urban landscape housing Since the earliest conceptions of this project, I have been concerned FALL 2015 the user’s path through the site and the unit. For this iteration Madrid, Spain with of the project, I began by creating concept models and diagrams of
abstract paths after reacting to precedent studies by various artists. Translating these diagrams to the site, I let the existing trees dictate the path. Moving to the unit scale, I began to question the nature of the path itself. I chose to bury the services of the unit inside of this path and also used it as a device to divide day activities from night.

The unique social and economic conditions in Japan today lead to more young people living at home longer than in previous FALL 2015 Additionally, the population is aging and more elderly people are moving back in with their adult children. For these Niseko, Japan generations. reasons, the concept of this housing proposal revolves around the idea of creating an apartment within an apartment. The concept of oku was employed to layer spaces around one another. The studio emphasized exploration through detailed models and hand drawing.

loggia house
This conceptual charrette studied the juxtaposition of urban FALL 2015 and natural conditions in New Orleans as well as the vernacular New Orleans, LA architecture of the region. The loggia is an architectural feature
uniquely popular in New Orleans. The various implementations of the loggia were studied and then abstracted as a winding void throughout the unit. The boundary between interior and exterior is blurred, and the vernacular is updated and expanded upon.

museum of ancient life The museum of ancient life centers around an exhibition space containing the skeleton of a T-Rex. Throughout the design process, FALL 2012 fixated on the idea of allowing the geometry of the exhibition space to direct the visitor. This idea evolved into a circular Champaign, IL Iexhibition drum, which became the foundation of the project. As a complement, I divided the building into four separate levels, with one level for each main program. Treatment of the exterior space was also very important to me, and so I created a garden space enclosed by a curved wall, as an exterior reflection of the exhibition drum.

banal
funerary chapel SPRING 2013 The site of this chapel is the final resting place Champaign, IL for people of many different faiths. Therefore,
the chapel must be non-demonational and able to cater to different traditions and ceremonies. My goal was to connect the visitor to nature by allowing in lots natural light. I wanted the chapel to be a powerful and spiritual space, and thus chose noble geometry: an ellipse.

DISINTEGRATION PROCESS 0.5 year
funerary object SPRING 2013
modeling process
For this exercise, we were asked to design a biodegradable urn to be placed in the ground. I wanted to create an urn that would appear contemporary while staying true to tradition. I chose to use a traditional shape molded out of unconventional materials. The disintegration process was important to me, so I chose materials that would decay at different rates, reflecting the stages of loss.
1
urn begins to break apart upon entering the ground. magazine beads wick in water to begin dissolving the plaster and spreading the ashes. magazine beads begin to rot and fall away. year
magazine beads have now completely disappeared and the plaster dissolves more substantially.
5 years
finally, the plaster and magazine beads have entirely disintegrated. all that remains are the wire mesh petals.

The VIA group is a Parisian furniture company. One of the main goals of the company is to find and showcase young design talent, making the exhibition hall and the grand meeting room focal points of the design. The concept of this project was the word elongation. The structure folds in on itself to pull the visitor through the exhibition space. Upon entering the building, the visitor is pulled down a long hallway and up onto a wide ramp. The ramp winds up to the main exhibition space on the second level, and then to the grand meeting room on the third floor.

Occupy movement Casey Ryan Tudor Neagu, Clementine Brisson Agathe Hernard Maeva Tarreau Marine Douchet
The concept of this week-long design workshop was to provide amenities for the protesters involved in the Occupy movement. The design had to be highly efficient, lowimpact and mobile. We learned that the protesters were often denied access to the city’s resources. My group chose to design a kitchen unit that could fold up to be transported on a small truck bed.

PARC BALBI
musicians’ retreat
SPRING 2012 Versailles, France
Parc Balbi. The city of Versailles hosts a Baroque music festival every year, and this center was intended to create a permanent retreat for the musicians invited to the festival. The center provides lodging, practice areas, and a reception space. The site is surrounded on three sides by a 2 meter high wall. To the west sits a beautiful manmade lake, l’Piece d’eau de Suisses. I wanted to create seclusion for the residents while providing views to the surrounding park. To achieve this, I implemented wooden screens to replace the wall to the west as well as in the facades.

travel sketches
travel sketches FALL ‘11-SPING ‘12 European travels
This series of sketches was done during my junior year abroad. I was involved in an intensive sketching course which spanned both semesters. The destinations were unlimited, except for a sanctioned sketch trip at the end of the year. On that trip, I traveled to Mykonos, Santorini, and Athens, Greece. During the Greece trip, the students were encouraged to use new media. I chose to experiment with charcoal and watercolor. These sketches are done in graphite, charcoal, and watercolor.
