MEN’S BASKETBALL CSU returns home to play five

of the next six games in the Wolstein Center. CSU hosts Youngstown State at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 5) and Valparaiso on Saturday (Feb. 9) at 4:00 p.m. on ESPN2. The Vikings improved to 11-12 overall and 3-6 in the Horizon League with a 77-66 win at UIC on Saturday (Feb. 2) in CSU’s lone game last week. Marlin Mason led four players in double-figures with 22 points, while Charlie Lee had 11 points and career-high tying 10 assists.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL The Vikings will begin their busiest

stretch of league play this week, as CSU is set to play five games over the next 12 days. Cleveland State will host Wright State on Thursday (Feb. 7) and will then travel to Loyola on Saturday (Feb. 9). Cleveland State enters the week at 10-10 overall and 2-5 in league play, after dropping a pair of road contests last week at Detroit (96-77) and at Valparaiso (92-84 OT). The overtime contest against the Crusaders was the second of the season for the Vikings.

MEN’S TENNIS The Vikings will close out their brief three-match roadswing this weekend, traveling to Western Michigan for two contests. CSU plays at WMU on Friday, Feb. 8 and will then face Illinois State at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 9). CSU picked up a 5-2 victory over IPFW in itslone contest last week, and are 2-3 this season. All five of CSU’s points came from singles matches against IPFW, including a win from Jorg van der Vloet at the No. 1 spot.

D ara T oman SOFTBALL OPENS 2013 SEASON Cleveland State opens the 2013 season when the Vikings play

five games at the East Carolina Invitational from Friday through Sunday. The Vikings open play on Friday against Towson at 10:00 a.m. and ECU at 2:30 p.m. CSU plays Towson at 9:00 a.m. and Ohio at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday before closing out play versus Rider at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. CSU went 17-39 last season and will be led this year by senior Dara Toman who hit .405 last season with a school-record 19 home runs and 42 runs batted in.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING The Vikings (12-4) are now off from competition until the end of February when they travel to UIC for the Horizon League Championships from Feb. 27th to March 2nd. In a meet that came down to the final event of the day this past weekend, the CSU’s 400 freestyle relay of Christine Kopacko, Gretchen Hestley, Jamie Puls, and Alexandra Johansson came through clutch, holding off the UIC to help CSU win a 125-118 battle in a league matchup at UIC. Individual winners on the day for the Vikings were two seniors, Alice Sommerville and Joanna Olsson.

Senior Justin Hill led the way for CSU in the season’s final meet, a 138-105 CSU win at UIC, picking up two individual wins as well as one first place relay finish. Individually Hill won both the 50 freestyle (20.92), and 100 freestyle (45.98), and on the relay side he teamed up with Adam Ingledew, Alex Lewis and Martin Persson to win the 400 freestyle relay (3:04.33).

WOMEN’S TENNIS CSU will stay on the road this weekend, traveling

to Bowling Green for its lone contest of the week. on Friday, Feb. 8 at 12:00 p.m. The Vikings split their matches last week, topping Toledo (4-3) and falling at Michigan State (7-0). CSU collected all four points off of singles wins against the Rockets, led by Alex Bush who picked up a victory at the No. 1 position. Mathilde Orange (No. 3), Kara Sherwood (No. 4) and Maria Lazaris (No. 5) also notched wins for the Vikings.

WRESTLING The Vikings hit the road this week when they trav-

el to Kent State at 7:00 p.m. on Friday before hosting Clarion at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. This past weekend the Vikings were able to take two of the first three matches vs. Bloomsburg, before eventually falling 29-6 in an Eastern Wrestling matchup. Ben Willeford picked up a 2-1 overtime decision win at 125 pounds, while Nick Flannery earned a 5-2 victory at 141 pounds.

Competing in the last meet of the regular season, the group of Hestley, Kopacko, Johansson and Puls teamed to win the 4x100 freestyle relay - the final event of the meet - to help the Vikings claim a 125-118 win at UIC. The group clocked a time of 3:30.48 to defeat the Flames by .15 seconds. It helped the Vikings clinch their 12th win of the season.
