Pinnacle Welcomes New Staff

We are blessed to introduce four new staff members to Pinnacle. Rev. Dr. Kristina “Tina” Campbell is joining the Pinnacle staff as Assisting Pastor for Senior Adult Ministries. Tina has spent decades doing ministry in the trenches, and she takes very seriously the Biblical mandate to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and visit the prisoner. In 1975 Tina was the first woman ordained in the United Church of Christ in the state of Minnesota.

Brandon Burns is joining Pinnacle’s music staff as part-time Organ and Bells Scholar. He is a recent Masters Graduate in Sacred Music from Notre Dame University, with focus on organ performance. Brandon is now beginning a Doctor of Musical Arts program at A.S.U. He has experience as a music director for adult and children choirs and handbells.

Dr. Sharon A. Hansen has joined Pinnacle staff as Interim Director of Music Ministries. Dr. Hansen was the Founder and Director of the Milwaukee Choral Artists in 1998, which has performed domestically and internationally. She was Professor and Head of Graduate Choral Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Lisa Boswell has joined the Pinnacle staff as Executive Assistant to the Pastor. Lisa recently served Desert Forest Golf Club in Carefree, AZ, as membership director, human resources manager, and events coordinator. To learn more about Dr. Campbell, Dr. Hansen, Mr. Burns and Ms. Boswell, visit us online at www.pinnaclepres.org/news.

Tracings A Letter from Dr. Wes Avram

Dear friends, Comings and goings. Such is life, bathed in prayer. As you read this, we have said thank you and farewell to Brent and Marilyn Hylton and Mary Albrektsen as they moved into retirement. We’ve said hello and welcome aboard to Sharon Hansen, Brandon Burns, Tina Campbell, and Lisa Boswell: Sharon as our Interim Director of Music Ministries; Brandon as our Organ and Bells Scholar; Tina as our Assisting Pastor for Senior Adult Ministries (half-time); Lisa as our new Executive Assistant to the Pastor. There’s word about the new folk on page one of this issue of Vistas. When you look back you can see that there has been a Dr. Wes Avram, continual shifting, growing, and changing at Pinnacle— Senior Pastor both in the congregation and on the staff. Some of you have been here through it all. Some just got here and don’t know what the place looked or felt like six months ago. All is good. All is God. The Holy Spirit has been so faithful to us. That same Spirit continually calls us to look higher, reach farther, and love deeper. We run. We wait. And we discover who we’re being called to become. Come Holy Spirit, Come,

Wes Avram

OUR COMMON LIFE

Thanks Al! Some of you knew this from his ministry to you, but many of you were unaware of the steady and joyful hours put in by Rev. Al Lindemulder between January and May when our part-time pastoral position for senior adult ministries was vacant. Al is a retired pastor of the Reformed Church of America. He and his wife Nancy have made Pinnacle their church home in retirement. We're blessed by them being a part of us. Al graciously and skillfully agreed to join us for a few hours each week to help out. We’re so grateful that he did. Al and Nancy are in Michigan for the summer, but when they return in the fall we hope you'll say, "Thanks Al. Oh, and welcome back to the ranks of the retired." We're grateful for your ministry.

A Note from the Hyltons We wish to thank the Pinnacle congregation for your generosity and many good wishes on our retirement. It has been our privilege to serve as music directors these past fifteen years and an honor to call you our friends. We look forward to worshipping with you for many years to come. Blessings, Brent & Marilyn Hylton

This isn’t much unlike the times of the biblical prophets who preached “The Word of the Lord” to the people. Join us each week to hear a different prophet’s message and how it relates to us today. Read the prophets message on our daily Bible readings found on our app. CONTACT: kbrown@pinnaclepres.org

