WOMEN’S BASKETBALL The Vikings will take a break from competi-

tion this week and will return to action on Tuesday, December 20 when CSU participates in the Magnolia Classic in Oxford, Miss. The Vikings will face Murray State on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. EST and will then face the host, Ole Miss at 2:00 p.m. EST on Wednesday, December 21. CSU split its contests last week, topping Ohio 66-56 at the Wolstein Center and falling at Toledo, 81-42. Over the two contests the Vikings were led by Shalonda Winton who tallied her second double-double of the season against Ohio with 19 points and 12 rebounds and posted her fourth double-digit rebounding game of the year with 14 boards at Toledo.

SWIMMING & DIVING After sending 10 student-athletes to Atlanta,

Ga. to compete in the 2011 AT&T Winter National Championships (Dec. 1-3), the Vikings won’t compete again as a team until Jan. 7, 2012 while on their annual training trip in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. against an opponent to be announced. After that, the men’s team will have four meets and the women will compete three times before the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships are held from Feb. 22-25 in in Brown Deer, Wisc.

WRESTLING The Vikings fell to No. 9 Pittsburgh 39-3 in

overall, the second best start in program history. CSU opened the week with a 62-58 win at Robert Morris on Thursday (Dec. 8) to cap a seven game road trip with a 6-1 mark and returned home on Saturday (Dec. 10) to defeat Akron, 69-66. Jeremy Montgomery provided the game-winning shot against the Zips, hitting a three-pointer from the right win with 21.1 seconds left. It was the fourth game that CSU has won this year on their final offensive possession and improved the Vikings to 7-0 in games decided by five points or less this year. Senior Tre Harmon was tabbed the Horizon League Player of the Week for his efforts in the two games in which he averaged 20.0 points. In the two games, he shot .565 (13-23) from the field and hit 8-of-14 (.571) from three-point. The Vikings are back in action on Monday (Dec. 19) for a 7:00 p.m. contest at South Florida and return home to host Sam Houston State at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday (Dec. 22).

The Vikings, now 2-4, host the Cleveland State Open on Sunday (Dec. 18) before competing again as a team against Mid-American Conference foes Northern Illinois and No. 20 Kent State on Dec. 21 in DeKalb, Ill. to close out the calendar year.

WOMEN’S SOCCER For the fifth straight year, the Vikings were

honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America by being the recipient of an NSCAA Team Academic Award. To earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award a team’s combined grade point average must be 3.0 or higher for a full academic year. The Vikings’ GPA for the 2010-11 season was 3.34. The Vikings set a school-record by winning 10 games for the first time in the eight-year history of the program, finishing the season with a 10-7-2 mark. CSU advanced to the league tournament and hosted a first round match for the second straight season.


Viking Of The Week Tre H armon Men’s Basketball Last Week Harmon helped the Vikings improve to 10-1 this year with wins at Robert Morris and over Akron last week. In Thursday’s win at Robert Morris, Harmon tied his career-high with 24 points and followed that up with 16 points in a victory over Akron. In the two games, he shot .565 (13-23) from the field and hit 8-of-14 (.571) from three-point. Harmon’s 40 points in two games allowed him to move into 18th place on the all-time scoring list at CSU with 1,048 points. He was also tabbed the Horizon League Player of the Week.
