Senior Program Checklist User Guide
Below you will find various ways to complete the Crosby Scholars Senior Requirements. In addition to these requirements, you will continue to: agree to random drug-screening, fulfill terms of Partnership Agreement, maintain enrollment in and graduate from a Forsyth County public school, and complete the Program with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher to be eligible for Last Dollar Grant funding.
Senior Requirement
Submit Target List of Colleges to Crosby Scholars Senior Advisor Senior advisors will submit this form to communicate Target List, military enlistment plans, or gap year/career development plans to Crosby Scholars.
Complete the College Fair/College Visit requirement and submit the online form Student will submit this form. College Fair/College Visits can be completed as early as Sophomore year.
Complete 5 hours of Community Service and Submit Form Student will submit this form. Community service may not be performed at for-profit organizations or businesses, unless the service benefits a non-profit organization. Crosby Scholars staff reserves the right to determine if this activity fulfills its community service requirement. Due to our nonprofit status, we are unable to accept volunteering on the political campaign of a specific candidate or political party as community service.
Complete 1 Senior Academy
Way(s) to Receive Credit
Share your Target List of colleges to which you plan to apply with your Senior Advisor. --OR-Share a plan for military enlistment with your Senior Advisor. --OR-Share a career development plan or a gap year plan with your Senior Advisor. You must visit 4 colleges through any combination of the following methods: In-person campus visit. Virtual visit (through campus website, virtual tour options, etc.) In-person college fair (stop at college table and gather information) Virtual college fair. Five total hours of Community Service completed over the Junior and Senior years. 5 hours completed Jnr year. --OR-IF 0 hours completed in Junior year THEN 5 hours required Senior year. --OR-IF less than 5 hours but more than 0 completed in Junior year, THEN 2 hours required in Senior Year.
Attend one Senior Academy event either virtually or in-person.
Events that count for Senior Academy credit will be listed as such in your student portal.
Meet with Senior Advisor to complete all required Conference Notes Submit at least 1 College Application Senior Advisors will verify that students have completed this requirement. Senior Advisors will submit this form. If a student documents military enlistment or gap year/career development, the student will receive automatic credit for the RDS, FAFSA, and LDG/scholarship requirement.
Complete the Residency Determination Service (RDS) Senior Advisors will verify that students have completed the RDS. Senior Advisors will submit this form.
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Parents/Guardians will be prompted via the portal to participate in the FAFSA Completion Project which will allow Crosby Scholars to be alerted once the FAFSA has been completed. Students are encouraged to work with Ashly Wilson, Financial Aid and Scholarship Coordinator if you and your family need personalized assistance.
Your advisor will work with you to schedule your meetings throughout the school year. You must communicate and attend these meetings. Senior Advisors will complete the Conference Notes and submit them to Crosby Scholars.
Submit at least 1 college application. --OR-Document military enlistment. --OR-Indicate gap year/career development and/or future college enrollment plans.
Complete the RDS and share the information with advisor --OR-Students will complete this form if they are not applying to colleges that require the RDS (out of state schools). Complete the FAFSA here: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa --OR-Parents/Guardians will complete this form verifying the student is not applying for financial aid. --OR-For those not eligible to apply to the FAFSA: Student will submit the FAFSA4Caster Submit a Last Dollar Grant Application LDG application typically is live in the student portal in April
Submit a Last Dollar Grant Application or at least 1 Scholarship Application
--OR-Apply for 1 Scholarship through Crosby Scholarships launch in student portal in the second semester
--OR-Apply for 1 Scholarship outside of Crosby Scholars and submit this information to us Students who apply to outside scholarships will complete this form. Please tell us about all of the outside scholarships for which you have applied.
SENIOR ACADEMIES SEMPTEMBER 2021 Academy season is here! As a Crosby Scholars Senior, you must attend 1 Senior Academy.
Registration in your student portal is required.
On-Demand Academies
As virtual Academies are offered, they will be recorded and posted to the student portal as "On-Demand Academies." Scholars may view these recordings on their own time to receive Academy credit. Scholars must view the full recording and complete the Confirmation of Attendance to receive Acadamey credit. See your student portal for more infomration.

