Tips from Crosby Advisors:

Get your requirements done for Senior Year early! Below are two requirements that you can get

done THIS year, so you don't have to do them next year (when college things are much busier):

1.

Community Service: Each Crosby Scholar is required to complete 5 hours of community service sometime in their Junior or Senior year before January 2023. Check out Community Service opportunities here, and cross if off your to-do list early! 2. College Fair/College Visit: Each Crosby Scholar is also required to complete 4 college visits (see page 3 of this newsletter for details). Start thinking about some schools you are interested, and sign up for info sessions, campus tours, etc. (Most schools should have both virtual and in-person options!)

Tips to strengthen your college applications for next year!

Get Involved At School Feeling like you missed your chance to participate in extracurriculars because of the pandemic? It's never too late to get involved! Extracurricular activities are opportunities to get to know fellow students, seek out leadership opportunities, and strengthen your college applications. Studies also show that involvement in extracurriculars can improve your grades! Check out your schools website or ask around to see the active clubs/sports you can participate in. Don't see something that interests you? Start your own club!

Get to Know Your Teachers When applying to college next year, some universities or colleges will require you to submit Letters of Recommendation from 1-2 of your high school teachers. The teacher(s) that you choose will have the opportunity to speak about your participation in class and how you are as a student. Because virtual learning made it difficult to get to know teachers, now is your chance to build relationships with teachers and be an active participant in their classes. Relationship building now, will make it easier to ask teachers next year.

Junior Program Requirements The Junior Program requires an increased commitment to your future. Our requirements are in place to steer you toward college admission by helping you become fully prepared for the demands of senior year. Here is a quick look at your Junior Program requirements: Attend one Junior Academy in the fall of 2021, hosted August - November 2021. Complete at least 5 hours of community service by January 31, 2023. Juniors who complete 5 hours by January 31, 2022 will complete both the junior and senior year requirement at once. Students can now submit an online community service form. Click here to submit. Attend one Think Like a Senior Session in the Spring of the Junior year Speak with four admissions reps by attending one PSOS college fair, or by visiting four college campuses by October of your senior year. We are allowing students to complete the College Fair/College Visit requirement virtually. Check out your Crosby Scholars Student Portal for more information to complete an online form for virtual college visits. Do not receive out-of-school suspension Continue to participate in It’s My Call/It’s Our Call random drug screening program at your school Remain enrolled in a Forsyth County public school and graduate from a Forsyth County public school Fulfill the terms of the Partnership Agreement A list of junior year program requirements is always posted in your Crosby Scholars Student Portal.
