January
New year, new adventures. Look to the Caribbean. Clear of hurricanes, the sea is calm and warm, the sun hot yet not scorching, perfect for snorkelling off whitesand cays in Bequia and exploring mighty Mayan wonders such as Xunantunich. On South America’s Pacific coast, it’s hot, dry, and there’s a summer buzz in ports such as Valparaíso in Chile, where the rainbow-bright old quarter was recently listed by UNESCO, while sea lions are breeding on Peru’s Ballestas Islands. Alternatively, look east. Southeast Asia has good weather for everything from lazing on Ko Samui’s palm-lined sands in Thailand to scootering through bustling Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. In the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka is a 2025 hot ticket and the whale sharks have arrived in the Maldives’ underwater utopia.

February
St. Valentine passion fills the air in the romantic sugar-sand isles of the Philippines, such as beautiful Boracay. Singapore is driest now, with plenty of nature to explore in one of the region’s greenest cities. On the main Japanese islands, crisper weather and lower visitor numbers make it a pleasure to explore marvels such as 17th-century Kochi Castle and the dynamic capital, Tokyo. While in South Korea, it’s brisk but dry in the bustling city of Busan – find out why this country has gained such popularity for its fashion, food, and culture. Over in South America, life’s all about the beach at Balneário Camboriú and Rio de Janeiro is all about carnival at this time of year as it erupts in a frenzy of sequins and hip-shimmies.

Seasons are shifting in March. Monsoons are yet to sweep through Asia, so Malaysia and Thailand are irresistible: in Penang, come face to face with orangutans; in Phuket, learn to cook mouthwatering dishes in this UNESCO City of Gastronomy. India is ideal now: dry, hot, and fun-filled as Holi, festival of colours, love, and spring, explodes mid-month. Fascinating ports in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and beyond combine India’s soul-lifting vim with real-life insights. Spring is nibbling at Europe’s southern fringes, a sublime time to stroll the Canary Islands’ whitewashed plazas. Close by, Morocco offers an exotic mix of muezzin calls, rich tagines, and elegant riads. Fall approaches in South Africa and as the bush dies back in game reserves, lion, elephant, and rhino are easier to spot.

17 NIGHTS | MAR 5 – 22, 2025
This exciting journey crosses from the east coast of South America to the seas off the west coast of Africa. Our voyage begins with a suitably celebratory overnight stay in Rio de Janeiro just as the world-famous Carnival takes over this effervescent city. If you danced til dawn, you'll be thankful to spend two relaxing days at sea while we sail north. Our first ports of call are Ilhéus and Salvador de Bahia, a former colonial capital of the Portuguese. Next stop Recife for more carnival culture and colonial history, then it's time to relax onboard again while we travel across the Atlantic to Santiago and São Vincente, two of the Cape Verde Islands. Three final days at sea will leave you feeling rested and ready to disembark and explore the Canary Islands.

Four days in Spain's Canary Islands open this voyage via Africa to the capital of Portugal. Departing Gran Canaria, we spend two days in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the ideal opportunity to visit San Cristóbal de La Laguna, recognized by UNESCO for its architectural riches, before heading to Lanzarote to admire the striking volcanic landscape. Next, we switch continents to Africa and call by Morocco, where Agadir's history absorbs and Casablanca's jumble of streets and markets invigorate. Returning to Europe, we reach Portimão on Portugal's Algarve for an irresistible chance to sunbathe on its long stretches of sand. An overnight stay in Lisbon marks the end of our voyage, with plenty of time to sample the city's old-world charm – as well as its delicious custard tarts.

April
April is an incredible time to explore worldwide, but especially for an odyssey in the Eastern Mediterranean – the region’s awe-inspiring archaeology is best seen in these gentler temperatures. In Istanbul, there will be fewer tourists to get in shot accidentally on a street photography tour. In Greece, a week of celebrations culminates in Orthodox Easter and colourful processions. To escape the crowds, opt for Africa's lesser-travelled west coast, including the wild Namib desert in Namibia, to kayak with curious Cape fur seals and fly across apricot dunes. In Angola, explore the country’s complex colonial history, and, on the pristine isles of São Tomé & Príncipe, marvel at the untamable rainforest, crashing waterfalls, and Portuguese fortresses.

