WHATHIGHLIGHTS IS KIWIN’S? MONTHLY PALISADES PACIFIC PALISADES AMERICANISM PARADE:
At Sunset Blvd on Fourth of July, Palisades KIWIN'S was screaming "How do you feel?" cheers and also "Happy Fourth" to all of the Pacific Palisades community at the 70th Annual Pacific Palisades Americanism Parade. We weren't alone either, Santa Monica Kiwanis and UCLA Circle K help make this year 4th of July parade fun, spirited, and patriotic. “I thought it was a memorable experience because we were able to illustrate our appreciation to our community that has supported our KIWIN’S club throughout several terms.” -Wendy Cano, Palisades Vice President
FAIRFAX SPRUCE IT UP AT TREEPEOPLE PARK:
Fairfax KIWIN’S was able to join the volunteers of TreePeople Park in maintaining the small amphitheater in TreePeople Park. The park depends on volunteers to keep it a suitable environment for park activities. Our KIWINers scattered mulch and flattened the ground to prepare the amphitheater for a performance that would be going on the next day. “"Spruce It Up was such a fun and new event. I loved getting to be outdoors and serve my environment on a nice, sunny day!” -Damaris Arteaga, Fairfax Membership Chair
LACES SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK ROUND 2:
LACES KIWIN'S volunteered at the Old Zoo at Griffith Park to help the Independent Shakespeare Co. with their first performance of Titus Andronicus! It was a blast setting up the chairs for viewers, the concession stand, and the welcoming table. We, alongside Fairfax KIWIN'S, welcomed people and later joined the viewers to enjoy a fantastic show.

“I really enjoyed helping set up for the show because everyone participating had a common love for Shakespeare. You could tell everyone was excited to be there and it was nice to get out in nature and watch a play.” - Grace Kim, LACES President
CRANIOFACIAL PICNIC RECAP
July 28, 2018 UCLA Craniofacial Picninc “The laughs. The smiles. The joy. These were the main factors of Saturday’s Craniofacial Picnic, and they were simply astonishing. Being able to spend my afternoon volunteering at this event really made me realize how much happiness I can bring into someone’s life---even if that means dancing like there’s no tomorrow. Now, at first, I did not know what to expect from this event. I assumed I would be sitting down organizing papers and cleaning up after others; oh boy, was I wrong! Once I stepped onto the green, vivid grass I knew the day was going to be filled with enthusiasm and love. From the start of my shift to the end of it, I was surrounded by an enormous amount of energy and enthusiasm and happiness, all which were radiating from multiple kids and their families. Because of the amazing face paint and balloon animals and delicious ice cream, I know that this day will be memorable for every person in attendance. The afternoon I spent at UCLA will be one of the most memorable times in my KIWIN’S journey, not only because of the smiles I saw or the fun games I played, but because of the people I was able to meet. I was given the opportunity to work with members of Circle K, Kiwanis, and Key Club, which was absolutely amazing! Service events are meant to bring people closer together to make a change, and I confidently say that this was one of those events. ”
-- Wendy Cano, Palisades KIWIN’S Vice President

SHAKESPEARE RECAP
July 15, 2018 Shakespeare in the Park “A Midsummer Night's Dream performance had small children in fairy costumes running around angelically and picnic blankets and baskets set down, filling the large grassy area. It was a joyful experience to be greeting the thriving community and enjoying the beautiful, historic work of Shakespeare modified for our modern tastes. Volunteers are part of what allows this great part of our community to continue and thrive, and being a part of helping this culture continue was a beautiful experience.” -- Jiho Kim, Fairfax KIWIN’S President
