds and what owners can expect if they open their homes to these felines, courtesy of PetHealthZone® and Cat Fanciers’ association. • Abyssinian: A popular cat breed, abyssinians are elegant and regal-looking. While affectionate, they tend not to be lap cats, but are known for their curiosity and playfulness. These cats come in four different ruddy colors. • American Bobtail: This cat has a short tail and tufted ears and toes. It resembles the wild bobcat. Some say these cats are dog-like in their personalities. They may enjoy greeting family and some can even be leash-trained. • Bengal: Bengals look like a wild cat with their spotted coats. They are extremely intelligent and require much energy to stimulate them mentally. • Burmese: Burmese cats like spending time with their families and bonding with people. They hail from Thailand, although it was rumored the cats were from Burma, and come in American and British variations. • Devon Rex: With its oversized ears, the Devon Rex can look like a cartoon character. And a character he or she is, preferring to curl up on a warm lap or follow people around the house. The breed also has a hint of mischievousness, so watch out. • Himalayan: Puffy and beautiful, these cats desire petting and grooming. They were bred by crossing Persian and Siamese cats to produce a striking mix. Himalayans are affectionate, intelligent and extroverted. • Maine Coon: These cats got their name from the legend that they’re a cross between a cat and a racoon. This isn’t the case, but Maine Coons are among the largest cat breeds in the world and have fur and tails that resembles a wild racoon’s. People-oriented, intelligent and easy-going are some traits associated with this breed. • Persian: Persians have scrunched faces and silky, flowing coats. They tend to be quiet and gentle, and will offer unconditional love to owners. They can take a while to warm up to new people. • Siamese: These cats look similar to Burmese, and also hail from Thailand. Brown paws and blue eyes give them a striking look. They’re quite talkative and very intelligent. With scores of cat breeds, people can undoubtedly find felines that fit their lifestyles.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Responding to Bill Baker’s Letter As a candidate for the Averill Park Board of Education, I would like to respond to Bill Baker’s questions appearing in Letters to the Editor in the May 5 edition of The Advertiser. Questions 1 through 4 ask me to share my beliefs regarding the 2020 presidential election results and the events of January 6. I don’t believe that my beliefs around these events have any connection with my ability to serve effectively on our Board of Education. Focusing on candidates’ opinions of these matters further politicizes the current election and is not in the best interest of our kids, so I won’t answer these questions. Regarding question 5 (“Should LGBTQ persons be employed by Averill Park school district in any capacity?”), my answer is yes, if they are the most qualified to perform the duties associated with their job. We need the best people to help run our schools and should never discriminate based on someone’s sexual orientation, race, religion, gender or any other characteristic. It’s also important to note this sort of discrimination is (rightfully) protected by law and any discrimination of this sort exposes the district to potentially costly legal action. Adam Stewart, Averill Park
North Greenbush Needs More Walkways The Route 4 roundabout project appears mostly complete. I believe that I heard at one of the town meetings that more pedestrian walkways were to be included in it, but had to be removed from scope because of costs of the overall project. Beyond this Route 4 project, I have heard other town resident comments about the need / desire for more walkways. I encourage the NGB Supervisor and Town Board members to reach out to Glenville or Scotia. An April 23, 2022 article in the Daily Gazette discussed how those two towns were seeing $12 million in federal grant funding and $2 million in state funding for pedestrian pathways along Route 5s. We need more proactive solutions to address the town’s needs. Residents want more pedestrian pathways in town and the Town should help achieve that goal. Michael Myer, North Greenbush
911 We manage a low-income senior housing project located actually in Burnt Hills, New York. We have a major concern that has been brought full-focus to our attention that will potentially have a very serious issue for any institution that has a 911 alarm monitoring service or if you have a POTS - or plain old telephone system connected via copper phone lines. From the inception of phone system in decades, I have never known it to go down where one could not get dial tone that is - with copper land-lines. This will all change if Verizon Direct has its way and only fiber is available for one’s phone service. A question needs to be asked and hasn’t been satisfactorily answered yet to my knowledge. What if power is knocked out regionally and your 911 alarm system doesn’t alert as there is no power to the system ? We have been told that we can install a battery that will last 8 hours which we have - but then - you will
