MEN’S GOLF Cleveland State is back in
WOMEN’S GOLF The Vikings close out the
action for the final regular season event of the spring when the Vikings compete in the Boilermaker Invitational on Saturday and Sunday (April 20-21). It will be the final event leading up to the Horizon League Championship in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., from April 26-28. CSU was last in action on Friday and Saturday (April 1213), placing second of 12 teams at the Detroit Invitational. The Vikings carded rounds of 294-299-298 to finish as the runner-up. Junior Andrew Bailey placed fifth with an even-par 216 over 54 holes. He shot rounds of 71-73-72. Junior Brendan Byrne tied for 15th place with rounds of 76-75-73 (224).

CSU opened with a round of 343, but rebounded to take 38 strokes off in the second round and set a school-record with a round of 305. Freshman Allyson Hackman opened with an 86 and fired a career-low 75 (161 total) to tie for 21st place. Junior Shelly Ford tied for 30th place with rounds of 8677 (163).
MEN’S TENNIS CSU will close out the
regular season on the road this weekend, traveling to Butler and Wright State. The Vikings will face Butler in a non-league matchup on Saturday (April 20) and will then take on Wright State in their final Horizon League contest on Sunday (April 21). Both matches are set to begin at 2:00 p.m. The Vikings picked up a pair of wins last weekend, defeating UIC (4-3) and Valparaiso (7-0). The wins improved CSU to 8-11 overall and 4-1 in league play. The trio of Matt Kuelker, Ali Shabib and Niklas Jonsson picked up two singles wins on the weekend. CSU’s No. 1 doubles team of Shabib and Jonsson also picked up two wins over the weekend – improving their season record to 22-5, including a 5-0 league mark.
WOMEN’S TENNIS The Vikings will wrap up
the regular season this weekend, hosting Walsh and traveling to Wright State. CSU will begin the weekend with a 3:00 p.m. contest against Walsh on Friday (April 19) and finishes Horizon League play against the Raiders on Sunday (April 21) at 10:00 a.m. Cleveland State enters the weekend standing at 10-10 and 4-2 in league play – splitting their contests against UIC and Valparaiso last weekend. The Vikings dropped a hard-fought 5-2 decision to the Flames last Saturday and then rebounded with a 7-0 sweep over the Crusaders on Sunday. Alex Power notched the 50th singles win of her career against Valparaiso, earning a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 spot. Power, who became the 10th Viking to reach the 50win milestone, now has six wins on the spring and a 2-3 mark in league play.
SOFTBALL CSU will be home for six
games this week at Viking Field, hosting a three-game series with Detroit on Wednesday and Thursday before Loyola visits for three games on Saturday and Sunday. The Vikings enter the week at 12-18 overall and 3-3 in the Horizon League. CSU is coming off a busy week, going 2-5 last week. The Vikings lost two games at home to Akron on Wednesday and two games at St. Francis (Pa.) on Thursday. CSU rebounded to win two out of three contests at Youngstown State over the weekend. Sophomore Erica McNew hit four home runs during that and currently leads the Vikings in batting average (.386), home runs (12) and RBI’s (24). Senior Dara Toman set the CSU career RBI record in game one at YSU and now has 132.

Last Week
McNew had a huge week at the plate in CSU’s seven games last week, hitting .478 (11-23) with seven runs, one double, four home runs and seven runs batted in. She also drew two walks, had a .520 on-base percentage and a 1.043 slugging percentage for the week. McNew leads the Horizon League with 12 home runs, while also ranking second in batting average (.386) and fifth in RBI (24).
