COMMUNITY IMPACT REPORT

Senior Celebration at the F&M Trolley Barn, May 2023

A DECADE OF IMPACT Together

First and foremost, our sincere thanks go to our sustaining partners: Goodwill Industries of NWNC, F&M Bank, and Alice & Fred Stanback. Their steadfast commitment has been instrumental in nurturing a college-going culture and ensuring the success of Crosby Scholars. Their vision and generosity have paved the way for countless students to pursue higher education and achieve their dreams. We extend gratitude to our many local donors, whose contributions have played a vital role in sustaining our programs and equipping students to reach their full potential. Your belief in the transformative power of post-secondary education has made a lasting impact on the lives of many. A special acknowledgment is due to each of our dedicated staff members and Board of Directors from the past decade, whose tireless efforts and leadership have guided Crosby Scholars through 10 years of growth and success. Their commitment to our mission is truly commendable.

We would also like to recognize our community partners, Rowan-Salisbury Schools, local colleges, volunteers, and, of course, our students and families. Your collaborative spirit, support, and active participation have fostered an environment where educational aspirations thrive. As we approach a new decade, let us carry forward the spirit of gratitude and partnership that has defined Crosby Scholars' journey. Here's to the past ten years of success and many more years of empowering students to pursue their dreams through education.

Crosby Scholars made my college and career dreams a reality. The Program gave me confidence in how I approached my transition to being a college student. Class of 2023 SRHS Alum

WHY CROSBY SCHOLARS matters As we reflect on the past ten years of the Rowan County Crosby Scholars Community Partnership, it becomes evident that the program has played a pivotal role in transforming the lives of countless students, shaping their trajectories toward successful college admission and beyond. To our cherished donors, whose steadfast support has been the bedrock of this initiative, we express our heartfelt gratitude as we delve into the compelling statistics and stories that underscore the profound impact and significance of Crosby Scholars. A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO COLLEGE ACCESS Since its inception in 2013, Crosby Scholars has been dedicated to preparing students not only academically but also financially and personally for the challenges of higher education. This commitment to a holistic approach sets the program apart, providing comprehensive support that extends beyond traditional academic realms. REACHING EVERY CORNER Crosby Scholars is available in 8 middle schools and 9 high schools within Rowan County, ensuring that its impact is far-reaching and inclusive. This widespread availability has allowed the program to touch the lives of a diverse range of students, making higher education a tangible and attainable goal for all.

TOP-TIER INSTITUTIONS AND COMMUNITY IMPACT Crosby Scholars’ alumni have gone on to contribute significantly to the higher education landscape, with attendance at esteemed institutions such as RowanCabarrus Community College, Catawba College, Livingstone College, UNC Greensboro, UNC Charlotte, UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Wilmington, Western Carolina University, Appalachian State University, North Carolina State University, and East Carolina University. The program's impact extends beyond the classroom, with scholars reporting over 106,381 hours of community service. INVESTING IN THE FUTURE The generosity of our donors has been instrumental in shaping the futures of Crosby Scholars. The program has awarded $236,300 in donor-funded scholarships, ensuring that financial barriers are not impediments to academic success. Additionally, over 1,090 needbased Last Dollar Grants totaling $1,089,900 have been distributed, further emphasizing the commitment to making education accessible for all.

TURNING DREAMS INTO GRADUATES Over the past decade, Crosby Scholars has witnessed 1,418 graduates, each one a success story in their own right. Among them, 211 graduates earned the prestigious title of “Gwin Barr All Stars” for completing all program requirements from 6th to 12th grade, showcasing their unwavering commitment to personal growth and academic excellence. EMPOWERING FIRST-GENERATION SCHOLARS Of those reporting, 38% of graduating seniors are firstgeneration students. The journey to higher education represents a groundbreaking achievement as they become the first in their families to attend college. This statistic underscores the program's commitment to breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for those who might not have envisioned a college education as part of their future.

A FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESS Crosby Scholars' dedication to personal development is evident in its various academies, covering topics such as Learning Styles, Tearing Off Labels, College & Career Exploration, Financial Literacy, Time Management, and ACT/SAT Test Preparation. These initiatives provide scholars with the skills and knowledge they need to navigate the complexities of both academia and life beyond.

As we reflect on a decade of impact, Crosby Scholars has not only transformed the educational landscape of Rowan County but has also planted seeds of potential, ensuring a brighter and more promising future for all the students it serves. Your continued support is not just an investment in a program; it is an investment in the dreams, aspirations, and success stories of countless young minds. Together, we have made a difference, and with your continued support, Crosby Scholars will continue to be a beacon of hope, opportunity, and excellence for generations to come.

As a first-generation college student, Crosby Scholars has opened a world of opportunities for me and helped my college dreams become a reality. Crosby Alumni