need even more batteries after that. But we have easily had outages that last even longer than 8 hours to over 24 hours or more. And what about those places in more rural and remote areas ? If power is knocked out - and cell towers are knocked out... do you send smoke signals ? What happens if your senior complex or hospital or institution that relies on this 911 monitoring systems and those batteries do not work ? Your alarm system is worth nothing...as no power...no call to 911. I know that I have lost my phone service with Spectrum when their service has gone out during a power outage on more than one occasion. So - the question needs to be fully answered. If Verizon chops off all means / support for copper phone lines... will you be able during an emergency event be even able to call your son or daughter or better yet 911 if needed ? This is a very untenable issue - that definitely needs to be re-examined if Verizon intends to terminate use of copper telephone lines in the entirety and go only elusively with fiber. Kristine Collie, Project Manager
Averill Park CSD Needs to REFOCUS Our voice is rarely heard and we suspect it is the voice of many in our community. Years ago we sent our children to Catholic grade schools and paid tuition. As tuition rose the principal and pastor decided to cut costs by getting back to the basics. Shouldn’t Averill Park CSD permanently do the same? Are the extras really necessary and beneficial to all? Can retirees and others bear the burden yearly of increased school taxes ? The extras like the numerous college credited offerings for high school students call for increased teaching hours and do not benefit all. Simply put, we need to trim the fat. Let us refocus on the basics like communication skills, life skills, listening skills, application of Math and Science, and citizenship. As one who teaches in our schools these skills can be improved upon. Vote for representatives that will fight for the biggest bang for our buck while assuring our children master lasting skills and knowledge that really prepare them for whatever lies ahead of them. Let us refocus on the long term and not be so short sighted. Steven Constable, Resident APCSD
No Doubts in APCS Board Elections If you attended the Meet the Candidates Night at APHS on Tuesday, May 3, I think you’d have to agree that candidates Borton, Gendron and Spallane are working hard to politicize the Board election and foist their ‘conservative’ values on our school district. They mimic the same hollow rhetoric their compatriots across the nation are pushing ….masks are bad….their rights are being taken away…vaccinations are a conspiracy….schools should be controlled by parents….on and on. It’s easy to see the fallacies in these ideas. Are we to take no public health action and watch our children suffer ? Are we expected to have parents approve the next calculus textbook to be used at APHS ? Are we to ignore the serious social and emotional challenges our children face every day ? These three are well organized, well-funded and certainly highly committed to their objective. They proudly

state they are working as a ‘pack’ to further their values and if elected they will continue this approach. Could anything be farther from the goals of public education ? If this troubles you, do not sit idly by and neglect to vote. Go to the APCS website, read the bios, then come out with your friends, relatives and family to stop this dangerous gambit. An election can tell a community a lot about itself and your vote COUNTS !! If you’re seeking good candidates, I would recommend Meaghan McGarry and Samantha Hicks, both currently on the Board and seeking re-election, and Adam Stewart. The grand finale Tuesday night was Mr. Borton’s complaint that all members of the current Board are “liberals”. I don’t know why he’s surprised at this because providing a robust public education for all our children has been a basic liberal value through history. We’re proud of it and we continue to do it despite certain obstacles. Bob Crowley, Poestenkill
DEC: WM to Investigate Itself And yes, people, if you are reading that title as saying that the NYSDEC has delegated the task of determining whether or not politically powerful Waste Management, the permittees of the DEC- permitted and regulated Poestenkill transfer station, are the source of the PFAS in our drinking water in Poestenkill to Waste Management themselves, you are reading that correctly, that according to an April 11, 2022 correspondence on NYSDEC letterhead from Eric Hausamann, Chief, Section D, Remedial Bureau D, Division of Environmental Remediation to Waste Management of New York, LLC, Attn: Warren Harris, Sr. District Manager, 424 Peters Road, Gansevoort, NY 12831, which correspondence concluded by stating, “Please contact me at 518-402-9759 within the next 15 days to indicate your willingness to perform the sampling and/or to discuss the scope of the requested water testing.” In the meantime, however, in a FOIL response on April 25, 2022, the NYSDEC made it clear that it is continuing to defend the position taken in a January 8, 2022 determination of DEC Executive Deputy Commissioner Sean Mahar that the Poestenkill transfer station is not the source of the PFOS contamination in our groundwater as was reported by NEWS 10 on January 8, 2022 in a story titled “Officials no closer to finding source of PFOA contamination in Poestenkill, says councilmember” by Richard Roman to wit: “We have extensive investigative work underway in this community to evaluate any potential sources of groundwater contamination in the vicinity of the Middle School, and have already preliminarily ruled out several potential sources including the transfer station and Poestenkill landfill,” and it is also continuing to defend a 31 January 2022 determination by Susan Edwards, the superior of Eric Hausamann, that the transfer station is not the source of the PFAS contamination, both of which are political decisions unsupported by any evidence. So this scam on us by the DEC continues, big surprise! Paul Plante, Poestenkill