QuestBridge - Behind the Scenes Student Panel
QuestBridge - Behind the Scenes with Admission Officers
Join Crosby Scholars to learn more about QuestBridge, a national college matching program. We are hosting a virtual student panel with current match recipients who are Crosby Scholars alumni.
QuestBridge, a national college matching program, is hosting a webinar on September 15 discussing the Behind the Scenes of the Admissions Office. Proof of attendance is required for academy credit.

Essay Writing Bootcamp
We're offering computer lab time to assist you in applying to college! You can create a CommonApp/CFNC/Coalition account, complete the RDS, work on college applications, essays, & more. Staff will be on hand to answer questions & assist.
Bring your college admission or scholarship essay(s) & meet with Crosby staff & volunteers experienced in critiquing students’ writing. Essays will be reviewed primarily for content with respect to following the prompt.

Attend the CACRAO In Person Fair on October 3rd at the Benton Convention Center OR the Virtual College Fair on October 11th-12th. More information will be posted in your Crosby Scholars Student Portal. Complete two hours of community service, and submit your community service form. Complete the online form here. Register to attend Crosby Senior Academies online through your Crosby Scholars Student Portal Meet with your Crosby Scholar Senior Advisor to complete Conference Notes 1 by September 30 Some high schools may offer college information sessions virtually or in person this fall. Meet with these admission representatives to learn more and express you interest in the school Confirm application deadlines for schools on target list Begin/complete online applications Write application essays, and email them to Crosby Scholars for review, or attend an Essay Writing Bootcamp for individual, in-person assistance Request letters of recommendation; speak with recommenders about the content of their letters Meet with your school counselor regarding counselor recommendation Find out how to receive your school’s scholarship newsletter- many schools are posting this newsletter on Canvas Review your high school’s scholarship newsletter, and apply for scholarships

Upcoming Programs and Resources for Senior Students and Parents! Crosby Scholars offers many opportunities for seniors to receive assistance with admission essays. Check out one of the options that we offer for academy credit: 1. Online Review: submit your essay to the seniorprogram@crosbyscholars.org email account and receive feedback from three volunteer readers. Be sure to follow the instructions in the Crosby Scholars Student Portal to submit your essay for academy credit. 2. OnDemand College Essay Workshop: Did you miss the Essay Writing 101 summer bootcamp but still want to learn? Watch the webinar recording in the OnDemand portal post. The webinar link and instructions can be found in your Crosby Scholars Student Portal. 3. Essay Writing Bootcamp: throughout the fall we will offer several Essay Writing Bootcamps. Students have the opportunity to join an in person bootcamp to receive immediate and face-to-face feedback from three volunteer readers. Registration is limited and spaces fill fast. Check out your Crosby Scholars Student Portal for more information and to register.

Mock Interviews

Experienced counselors will pose questions similar to those in a real interview to help you prepare for meeting with admission and/or scholarship committees. Upcoming Programs and Resources for Senior Students and Parents! Letters of Recommendation
By now, you should have an idea of whether the colleges you are applying to require teacher recommendation letters. If the answer is yes, now (or as early as possible) is a good time to start reaching out to your teachers who would be willing to write one for you! Make sure that the teacher you choose knows you well enough that they may address your character, academics, and your involvement in extracurriculars.

The Carolina's Association of Registrars and Admissions Officers (CACRAO), sponsors a college fair each fall. This year's college fair will be held in-person at the Benton Convention Center and virtually. The in-person session will be on Thursday, October 3rd and is a great way to meet face-to-face with college admissions representatives to ask your burning questions. The virtual session will be presented over two days from Monday, October 11th and Tuesday, October 12th. Students will be able to participate to receive credit for the Crosby Scholars College Fair/College Visit Requirement that is due on October 31st. If you still need to complete this requirement, you can join this in-person or virtual college fair. Registration for the virtual event opens on September 20th!

We are part of the Near Peer Advising team, which makes up the advising team of young adults who are recent college graduates meant to specifically work with and advise high school seniors. Our job is the same as the other senior advisors with the added bonus that we are closer to you in age with recent exposure to the college admissions process.