Register Now for All-Church Family Camp! August 26-28 | Lost Canyon, Williams, AZ The time is almost here for our All-Church Family Camp. This year we are going to look at Debra, one of the famous Judges in the Bible, as we learn to Let Our Light Shine. Besides the amazing time of fellowship and study, there will be time to enjoy the waterslide, hit the coffee shops, play basketball, GaGa ball, climb a climbing wall or do some hiking. Beds have nice mattresses in bunk-style cabins. There is something for everyone, no matter who you are; young or old, single, have children or grandchildren at this year’s camp. The total cost per person (12+) is $145; $85 for those ages (2-12). This price includes 5 meals (three on Saturday and two on Sunday), lodging for two nights, linens, and all camp activities you can imagine in a weekend. Registration forms can be found on the church website at www.pinnaclepres.org/all-church-family-camp. 4

MUSIC AT PINNACLE

Thank you, Lynda! We are grateful for the gifts and talents of Lynda Elliott, who directed our Wee Singers this past year during our Pinnacle on Wednesdays program. She will be stepping down from that position to spend more time at home with her husband, Bill, and giving her additional time to devote to other activities. We wish her well and thank her for sharing her wonderful musical gifts with the music program at Pinnacle.

Fiscal Year to date (thru 5/31/16) we see income exceeds expenses by $77,602, and our income is above last year at this time by $2,261. Extra income is partly attributable due to new member giving being up and more revenue from sanctuary rentals. Expenses have been held down mostly due to staff vacancies; however, with the recent new hires, that number will soon once again be at budgeted numbers.

YOUTH MINISTRIES AT PINNACLE

Pinnacle Youth and Leaders Serve in Belize This summer, 21 high school students and 8 leaders set out to have a lifechanging experience by traveling to Belize to serve a church community. They led Vacation Bible School, delivered food to those in need, put a roof on a house and ran three days of sports camp with over 100 kids. What most of our students didn’t realize is that it was their lives that would forever be changed. This once-in-a-lifetime trip didn’t just bring the students closer to God, but to each other as well as they learned to use their gifts to further God’s Kingdom. This trip, and all of our mission trips, are only made possible by the work of the faithful people who support our annual rummage sale. Whether you worked on the sale, donated items or took time to shop, the youth of Pinnacle would like to say THANK YOU for what you did to help change their lives and the lives of so many in Belize.

YOUTH MINISTRIES AT PINNACLE

Engage Wednesdays, Starting August 17 | 6:00 - 7:00 pm Jr. High Teen Center - Kitchen | Sr. High Teen Center - Lounge Pinnacle is the place for the Youth of PPC to be on Wednesday evenings this fall. Engage will return for both Jr. and Sr. High Students on August 17. We will continue to have fun as we discuss hard topics concerning what it means to follow Christ as a teenager in today’s world. We hope that you will join us this fall for Engage!

Informational Confirmation Meeting for 8th - 12th Grade Students and Parents Sunday, September 11 | Teen Center Confirmation Class is an important step in a Christian’s life. It is a time designed to help students make an informed decision whether to make a public profession of faith in Jesus, the Christ, as their Lord and Savior and to accept their responsibility in the life of Christ’s Church at this point in their life. There is no expectation that all participants will be or must be confirmed; just to learn more about what it means to be a disciple of Christ. There will be an informational meeting for all students interested in being a part of the confirmation process and their parents on Sunday, September 11 in the Teen Center. Confirmation will begin in October. If you are interested or want more information, please contact Pastor Frank. The registration form can be found at www.pinnaclepres.org/confirmation-class.

August Church School Talks Obedience What better time to talk about trusting those “in charge” of us than the month our kids start a new school year! This month we tackle obedience trusting those who lead you by doing what you’re asked to do. Through Bible studies from Genesis about Adam and Eve as well as Abraham, our children will have a new understanding of how we can be more obedient in practical and real life just as we are in our spiritual life. The kids will see how trust and obedience go hand in hand. Our memory verse is Hebrews 13:17 NIrV, “Trust in your leaders. Put yourselves under their authority. Do this because they keep watch over you.”
