GLENS FALLS – The South High Marathon Dance is a student run event that aims to raise money for individuals, families and organizations in need of financial assistance. In its 33 yr. history, the Marathon Dance has raised over 2.4 million dollars for more than 184 beneficiaries within So. Glens Falls and surrounding communities. This year’s dance will be held on March 4 & 5 at the So. Glens Falls Senior High School. Opening ceremonies begin at 7pm on Friday evening. Kipper’s Clippers is organizing the annual “cut-a-thon” throughout the weekend, Marathon Dance apparel and photos will be offered for sale, 50/50 raffle, concession stand, and live and silent auctions. WARREN COUNTY – Ag Literacy Week (March 21-25) will be celebrated across NY state in second grade classrooms with a visit from a community member involved in agriculture. This year’s book is the Chicks & Chickens written by Gail Gibbons, which will be read to the class and then donated to the school library. Cornell University Cooperative Extension and 4-H is seeking volunteer readers, preferably parents or students, to read the book to elementary students (K-2). Cornell Cooperative Extension is also seeking personal or business sponsors to purchase books for every elementary school and library in Warren County. The cost of each book is $6 and they will be donated to the school’s library after being read. SO. GLENS FALLS – The Parents in Support of the Arts (SPSA) is helping the South Glens Falls Music Department purchase a baby grand piano for the newly renovated High School Auditorium. We have started an “Adopt a Seat” program to let community members “adopt” an auditorium seat for $50 per individual or family and $100 for local businesses and associations. Participants’ names or a short message will be engraved on a metal nameplate to be permanently affixed on the arm of the adopted seat. St. Patrick’s Day is all about the green. While most shades of green are acceptable for St. Patrick’s Day festivities, to be true to the holiday a person should wear the offical green of Ireland. Shamrock green, or Irish green as it’s often called, is a distinct color breakdown and part of the Irish flag and celebration coloring. Another shade of green popular in Ireland is Kelly green. The color gets its name from the surname “Kelly,” which is prevalent on the Emerald Isle. But most have switched to other shades of green, like hunter green, which is a darker shade. Because green is the color of many plants and trees and the most predominant color on the planet, it is often associated with new life, rebirth and well-being. Some say that people who love to wear green have an adventurous streak to them.

Support Program for Grieving Children & Families
SARATOGA SPRINGS – The Community Hospice of Saratoga offers Wave Riders, a six-week support group for children, Grades K-8, who have experienced the death of someone significant in their lives, including a parent, grandparent, sibling or friend. Children meet in age specific groups, sharing thoughts and feelings using art, music, games and discussion. Parent Educational Support Group is offered concurrently. Program begins March 24th and continues for six weeks. The group will be held at The Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs.
