O

Pinot Gris

ur Pinot Gris has lovely lifted aromatics and fine structure - quite European in style. Michael Cooper has recently reviewed this wine. ****TOSQ Pinot Gris 2011 "Faintly pink, it is mouthfilling, with strong, ripe stonefruit flavours of peaches and nectarines, hints of apricots and spices, a sliver of sweetness and considerable complexity. Fleshy, with good concentration, it's drinking well now"

Harvest 2012

H

arvest days are the highlight of our vineyard year. Glorious sunny weather through April capped off a great season.

H

ot days in the earlier part of the summer helped produce ripe tannins and excellent colour in the pinot noir all the fruit came in looking fabulous, as did the harvesting team!

Another harvest completed - another set of meteorological variables for the plants to respond to, and hence another new wine to be produced. No two seasons are identical which ensures each vintage is unique!

Vintage 2012

Wines in the Making.... Early days to make predictions on the 2012 vintage, but all indications are promising! Many thanks to Dan, Sarah-Kate and the team at Maude Winery! The wines are now tucked up for the winter, in barrel or in tank. The Pinot Gris should be ready for bottling around October 2012. The Pinot Noir will go through malolactic fermentation when the temperatures warm up in the spring. It will remain in barrels until next autumn, quietly building complexity and gathering secondary characteristics from the seasoned french oak to balance and complement the fruit flavours

Composting

A

utumn is the time when our attention turns to our soils and life below the ground.

C

ompost is put out and the ground is drenched with compost teas - feeding and replenishing the soils, ready to support the vines when the first signs of spring start drawing the energy back up the trunks towards budburst and another season.

S

noop Dog remains our primary form of rabbit control - relentless in her pursuit of these omnipresent pests, she shows no mercy, and this easter was one of her best!

Winter

and 16,000 vines to prune! Luckily the snow is late in arriving this year so the conflict between skiing and pruning is yet to arise! Cheers Sue & Thomo
