WELCOME Hello, and welcome to the Department of Theatre & Dance virtual presentation of Living Six Feet Apart. We are so excited to share this performance with you! First, I want to thank all of the students, faculty, and staff who have worked
tirelessly to make this possible. I’ve personally witnessed our college rise to the challenges of these times to reach far above expectations. Our performing arts students continue to thrive, delivering some of the most heartfelt and thoughtprovoking performances I’ve seen. This semester has demonstrated one thing loud and clear: the arts are active, vibrant, and resilient here at Cal State Fullerton. Just as the arts continue to adapt and evolve, so have our students. These Titans of the Arts – unwavering in their passion and commitment to their craft – are the reason we do what we do as educators, administrators, and staff. I look forward to seeing theatre, dance, and music students rehearsing throughout the performing arts building, and visual arts students creating in the breezeways and art courtyard once again. DIRECTOR’S NOTES I want to thank my very talented creative team, production staff and especially all the student writers and actors who participated in the development of Living Six Feet Apart. This was a unique, collaborative and exciting experience on many levels. So much so, the Director’s Notes have been re-labeled DIRECTORS NOTES because all of the students involved participated in the creative process and actual direction of this project! A big proponent of a successful production is the ability to adapt to challenges and restrictions set by outside forces and I believe we have done so in the best way possible with the tools available to us. The script was a living, breathing document being developed, devised and changed daily. Each story and each scene was unique. And with all the restrictions placed upon us, the cast had the added pressure of creating their own setting, and supplying their own costumes and props. A challenging experience to say the least, but it forced us to solve technical problems and trust our creative instincts. We were all in our own private bubbles, communicating on Zoom and trying our darnedest to create a cohesive theme out of 21 totally different story ideas. Faced with a global pandemic, physical separation, restrictive guidelines and technological difficulties, we all pushed through to create a project we hope will touch many during these trying times. Our connections were limited, and we were all spread out across the country. However, even in quarantine, when everyone is backed up against the wall, with ever-polarizing opinions, very little consistency and no clear end in sight, we know we will walk out of this with what makes us unique: the arts. Although metaphorically, the stories we tried to tell are shot through the windows of Zoom and basically set inside the actors’ homes, the characters they portrayed all have hopes for creating a better tomorrow as they strive to adapt to the one constant in their lives….Change. – Saundra McClain
About the Director With over 45 years professional experience in all levels of the theatre discipline, Saundra McClain, (a two-time Ovation Award and LA Drama Critics Circle Award nominee for Best Actress in 2019), has performed in numerous films, with several recurring and guest starring roles on television. In addition to her numerous commercials, film credits and recurring television roles, she is a professional director, currently pursuing her MFA in Theatre at CSU Fullerton. As a director, Ms. McClain is the recipient of several Ovation and NAACP nominations and awards for Breath and Imagination at both Virginia Stage and Colony Theatre. Most recent directorial credits include Dancing Lessons (Ensemble Theatre Company, Santa Barbara), Crumbs from the Table of Joy (Pomona College), The Colored Museum (Cal Lutheran University), Bee-LutherHatchee (California State University, Fullerton), Oh Freedom (Main St. Theatre), Bee-Luther-Hatchee (Sierra Madre Playhouse). Additional directorial credits: Prayerville, Intimate Apparel, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, The Fantasticks, In the Continuum, Spunk, Electra, The Women of Plums, Death of a Salesman, Antigone, Dark of the Moon, A Modest Proposal, Harriet’s Return, Flyin’ West, What I Learned in Paris, The Colored Museum, and For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf. Venue capacity is 50 students, seated singly and socially distanced. Masks must be worn at all times. The entire presentation must be attended from start to finish due to safety protocols.

The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival™ 52, part of the Rubenstein Arts Access Program, is generously funded by David and Alice Rubenstein. This production is entered in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF). The aims of this national theater education program are to identify and promote quality in college level theater production. To this end, each production entered is eligible for a response by a regional KCACTF representative, and selected students and faculty are invited to participate in KCACTF programs involving scholarships, internships, grants and awards for actors, directors, dramaturgs, playwrights, designers, stage managers and critics at both the regional and national levels. Productions entered on the Participating level are eligible for invitation to the KCACTF regional festival and may also be considered for national awards recognizing outstanding achievement in production, design, direction and performance. Last year more than 1,300 productions were entered in the KCACTF involving more than 200,000 students nationwide. By entering this production, our theater department is sharing in the KCACTF goals to recognize, reward, and celebrate the exemplary work produced in college and university theaters across the nation.

WILLIAM CAMARGO: Origins & Displacements, Vols. 1 & 2 October 3 – December 31, 2020 This exhibition is an on-going body of work examining Orange County’s history through contemporary photographs, videos, and performance produced by artist William Camargo. On display outdoors at Grand Central Art Center and MUZEO Museum & Cultural Center due to ongoing Covid-19 safety protocols.
