The Sunday After Celebrates Pinnacle Composers Sunday, April 3 | 10 am | Sanctuary
As has been our custom these past few years, the Sunday after Easter will feature special music performed by the Chancel Choir and instrumentalists. This year choral compositions by Pinnacle members Michael Hegeman and Stephen Crosby will be heard during the 10 am worship Dr. Michael Hegeman Stephen Crosby service. Holy, Holy, Holy is a condensed version of an earlier composition created by Michael Hegeman. It uses texts from Revelation 1, 4 & 21, tenor solos by Andrew Peck, and piano accompaniment to proclaim God as "the Alpha and the Omega". This will be the premier performance of A New Song by Stephen Crosby, a work that is dedicated to Brent and Marilyn Hylton and the Chancel Choir. Using texts from Psalm 98 and 150 and Luke 24, the work features solos by Adrienne Goglia and Andrew Peck as well as accompaniment by piano, organ, handbells and percussion to celebrate the joy of the resurrection. The Chancel Choir has enjoyed working on both of these compositions and feel especially blessed to have the composers singing along with them. INSIDE...

Tracings A Letter from Dr. Wes Avram
Dear friends, I’m thinking about how we say farewell and thank you. Perhaps a simple "thank you” is the best way to say congratulations on a call well accomplished, a job well done, friendships made, and love shared. As we enter the weeks ahead at Pinnacle, we'll have occasions to celebrate music ministry and thank the Hyltons for all that they've done among us for the last fifteen years. Next to Larry Corbett, our founding pastor, there haven't been any folks on the pastoral or program staff at Pinnacle who've served longer than the Hyltons. They've marked us forever, shaped our witness and our character, shown love and creativity, and built good things. While well earned for them, their retirement feels too soon. But isn't that how it should be? We congratulate them even as we thank them. As a way to recognize all of this, our special Sunday After program on the Sunday after Easter will feature two new works created by PPC members and choir participants, Dr. Wes Avram, Michael Hegeman and Stephen Crosby (see cover story). Senior Pastor What a wonderful tribute to the two of them, and what a wonderful gesture to and from the Hyltons to debut these pieces in worship on our Sunday After! God is glorified, indeed. A simple thank you expressed in the beauty of music. More to come! All and with thanks to God, and gratitude for each other. In glorious song,
OUR CHURCH FAMILY SYMPATHY OF THE CONGREGATION IS EXTENDED TO: Family of Betty Sisson Bene’t and Michael O’Connor on the death of Bene’t’s mother Gaines and Jeff Smith on the death of Gaines’ mother, Paige Hoagy Baer, Bill and Susan Baer, on the death of Hoagy’s wife and Bill’s mother, Carolyn Baer

OUR COMMON LIFE
Carol Bower Receives Honor Every year the Presbytery of Grand Canyon honors a member of each congregation who has faithfully served in ministry through the years - both at the church and community level. These “saints” are recognized at a luncheon sponsored by the Presbytery. This year, the recipient of the Senior Service Award representing Pinnacle is Carol Bower. Carol is active in many ministries at Pinnacle. She has served on the session as Carol Bower with Presbytery Pastor, Brad Munroe our membership development elder and on the Deacon board. This past year Carol has served on Open Table and was a founding leader of our Stephen Ministry program. She has made a huge impact in her love and care of others, support for those in need and constant presence in our church. We are blessed to have such a warm and welcoming woman among us. Carol served the community as a school teacher for many years and recently volunteers with her service dog, Addie, at Gabriel’s Angels.
Rummage Sale Thanks Pinnacle’s recent Rummage Sale was a huge success. So far, we have grossed $23,800, which will enable our Youth ministry to continue their mission work! Thank you to Peggy Purkey and Susan Forrest, who spearheaded the effort, to the teens and adults who spent countless hours promoting, collecting, sorting, pricing, cooking, displaying, and collecting money, and to the many Pinnacle members and friends who donated and purchased so many great items! 4

MISSION AT PINNACLE
Harmony Ministries Notes.... Thank you so much for your support of Pastor Luc Deratus and the work of Harmony Ministries. Your generous donations will help in providing food, medicine and programs, and will enable construction to begin on the new school in Port-au-Prince. Thanks be to God! Several people have indicated interest in our next mission trip to Haiti, currently scheduled for January 2330, 2017. We will have an informational meeting April 10 to talk about plans and answer questions. If you would like to learn more and possibly join us, please contact haiti@pinnaclepres.org. Many people also thought the rechargeable solar lights presented by the Pinnacle kids to Pastor Luc were ingenious and address a big need in a simple way. If you would like more information on the lights and how to purchase them for your individual use or for Haiti, contact haiti@pinnaclepres.org. Let your light shine for all to see!
Taxes on Your Mind? AZ Working Poor Tax Credit Offering Opportunity November 2016 With April 15th tax deadline on our minds, we wish to remind you that this fall you will have another opportunity to make a 2016 tax credit donation to one or more organizations that are part of Pinnacle’s mission to aid the homeless and homebound and reduce your Arizona taxes dollar for dollar. Arizona taxpayers may claim a maximum credit of $200 for head of household and $400 for as married filing joint. That means a $400 tax credit donation will reduce your Arizona income tax by $400. True - no kidding. Tax credit donations by Pinnacle Presbyterian members in 2013 totaled $12,862, in 2014 were $14,276 and in 2015 were $16,595, and donors designated gifts to Andre House, Vista del Camino, Catholic Charities-MANA House for Veterans, Duet, Habitat for Humanity, UMOM, and United Way. 8

CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES AT PINNACLE
April Church School Perseveres! Perseverance is becoming a lost art in today’s world. More than ever, we need to model and teach our kids how to have grit and work through tough times. This month in Church School we will discover perseverance through a study of Hebrews. We have the chance to lean in to our kids and say: “Don’t give up. Persevere in your faith. Trust God no matter what.” When it comes down to it, we all have experienced things that we would have never experienced if we didn’t push through the difficult times. When you get to the other side, you’ll see something that you would have never seen before—if you just believe in what God can do and what God can do in you. Our April Memory Verse is Isaiah 40:31 (NIrV), “But those who trust in the Lord will receive new strength. They will fly as high as eagles. They will run and not get tired. They will walk and not grow weak.” Isaiah offers hope to those who persevere and trust in God. They will find strength even when they feel like giving up. Going through those tough times will teach us that God is always there.