OPINION If Democracy Survives, Thank A Federal Employee By Jennifer Rubin (c) 2022, The Washington Post Republicans since the Reagan era have made an art of disparaging the federal government and its workforce. "The nine most terrifying words in the English language are 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help,'" President Ronald Reagan wisecracked at a news con ference in Aug ust 1986. W hat began as a mission to limit the reach of the federal government and promote federalism soon morphed into an effort to starve government of resources and then, in the MAGA era, to essentially disable it, filling the ranks with cronies and relatives, chasing experienced hands out of government, turning the mission of public service into one of private gain, while removing a professional civil service as a check against an authoritarian-minded president. The assault on government, coupled with other deleterious phenomena (e.g., social media, scandals), has taken its toll. The Partnership for Public Service in March released a poll on trust in government. The results were dismal. "America is experiencing a lack of trust in major institutions - particularly the federal government," the survey found. "Only 4 in 10 Americans say they trust the federal government to do what is right at least some of the time." The study also found: "More people feel the federal government has a negative impact (53%) on the United States than a positive one (38%). More than half do not believe the government helps people like them, and two-thirds believe the government is not transparent or does not listen to the public. For many members of the public, key associations with the federal government are politics and politicians which are perceived very negatively. Members of Congress, for example, are seen favorably by only 30% of the public compared with 61% who see them unfavorably."
T here were, a s one might expect, dramatic partisan differences. "Democrats are far more likely to trust the government (60%) than Republicans (27%) and independents (26%)." It was not all dreadful. "A majority of respondents (57%) said federal employees are doing public service, and 56% said they are hard workers. Half thought that federal workers are committed to helping 'people like me' compared with 33% who say they are not." Over half said "serving their communities" is a very important reason people work for the federal government. When it comes to specific agencies such as the National Park Service or the Social Security Administration, approval rankings were much higher than for the nebulous "federal government." The survey also found that featuring success s t or ie s i mpr o v e s t he overa l l impression of the federal workforce. Specifically, the survey found that "focus groups conducted for this project responded positively to videos of high-achieving public servants - specifically, winners of the Pa r tnersh ip's Sa muel J. Hey ma n Ser v ice to America Medals." Earlier this week, finalists for this year's awards were a n nou nced a s pa r t of Public Service Recognition week. W het her pr otec ting computer networks during the pandemic or restoring the Voice of America's reputation or transforming the entire operations of the Labor Department, the honorees' accomplishments provided a portrait quite at odds with the negative stereoty pe of lazy, incompetent civil servants t hat a nti-gover nment right-wingers perpetuate. Certainly, the coronavirus presented unprecedented challenges to the federal workers. "The federal workforce was very resilient during covid and attrition was relatively low. I think we are seeing more people leave as folks are encouraged to return to buildings," president
of the Partnership, Max Stier, told me. "The data from the federal employee viewpoint survey just came out" - the survey was from last fall - "and employee engagement scores across gover nment fell. They actually went up the year earlier, which I think was strongly related to the flexibility employees were given." A lso as part of Public Service Recognition week, President Biden on Monday recognized more t h a n 20 0 ot her federal employees with the Presidential Rank Awards, which his predecessor (all too eager to demean federal workers) discontinued. Biden told the recipients, "Not only are you helping to confront the great challenges of our time, you're showing America, the world ... what we can do when we come together and lead with honor and integrity ... with a federal government that looks like America and gets things done for all Americans." Without an engaged, competent work force, faith in government, and in democracy itself, is likely to continue eroding. "Supporting federal employees and retaining t heir deep k nowledge and expertise on a wide range of important national issues is critical to ensuring a responsive a nd wel l-f u nc t ion i ng government, the central institution of our democracy," Stier says. "While power routinely shifts from one political party to another, the nonpartisan civil service provides professionalism, stability and continuity across administrations, especially during times of turmoil and upheaval." To repair the damage wrought by the Trump administration requires a restoration of faith that democracy can offer rulebased, clean and competent government. That should spur both political parties to recognize high performers and to embrace a variety of reforms aimed to combat cronyism, conflicts of interest and politicization of scientists' and prosecutors' work. Our democracy depends on it.
