This is the For Life Pathway meeting outline. Use this outline to guide your conversation in your initial meeting with the scholar. Keep for your records. After the meeting, submit Conference Notes 1 form to confirm the scholar has fulfilled this requirement. The digital version of this outline displays in the advisor portal and provides the most current information

MEETING OUTLINE BY TOPIC GOAL

Confirm High School Enrollment and Graduation Date

Remind the scholar the Senior Program is Portal driven. Login to the Crosby Scholars Student Portal. Advisor's Role

Complete Think Like a Senior (TLS) Requirement

Review Senior Program requirements listed on the back of the Crosby Scholars Senior Program Roadmap

To have accurate data. Advisor reports school enrollment and projected graduation date on the Conference Notes 1 Form. Scholar edits the Crosby Scholars Student Portal. Review plans if the scholar is graduating early and confirm scholar is enrolled in the courses needed to fulfill graduation requirements.

To confirm that scholar and parent contact information is accurate. The scholar's email address displayed in the portal should be the email address the scholar checks most often. Place an emphasis on Parent 1 - They will be copied on emails. Ask scholar if they need assistance navigating the Portal. Share the Student Portal Guide with them.

To confirm the post-secondary plan the scholar indicated on the advisor form is correct. To help the scholar engage with and realize the full benefits of meeting with a Crosby Scholars Advisor. Help the scholar identify ways the advisor can assist them with their individual needs. Contact the advising program if the scholar's post-secondary plan now includes 4-year colleges.

To confirm a plan to complete this Junior Program requirement. Juniors must attend one For Life Pathway TLS. During TLS, juniors will review postsecondary pathways that suit their goals and preferences. Dates are displayed in the Crosby student portal.

To develop a plan to fulfill Senior Program requirements. Help your scholar to know the Senior Program requirements for the For Life Pathway and how to request exemption from the requirements that do not support this pathway. Guide seniors through the challenges and celebrations from spring of the junior year through graduation.

Communicating with the Senior Program

Discuss school-based ACT

To review the ways the Senior Program shares information with scholars and families. Communication methods include email and text messages, the student portal, the Crosby Scholars website, and monthly newsletters. Remind scholars they are encouraged to contact the Senior Program and Advising Teams via email and phone calls.

To ensure the scholar knows how to prepare for the ACT that is administered to all juniors in North Carolina. Discuss the value of taking this test even though they are not planning to enroll at a 4-year college directly after high school.

To confirm scholar knows their GPA and continues to progress successfully toward high school graduation. Review senior year courses and confirm scholar will meet all graduation requirements

To review the post-secondary plan. To help the scholar engage with and realize the full benefits of meeting with a Crosby Scholars Advisor Help the scholar identify ways the advisor can connect them to community resources and support their post-secondary pathway

To assist scholars in proactively deciding which Senior Academies will be the most helpful for them to attend. To explore with students which pathway best reflects their needs and to remind them that they are required to attend one academy and are encouraged to attend all academies they believe will benefit them. Often times it can be very helpful for a scholar to attend academies over the summer when they tend to have fewer commitments.

Review Community Service Status

Rising Senior Summer

To assist scholar with fulfilling the community service requirement and identifying volunteer opportunities as needed. If scholar has volunteered for at least 4 hours, have scholar submit the community service form during your meeting Assist the scholar with identifying ways to fulfill the community service requirement both virtually and in-person

To encourage scholar to fully utilize the summer prior to their senior year for their benefit and also to meet Crosby program requirements: volunteer --> CS requirement visit schools / job sites / training facilities --> CF/CV requirement webinars --> SR Academy requirement

To assist scholars in proactively deciding which Senior Academies will be the most helpful for them to attend. (Review the academy offerings and explore creative ways to fulfill this requirement.) Often times it can be very helpful for a scholar to attend academies over the summer when they tend to have fewer commitments. FLP Senior Academies begin in Junescholars must read their email to learn details of FLP senior academies.

Rising Senior Summer

To confirm scholar's most recent activities and awards are displayed on their resume. The resume can be used when asking for letters of recommendation, when applying and interviewing for a job, when meeting with a military recruiter, and when applying to a certificate or diploma program.

To confirm scholar fully utilizes the rising senior summertime to ease the stress and pressure in the fall while pursuing their post-secondary plan Review what preparation can be completed this summer which may include fulfilling community service requirement, exploring the different branches of the military, meeting with a military recruiter, meeting with CDC counselor at your school, researching CTE programs at FTCC and other community colleges, taking the ASVAB, researching GAP year programs, take assessments, etc. Encourage scholar to remain engaged with you as the Crosby Advisor, continue to read Program email and newsletters, and to fulfill program requirements

To review the post-secondary plan. To help scholars create a timeline and the next steps needed to meet their post-secondary goals. This can include identifying certification/licensing exams, funding sources, enrollment/application requirements, and more.

To figure out where to find career satisfaction, scholars need all the facts about their skills and interests, the world of work, and their postsecondary options to make informed decisions. The ASVAB Career Exploration Program is free of charge and includes a validated aptitude test and interest assessment. Taking the ASVAB fulfills the senior academy requirement.

To ensure scholar knows their GPA and understands their academic profile. Review the transcript record report provided by the Program. Scholars should note their cumulative GPA and courses taken to ensure they are meeting graduation requirements.

Take a FREE Assessment like the ASVAB, FTCC’s Career Interest Assessment, Naviance SelfDiscovery Assessments

To help scholars learn the value of using their Student Naviance account. To get started with community/junior college applications and request transcripts and teacher letters of recommendation, explore military service options, career ed or trade schools, apprenticeship programs, employment, and gap or service year programs. Access the reference guide here.

Request and then review your high school transcript

Confirm Graduation Date

Review deadlines for upcoming Senior Program Requirements

To confirm the high school transcript is accurate. By reviewing the high school transcript, the scholar will see the information that will be shared with potential employers, community/junior college reps, military recruiters, and gap year programs

To confirm the graduation date. We first asked scholars this question on CN 1 last February. By October, seniors have met with their school counselor and we find that many scholars finalize their graduation date during this meeting. Therefore, we ask the scholars for the second and final time to confirm their graduation date with their Crosby Scholars Advisor.

To complete Senior Program requirements.

The deadline to submit a community service form is January 31

The deadline to fulfill the Senior Academy requirement is December 1

The deadline to submit the college fair/visit form is December 1
