JUNE EVENTS RECAP

Crystal Banquet & June DCM June 9th, 2019 | Elks Lodge | 5 - 8 pm

“This year was the first time I went to the Crystal Banquet, and it was truly an amazing experience. Our Lt. G, Alexandra Aladham, led the proceedings for the Banquet that night. We had fun activities such as ice breakers and special shout-outs where all of the Crystal members got a chance to show their KIWIN’S spirit. After dinner, we heard speeches from our IP Lt. G Mina Choi and graduating seniors Benny Chung and Richard Jang, and finally, our Lt. G Alexandra Aladham. It was an emotional experience hearing the seniors recall their best memories from KIWIN’S and say their final goodbyes. As we wrapped up the speeches with a Lt. G gift exchange and a surprise gift for Mina, we made sure to take lots of pictures. Although the banquet ended a bit early, our fun photoshoots didn’t end until past 8! It was so fun participating in such a great bonding experience with all of my fellow Crystal Polar Bears. I am so glad I got to attend, and I’ll be looking forward to the next one!” — Eulmin Park, Fairfax HS KIWIN’S Historian & Divisional Bulletin Editor

JUNE EVENTS RECAP

2019 Angel City Games

June 22nd | UCLA | 7:30 am - 12:30 pm

“Despite having to wake up very early in the morning to arrive at the Angel City Games, this event by far has been one of the most enjoyable events I’ve attended this year. When we first arrived at the event after signing in, one of the head volunteers assigned us to help cheer on the athletes who participated in the running competition before our shift at 9:30 am. I was more than happy to support the children by cheering them on, so I was quite excited to be in the stands; screaming compliment chants and clapping. It felt very reassuring to encourage them to push on and never give up in the competition. Once our 9:30 am shift began, we were assigned to booths for the children to play at as soon as they walked in. I was specifically assigned the booth “Knock it out”; a game where there were five floating balls, and those who played had to knock out two of them in order to earn a ticket. For some reason, the booth quickly drew in many kids and adults and soon enough, we had a line of children wanting to play. There were a few who kept returning, their determination to earn the tickets put a huge smile on my face and before I knew it, I was laughing and having a great time helping them earn some tickets to exchange for prizes. My partner, Eulmin, and I exchanged booths after a couple hours passed to a booth involving rubber chickens, a catapult, and a bucket. Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces as the day passed made it satisfying to work. I was delighted to have had the opportunity to volunteer at this event during 2019, and if I have the opportunity to join again next year, I would be extremely thrilled to!”

JUNE EVENTS RECAP

ft. UCLA Circle K & Division 19N Key Club

UCLA Circle K Joint Board Retreat June 2nd | UCLA | 9 am - 3 pm

“I thought the UCLA Circle K Board Retreat was an amazing opportunity for college students to help us tackle the incoming term by teaching us some tips on how to better manage our positions. It was really fun getting to know each other through ice breakers and bonding during lunch, which was a giant pizza. As well as KIWIN’S tips, they also shared some valuable information on what college life is like and it is definitely going to make the transition to college less daunting. The added touch of holding different workshops specific to certain jobs and tasks was super informative as well as entertaining. I cannot wait for the coming term, as well as joining Circle K post High School. ” — Mark Barboza, Palisades Charter HS KIWIN’S Vice President & Divisional Spirit Committee Member
