THE MAGIK 7
1. What type of medium do you work with and explain how you use it? (Paint, design, photography, collage) Mostly I work with mixed media. It depends on what type of work I want to do. Since I started I have a graphic tablet I’m still using. I couldn’t live without it. It gives me kind of freedom of creation. I use every kind of software or whatever that helps me out doing what I want to do.
and get inspired from them. I learned a lot from Yannick Dussos’ workshop, his work inspires me, but the most inspiring thing to me is my life itself. 7. How do you see yourself five years from now? How do you see your artwork evolving from now? Really, I have no idea. Maybe I will study maybe still working for a company or maybe just doing my own thing.. I don’t know.. I wanna go study in about a year at film school in Vancouver or somewhere. I wish to work in the Film industry sometime.. Visual effects or so... game industry is also interesting...
2. What was your main interest in producing this artwork, or is there a statement you wanted to convey? My work most have personal meanings. They are like a diary to me... Every picture tells me a part of my life... 3. Tell us about your creative process, do you have any rituals, routines you follow? How does your artwork come together? (Do you use found objects, image banks, etc) Its always a creative process. When I create my artworks I already know what type I’m going to do. I mean which style I will go with, which media I will use etc. Then I get a basic idea in my head. It’s just a simple abstract idea that grows while I’m working on it. I start working out the main idea on the picture first. Everything else is detail and I don’t worry about what they’re gonna be at this time, so I try to solve my main idea in the way it comes best. After I have my basic colors set and basic composition worked out, it’s just detailing and fun..
4. How did you get started with your artistic career? I just started by myself... just wanted to do such things and then I get into it.. I never finished any education so far... 5. What would you say is one of your greatest accomplishments? Really hard to say. I think it will be my next book that I’m going to do in the end of 2007 with all the new paintings from 2006/2007...but I don’t really dig any of my artwork because I did them.. The thing is that you will never get that feeling watching your artworks that you have while watching other peoples artwork. 6. Where does your inspiration come from? Or is there any particular movement, artwork or artist you find yourself influenced by? Nature is a powerful inspiration, dreams and the whole world itself. The never ending universe, etc. Everything can be inspiring. Sure I also check out other people’s work

1. What type of medium do you work with and explain how you use it? (Paint, design, photography, collage) I am a painter, I like to work with strong contrasts, mostly chiaroscuro. I began with the series “Calla”, in which the union of two different halves of two bodies created a new one. 2. What was your main interest in producing this artwork, or is there a statement you wanted to convey? Since I began my studies, my main objective has been to embrace and to attack the topic of the social stereotypes. This topic affects me personally because ever since I was a child, I have struggled with my weight and have been judged and sometimes rejected by others. I would like to clarify that my goal is not one that everyone becomes fat, not at all. My goal is that people first respect themselves as well as respect others and accept all kinds of people in the world.
More than influence, I am inspired by artists such as Jenny Saville, Lucian Freíd, Norman Rockwell, Odd Nerdrum, Gottfried Helnwein, Ana Mandieta, Rembrandt, John Currin, Rodin, Michelangelo, the strength of Silvano Lora, Adela Dore, Helmut Newton, Gerard Ellis, Jose Garcia Cordero, Eleomar Puente, Gustavo Acosta, and Raquel Paiewonsky. Such artists take me aback. 7. How do you see yourself five years from now? How do you see your artwork evolving from now? Regularly, when you are 21 years old, you are a dreamer. I am not the only one. I am beginning to place my feet on the ground on some level, but from now until 5 years from now I see myself improving and being a much better artist than I am presently, with open doors and without the monetary restrictions to carry out any project.
3. Tell us about your creative process, do you have any rituals, routines you follow? How does your artwork come together? (Do you use found objects, image banks, etc) I always begin with research. I write an essay of what I want to convey, I read articles about it, take test images of possible ‘models’ and I finish gathering a series of information that support my ideas. I believe firmly that without the research, I would have nothing, it is my base, without it, the painting is meaningless.
4. How did you get started with your artistic career? I had always been interested in the arts, in fact, I was especially drawn to Literature. When I went on an exchange course to Italy and I stood in front of Michelangelo’s La Pietá, I knew that art was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. 5. What would you say is one of your greatest accomplishments? I would say that I have overcome my insecurities, improved my technique and my way of thinking has matured. I am proud of that. 6. Where does your inspiration come from? Or is there any particular movement, artwork or artist you find yourself influenced by? My inspiration comes from wanting to create, to shake things up a little, and change the world’s perception. The rejection I have experienced from society as I perceive it, I fight back as to let people like myself know that they are not alone, to create a consciousness of respect and to overcome obstacles.
