HLMS August Newsletter What is HLMS? HLMS stands for Hispanic Latino Male Success. It is a program within Crosby Scholars that seeks to help it's Hispanic/Latino male students (6th-12th) be successful in school and their community. *We’re particularly seeking to work with the following middle/high schools: Philo, Carter G. Woodson, Northwest, Flat Rock, Mineral Springs, North Forsyth, Carver, and Parkland. Nevertheless, any Hispanic/Latino male who is a Crosby Scholar from another WSFC public school is welcome to attend any of the events (Except Lunch & Learns).
Main goals of HLMS: - Help Hispanic/Latino males complete the Crosby Scholars program - Inspire students to be successful in their future careers - Help with the college application process - Engage in fellowship with other Hispanic students and professionals in other careers

Hello Everyone!! Hola a todos!! I hope everyone has had a good restful summer!! Whether that was working, attending camps, doing community service, doing chores around the house, or simply just chilling playing video games, I hope that the break from school served you well!! I am excited to restart this new HLMS program with you guys in the new academic school year. We have lots of fun activities and events planned for you all. I hope many of you will take the time to come out and really benefit from the resources, connections, and learning opportunities we will be offering to our Hispanic/Latino males in Crosby. In this month's newsletter you will have a brief explanation of what HLMS does, list of events for the month, reminders of Crosby Requirements, and videos for your own personal enrichment as you prepare for the new school year!! Again I am here to help in any way that I can. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out! I hope you all have a great start to the new school year!!

College Tours It is never too early to begin college touring! Remember that all high school students must attend a college fair or visit at least four colleges by their senior year! Here is the contact information of the admissions teams for some NC schools that you may be interested in attending! You can call and schedule for a tour or ask for more information about the school!

6th-10th Remember your two requirements for the upcoming year: minimum of 2 hours of community service hours and attend one academy: Academy season starts around October. Please be on the lookout for more information regarding this requirement. Catch Crosby Scholars at your school's open house this August!
Seniors
Juniors Rising Juniors: Make sure to Take ACT/SAT this upcoming school year and begin college touring - If you have visited four colleges, here is the link of the form to submit 2 hours of community service (5 Recommended) by January of Senior year
Senior Academies have already begun! Check your Crosby portal to view upcoming academies and complete your requirements! Seniors: Remember to retake ACT/SAT (if you planned to) as soon as possible to be ready for college applications Seniors: make sure to also check up with your advisors and complete your conference notes! They are here to answer any questions you my have about college so please make sure to take advantage of those meetings! Check your school email if you haven't met with them already, they have probably been trying to contact you!!

About Me Carlos Mata I was born in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico but mainly grew up here in WinstonSalem. I went to school at Jefferson Middle and the Early College of Forsyth. I got my Bachelor’s degree in Theology from Belmont Abbey College here in NC and I’m in the process of getting my MA in Theology online from the University of Notre Dame. Go Irish! I have mainly been working in Education at private schools for the past three years and have decided to come back home and help the local community. I am excited to work with Crosby Scholars as the new HLMS specialist! My hobbies include playing, watching, and commenting on soccer; boxing, reading, and watching marvel movies!
