CHUCK VOSS

HEAD COACH | 17TH SEASON

After capturing the program’s third Horizon League Tournament title last season, Chuck Voss returns for his 17th season at the helm of the Vikings during the 2016 campaign – and will be trying to guide the Vikings to back-to-back league titles for the first time in program history. Under Voss, Cleveland State has become a perennial powerhouse in the Horizon League, achieving success on and off the court year-after-year. Throughout his tenure at Cleveland State, Voss has guided the Vikings to three Horizon League Regular Season titles and three Horizon League Tournament crowns. Voss has also led Cleveland State to six 20-win seasons, and enters the 2016 campaign with 291 career victories with the Vikings - just three wins shy of becoming the winningest coach in program history. Voss, who is the reigning Horizon League Coach of the Year, picked up his fourth coach of the year honor after guiding the Vikings to a 26-7 record last season. The 2015 campaign was capped off by Cleveland State’s third trip to the NCAA Tournament and an AVCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year accolade for Voss. During his 16-year stint at Cleveland State, Voss has mentored 17 first team allleague selections, 15 all-newcomer team selections, 11 all-region honorees, and seven All-Americans. Among these honorees are returners Grace Kauth, Alexis Middlebrooks, and Rachel Stover - who will lead a talented group on the court during the upcoming season. Under Voss’ guidance, the Vikings have excelled in the classroom as well, earning the Game Plan/AVCA Team Academic Award five times over the last 10 seasons. The team has also been honored at Cleveland State’s annual John Konstantinos Athletic Academic Honors Luncheon, picking up the ‘Best of the Best Award’ following the 2007 and 2008 seasons for maintaining the highest GPA among the department’s 16 teams. Voss, who enters the 2016 season with a record of 291-189 at Cleveland State, is just nine wins shy of recording his 300th career victory with the Vikings. Voss would become the first coach in program history to achieve the feat, and just the second active coach in the Horizon League to reach the milestone at their current school. Voss’ continued dedication to the Cleveland State volleyball program has led the Vikings to become one of the top teams in the state of Ohio, and a Horizon League Championship contender year-in and year-out. Over the last nine seasons the Vikings have made three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to topseeded USC last year after capturing their third Horizon League Regular season and Tournament title. Cleveland State’s second NCAA Tournament appearance came during the 2012 season, when the Vikings captured the Horizon League Tournament title and earned the league’s automatic bid into the tournament field. The Vikings were sent to Kansas, where they notched their first-ever set victory in the NCAA Tournament. Voss and the Vikings picked up their first NCAA Tournament bid during the 2007 season, when Cleveland State swept through the Horizon League Tournament to claim its first-ever championship. The Vikings made their first appearance on a national stage against Albany, kicking off a string of three championships for Voss and the Vikings. VOSS COACHING HIGHLIGHTS

2015 SEASON REVIEW VIKINGS CAPTURE HORIZON LEAGUE TITLES For the second time in program history the Vikings swept the Horizon League titles, picking up both the Regular Season and Tournament crowns during 2015. This marks the third time that the Vikings have been Regular Season Champions (2009 & 2012) and also the third time that the Vikings have been Tournament Champions (2007 & 2012). Cleveland State finished the regular season with a 13-3 mark in league action, tying the program record for league wins in a season. CSU NOTCHES 20-WIN SEASON Cleveland State finished the 2015 season with a 26-7 record - notching the sixth 20-win season under head coach Chuck Voss and the 15th 20-win season in program history. The 26 wins tied the record for the highest single-season win total at Cleveland State over the past 30 years, and also tied the best single-season win total under Voss. TRIO JOINS 1,000 CLUB THIS SEASON Three Vikings joined the 1,000 milestone club during 2015, as Dayna Roberts and Nikki Holmes both reached 1,000 digs and Grace Kauth surpassed 1,000 career kills.
