WRESTLING CSU’s season came to an end as junior 125-pound-

Willeford, the EWL champion, dropped his first contest 10-2 to Iowa’s 10-2 count to Iowa’s Matt McDonough before falling 11-2 in the consolation round. Shaw fell to Michigan State’s Mike McClure, 6-1, in the first round and lost his first consolation match, 8-0.

WOMEN’S GOLF CSU will be out of action until April 5-6 when the

Horizon League play with a three-game series against Wright State. The two teams will play one game Friday at 3:00 p.m. before then playing a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon. CSU’s three-game series against Detroit last week was postponed due to inclement weather. The series will be made up in mid-April with a doubleheader on April 17 at 4:00 p.m. and a single game on April 18 at 2:00 p.m. The Vikings are 9-11 on the year after going 4-2 over six games at Jackson State from March 14-16. The Vikings lead the Horizon League in home runs with 19, while senior Dara Toman leads the league in batting average (.379), sophomore Erica McNew leads in home runs (8), and freshman Alex Radjen leads in ERA (1.91).

collegiate on Monday and Tuesday (March 25-26). The VIkings resumed their spring season at the Benbow Invitational on March 11-12, finishing fifth of 14 teams at the event in Jacksonville, Fla. The Vikings carded rounds of 298 and 297. Junior Andrew Bailey shot 74-67 (141) and was tied for the lead after 36 holes, but fell on the first playoff hole to finish as the runner-up. His final round 67 was a career-low.

Vikings compete in the Colonel Classic in Richmond, Ky. The Vikings were scheduled to play at the Butler Spring Inivtational on Monday and Tuesday (March 25-26), but the event was canceled due to weather. CSU was last in action when the Vikings used balanced scoring throughout the lineup to finish second of 10 teams at the Benbow Invitational (March 11-12) to open the spring season. All five of CSU’s scorers placed in the top-20.

Cleveland State remains home this weekend and begins

play on Friday (March 29), traveling to Duquesne, before taking on Youngstown State in league action on Saturday (March 30). The Vikings will be trying to improve on their 4-9 overall record and stay perfect in Horizon League play (1-0). Last time out, CSU picked up a 7-0 sweep of Detroit, extending its win streak against the Titans to six straight under head coach Brian Etzkin. The Vikings were able to pick up wins in all three doubles matches and all six singles matches against Detroit, led by Matt Kuelker who notched the 50th singles win of his career with his victory at No. 2 singles. Kuelker is the seventh Viking to reach 50 career wins, and is now just three wins shy of moving into sixth place on the all-time singles wins list at CSU.

WOMEN’S TENNIS The Vikings will try to stay perfect in the Hori-

zon League this week, as they continue league play at Youngstown State on Saturday, March 30. CSU is 7-8 on the season and 1-0 in league play. CSU split two matches last week, falling 4-3 at Akron and defeating Detroit, 5-2 in the league opener. The trio of Kara Sherwood, Maria Lazaris and Nicole Janek each picked up singles wins against the Zips – with Sherwood notching the 50th win of her career, becoming the ninth Viking to reach the milestone. Against Detroit, CSU got wins from the same three, along with Alex Power who clinched the match with her win at No. 3 singles. Sherwood has a team-best 8-5 singles record this spring, while Janek and Lazaris each have seven wins.
