INTRODUCTION We have forty four students graduating from BA (Hons) Jewellery Design this year and each has researched, tested and developed their own interpretation of the subject of jewellery. The final year is an exciting and demanding year which involves exercising the imagination, committing to an idea, developing thoughts into materials, risk taking, persistence when things go wrong and keen observational and evaluative skills. The course aims to support students in finding a creative identity in this way and also to provide them with opportunities to present and communicate their ideas and approach to high-level professionals from outside the university. These collaborations take the form of live projects, scholarships, awards, studio visits and reviews of work and allow students invaluable experience and an understanding of current standards and expectations. Throughout three years of study, students work with an impressive list of external partners. We are very proud to work with such eminent companies and institutions and I would like to take the opportunity to thank our current partners – Annoushka, ASIC, Auerbach and Steele, Avakian, Solange AzaguryPartridge, Boodles, Cartier, Chow Tai Fook, Freedom for Topshop, Margarita Wood, Swarovski, Theo Fennell, The Worshipful Company Of Tin Plate Workers Alias Wire Workers of The City of London, The Worshipful Company of Leathersellers, V&A, Winterson and Zeebags, Zimbabwe – for their highly valued contribution to the course. On behalf of all the staff, I warmly congratulate this year’s graduates and wish them all the very best in their future careers. Caroline Broadhead

A sense of playfulness and nostalgia for childhood.
I am playing with the contrast of light and shadow, transparency and lightness of structure.

Do sights that people have been seeing catch real information? An object might have different meanings or appearances by different people. My jewellery could be tools for the realisation of ‘normal sight’.

One inspiration for my collection is a famous diamond called The Hope or The French Blue, which was stolen in 1792. The diamonds are gone, but I imagine they still have a presence.

This collection commemorates my time in England, and I am paying tribute to the English rose. I have used the rose as a material, and this retains the perfume.

I capture memories by drawing people and things. The idea of the collection is to turn these drawings into jewellery.

Each piece in this collection simultaneously conceals and reveals. My work is series of conversations between the object and wearer, between the public and private, between the old and the new and between the here and now and the thereafter.

Fit into This is my personal story, translated into the language of jewellery. How to ‘fit into’ physical disability and psychological distortions, how to overcome them and make them ‘fit’ you. Private and painful these stories have to be told, some to be remembered, some to be forgotten.

Everything has a beginning and an end, so does memory. At the beginning, memory is deep and clear, it eventually fades through the passage of time, just like smoke vanishing in the air.
