What is the Crosby Scholars Finish the FAFSA Agreement? Parents, if you have logged into your Crosby Scholars Student Portal recently, you may have noticed a new pop-up box asking you to provide your consent for the Crosby Scholars Finish the FAFSA Agreement. What is Crosby Scholars Finish the FAFSA Agreement and why is it important? Crosby Scholars Finish the FAFSA Agreement allows Crosby Scholars Financial Aid Coordinator to provide support to students and families who need help submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, during their senior year in high school. The Finish the FAFSA Agreement DOES NOT disclose any personal financial information. The Finish the FAFSA Agreement does not disclose any information on family or student income, citizenship information, social security numbers or any other personally identifiable information. The Finish the FAFSA Agreement data is not used for any purpose other than to offer students assistance with FAFSA completion. The Finish the FAFSA data will not be used to identify your student in any way. Crosby Scholars Financial Aid Coordinator will only be able to confirm if your student has submitted and signed their FAFSA form, or if they have been selected for an additional FAFSA screening process called Verification. Crosby Scholars Financial Aid Coordinator will then contact your or your student to offer assistance with completion. Submitting a FAFSA is a critical step toward creating a financial plan for college. The Finish the FAFSA Agreement allows Crosby Scholars Financial Aid Coordinator to provide one-on-one professional Financial Aid support to your family. Let us help you create your plan to pay for college by answering 'Yes' to the Finish the FAFSA Agreement inside your Crosby Scholars Parent Portal today. How to prepare for college in May

1) Strengthen your Extracurriculars/Activities Resume!

Apply HERE to be a part of the Youth Grantmakers in Action! Application is due Wednesday, May 18. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain leadership experience and let your voice, opinions, and values be heard! 2) Focus on Junior GPA + Grades

Don't forget that your Junior year grades are the LAST grades college will be able to see on your transcript when you apply to college next Fall. Give your final exams all your best so that you can go into the college application process in the best spot you can be! Try out the Pomodoro study method!

1. Choose one topic or class you will study for and decide how long you will need to study 2. Set a timer for 25 minutes and begin studying (Check out the website Pomodor for a pre-set timer!) 3. Make sure to minimize all distractions for those 25 minutes 4. After the 25 minutes is up, take a 5 minute relaxing break 5. Repeat 3 more times. After 4 rounds, take a 20 minute break! 3) Letters of Recommendation

Have you chosen two teachers that you want to write your Letters of Recommendation for your college apps? It is a great idea to ask teachers from your Junior year, who teach core academic subjects. As your classes and exams wind down, and there is more free time in your classes, this is the perfect opportunity to talk to the teachers you choose and ask about them writing your Letter of Rec next fall!

4) Personal Statement/Essays

Check out the Common App Essay prompts here! The earlier you start the essay process, the less overwhelming it will feel! Read the prompts and allow yourself to do a brain dump of any and all ideas, no matter how small or how detailed, that come to mind when you read the essay prompts. When you begin meeting with your Crosby Senior Advisor, share those thoughts with your advisor and ask for their feedback! Set a goal for yourself to keep you ahead of the essay stress. (For example, one GREAT goal would be to start your Senior Year with a draft of your Common App essay complete! The more time you give yourself to perfect your essay, the better!)

5) Explore HOW you will apply to colleges!

Create an account for the Common App here! This is how you will likely apply to many of your colleges Create (or log into) your CFNC account here! CFNC is the College Foundation of NC Save the date: CFNC Free Application week will be October 17th21st, 2022! During this week, select universities in NC waive their application fees! 5) Apply to CollegeBoard Opportunity Scholarships!

These are scholarships that are lottery based, and you can get entered into drawings each month, just by completing simple tasks you will be doing throughout the college process anyways. (starting NOW! earlier you start, higher chance you have to win a scholarship) Students whose families who make less than $60,000 a year can be entered into drawings twice, see here for how to do that!
