Beach Palooza 2017 Recap Saturday, August 12, 2017, marked the fourth annual palooza! It was a day full of fun and excitement as the five divisions: Crystal, Diamond, Goldstone, Jet, and Turquoise interacted in various activities. The event was initiated by the beach cleanup scavenger hunt, where members were randomly separated into different teams in order to find trash items listed on the list. This method allowed CNH KIWIN’S to contribute to environmental cleanliness and allowed members to build interdivisional relationships. Other activities throughout the day include, spending time with each other inside the chilled-temperature of the beach, participating in various ice breakers, and passionately cheering for the spirit stick. (Props to Turquoise Division for winning the spirit stick! N-I-C-E NICE!) Ultimately, this was the first event that allowed exposure for members across divisions to meet each other and grow stronger as the CNH KIWIN’S ohana. We felt good, Oh we felt so good!

LA Kiwanis Centennial Dinner & August DCM

Members from each school within Crystal participated in Los Angeles Kiwanis Club’s 100th year celebration at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel! The night was filled with nostalgic memories of the past years of the club’s volunteering and activity. The student members were able to meet multiple groups within the K-Family Spectrum. The CNH KIWIN’S members interacted with Kiwanis members, Key Clubbers, and Circle K representatives. This interaction allowed the members to obtain greater exposure to how big the K-Family stretches. It was a very exciting and enjoyable night for all of the members. Crystal Division appreciates the service that LA Kiwanis has provided and Crystal is more than grateful to have been able to attend this special and prideful event. After the Centennial Dinner, Crystal was able to hold a short DCM in order to update members of upcoming events and to recap past events.

SERVICE PROJECTS OF THE MONTH: Culver City Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast

Members from LACES, Palisades, and Fairfax High School participated in the Culver City Kiwanis Project of the Month. The event took place at Fiesta La Ballona in Veteran’s Park. From 8 AM to 12 PM each school went around the park advertising the pancakes with posters they made. They even held the signs in front of cars to catch people’s attention! Then, the students walked back to the venue to serve food such as bacon, pancakes, fruits, and drinks or make more pancake batter. At the end, we took time to help clean up the venue and talk to other Kiwanis members while cleaning the dishes or take cooking utensils back to the car. Crystal Division thanks Culver City Kiwanis for providing our Crystal members with an enjoyable event to partake.

SERVICE PROJECT OF THE MONTH

#

Lunch Bag

This month on August 27, Palisades KIWIN'S attended a HashtagLunchbag event at The Parlor in Los Angeles. HashtagLunchbag is an organization that travels all over the country to make lunches for people in need. More than 50 people from all over LA came out to make sandwiches, write notes, and design bags. That day we were all able to make 1,500 lunches for the homeless people that live in Skid Row. It was an amazing event that Palisades KIWIN'S can't wait to attend again.

Crystal Division’s Officer Training Conference The Officer’s Training Conference is an opportunity for all members and officers to further explore the responsibilities and duties of their position or the position that they are interested in. KIWIN’S, at first glance, does seem kind of funky and confusing, but NO WORRIES--we got you covered! At OTC you will have a greater understanding of our Ohana system and the roles that you play in it! WAIT, there’s more you say? AT OTC, you will be able to bond with your Crystal Ohana and potentially some special guests in some icebreakers, creative workshops, games, and info sessions. DON’T MISS THIS CHANCE! OTC is mandatory for all officers, but not limited to officers. It is strongly recommended that members attend this event if they are planning or hoping to run for club executive board next year. Every opportunity is a learning experience and this event will definitely allow individuals to further grow in leadership, as well as responsibilities. Event Information Location: Fairfax High School Date: September 9 (SAVE THE DATE) Time: TBD