Next, we travel along the coast to Çanakkale, the gateway to ancient Troy, then sample the exciting culinary offerings of Thessaloniki in mainland Greece. As we travel along the shores of Greece, we encounter Volos, at the foot of Mount Pelion, the starting point for the mythological journey of Jason and the Argonauts. Embark on a voyage that calls at some of the Mediterranean’s most intriguing island destinations. This odyssey begins in the cosmopolitan city of Marseille in France, before sailing to the citadel of Calvi in Corsica, which claims Christopher Columbus as a son. Set sail across Europe while days are at their longest. It’s a magical time in the Mediterranean, where sun-drenched squares from Málaga to Dubrovnik bubble with latenight bonhomie. But go north, too. At Europe’s Atlantic edge, see whales and dolphins cavort in the Bay of Biscay, visit intoxicating Bordeaux, hemmed by supreme vineyards such as Saint-Émilion, and see the petite Channel Island of Guernsey, a charming segue between Gallic and English worlds. July
July fizzes with energy across the Northern Hemisphere, palpably in Scandinavia and around the Baltic Sea, where days are long and temperatures high. In Sweden and Finland’s capitals, Stockholm and Helsinki, the sun barely sets – a much-loved period called the “white nights” when people stay out late to embrace the near-endless sunshine. It’s also a fine time to weave through the fairytale old towns in Tallinn and Riga and visit the bewitching forests of Estonia’s Lahemaa National Park or Sigulda, “Latvian Switzerland”. Copenhagen in Denmark offers acclaimed Nordic cuisine, in Oslo Norwegians are swimming in the fjords. Further south, Italy’s west coast –Portofino, Amalfi, Capri – is a classic summer fantasy of hot blue sky and glittering sea.

August
In Europe, August pulls no punches: peak temperatures for peak season. Escape both heat and crowds in the Orkneys to see the Ring of Brodgar standing stones, one of world’s finest Neolithic sites, while Viking tales ripple through the bustling harbour of Lerwick in Shetland. Vàgar, in the Faroe Islands, offers the vision of Múlafossur waterfall plummeting into the sea, and Iceland ups the drama with hiking, biking, and kayaking amid mud pools, waterfalls, and geysers. Cooler still is remote Svalbard; now is when the ice melts briefly, the only time ships can fully explore here. See tundra rampant with wildflowers, and glaciers spilling into the sea. Alternatively, the Greek islands are in full summer swing, the heat tempered by sweet sea breezes, vine-shaded tavernas, and chilled retsina.

Mark the change of season with a fresh experience. Like Greenland, at the cusp of the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. It’s starting to cool for winter, but in Qaqortoq milder temperatures persist. Seek out Inuit culture, Viking ruins, and whaling history amid snowy summits, creaking glaciers, and steaming springs. Across Atlantic Canada, humidity drops and the light softens, enhancing show-stopping sights such as the boulder-balanced lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove. In Nova Scotia, the vineyards are ready for harvest in the Annapolis Valley and it’s time for a hike in Newfoundland’s Gros Morne National Park, where plate tectonics lie exposed. Meanwhile, in Spain’s sultry south, ever-radiant hotspots such as Málaga still hit temperature highs.

Autumn has firmly taken hold in the forests of eastern Canada and New England, with a striking palette of burnt orange, lipstick crimson, and liquid gold smeared across the river valleys and mountain slopes. But such splendour isn’t confined to the countryside; in Boston, New York, and Québec City the vast parks and leafy riverbanks flush with flaming trees. In Europe, an honourable mention must be made for Rome. October is something special here and the Romans even have a term for it: Ottobrata Romana. It’s still warm enough to lounge in piazzas with Aperol spritzes, wearing no more than a light sweater. Indeed, this is a comfortable and quieter time for exploring the capital's unrivalled sites, as well as the vast archaeological riches of Pompeii, just down the coast.

Now Charlottetown comes into view, famous as the setting of the book Anne of Green Gables, before we disembark in Québec City.

November has a split personality: as parts of the planet start to hunker down for winter, others blossom. Hurricane season is over in the Caribbean, flinging wide the porthole for multi-island exploration. Reggae is the soundtrack to adventures in Jamaica, such as hand-feeding hummingbirds, while Puerto Rico will be in full party mode – it has the world’s longest holiday season, with la Navidad celebrations starting right after Thanksgiving until mid-January. Wild Dominica is a natural playground, little Montserrat a modern-day Pompeii – every island has a different tale to tell. Meanwhile, in the Middle East, sweltering summer is mellowing in northern Egypt and southern Jordan, good for visiting the Pyramids of Giza, and the rock-hewn city of Petra.