Spending $33 Billion On Ukraine Is Equal To Eliminating Four Government Agencies Gary Franks, Tribune Content Agency The United States has sent $3.7 billion of military support to Ukraine thus far. Now we want to give ten times that amount should Congress agree to President Joe Biden's latest proposal. Why such a huge increase? Is there a specific goal - other than "whatever (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelenskyy wants"? Will we hold him accountable? Or is this the beginning of a "blank check" strategy in which Zelenskyy dictates how big it will eventually be? Does the U.S. have a role in establishing peace? Is anyone negotiating with both parties for peace? Or do we feel that military escalation will yield the only possible positive result? If that is the case, we must remember what an embargo caused Japan to do to the United States in the 1940s. And we must recognize the potential danger of cornering a clearly unstable leader in Russian President Vladimir Putin who controls the world's largest nuclear weapons stockpile. Where is the European Union or NATO in the funding of military hardware for Ukraine? The United Kingdom has pledged $375 million in military hardware, a far cry from America's $33 billion. And we are still waiting on others to step up to the plate. The U.S. should not be donating +95% of the required resources. Other nations should be compensating us for saving them from a possible expansion of the Russian military and state. This should not be a total U.S. war via a proxy state. Does anyone realize how much $33 billion is? Yes, it is $11 billion less than the amount Elon Musk is paying for Twitter. So, it can't be all that much? Wrong. It is. This ten-fold increase in funding to Ukraine would be equal to shutting the doors of the following U.S. government departments - Labor, Commerce, Small Business Administration, and the Environmental Protection Agency. All have been Cabinet-level positions. Instead of their hysteria pertaining to Jan. 6, abortion, or "anything" Trump, the liberal media and Democrat leaders should pause for a minute and digest the meaning of this amount of aid. Biden's presidency resembles the failed presidency of Jimmy Carter in so many respects. Ukraine is a just cause, but we are spending all this money to attempt to correct Biden's mistakes. Where to begin? Biden and his administration falsely claimed that sanctions would deter Russia from invad-
ing Ukraine. Compound that error by Biden's refusal to concede that he ever said sanctions would deter Russia from invading Ukraine. A contingency plan, like arming the Ukrainians, was never implemented prior. Now, as a massive boulder is rushing down the hill, about to crush the Ukrainians once and for all, we are trying to help these brave people stop it. Let us also keep in mind that we have never been given a count of how many Ukrainians have been killed in this senseless war over land. Why not? I measure how well Zelenskyy is doing as president not only by the territory he is preserving, but by the lives he is preserving. Let us look back at history. In 1979 former President Jimmy Carter was shocked by the Russian invasion of Afghanistan. He expressed outrage just like Biden has done about Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Both presidents were ill prepared to deal with the crisis. Over time, the U.S. government armed the Afghan rebels to fight off the Russians. Eventually (after about 9 years), the rebels won. At worst, I see a similar scenario playing out in Ukraine in the 21st century. The folks who have their hearts in a fight usually win. That is in anything. There is no question that the Ukrainian people have their heart and soul in pushing back the Russians. Let us also remember that the story of Afghanistan continued. It was the place where Osama Bin Laden planned his 9/11 attack on America, which resulted in a 20-year war against Afghanistan. Years later, Biden bungled our exit from the country as well, leaving behind billions of dollars in U.S. military equipment. Carter and Biden are two old-fashioned, liberal Democrat politicians who have more in common than anyone would like to concede. They both benefited from the impeachment of a prior Republican president - Nixon and Trump. They both created an energy crisis and supply chain problems. They both allowed themselves to be taken advantage of via taking in illegal immigrants and in allowing Americans to be taken hostage abroad (in Biden's case, Russia is holding Americans in its prisons, including a female basketball player). Also, both had policies that contributed to causing high inflation and growing interest rates. The best thing about the Carter Administration was that it was followed by a Republican President, Ronald Reagan, and brighter days for America. For the sake of America and the free world, let us pray that Biden can do better, not worse.

In a statement, Brothers said he reached out to Barone after three men, including one to whom he wanted to sell marijuana, robbed him at gunpoint in his apartment of $1,200 and 4 ounces of marijuana. Brothers told police he could not reach Barone, so he drove to his home on Central Avenue in Colonie. “I told Mike what happened,” Brothers said. “Mike got his gun, vest, gas mask and tactical pants on. Then both of us got into his (Mercedes) SL 550 and went back to my place.” Hours later, Barone allegedly shot Brothers. Barone then took Brothers to Albany where city police arrived in response to a report of the victim of a gunshot wound.
