The viewfinder is another key component as it is the main visual source for thephotographers.
Auto focus
This is the print/share button to directly print.
The image sensor converts an optical image o an electronic signal, this is a later sent to the memory card. The two main parts of digital cameras are CMOS & CCD. Both forms of the sensor accomplish the same task but differnt method of preformances
This is the main command dial. When using the camera mode p,u1,u2 you can set a programme shiftwith the rear dial, i.e so shift the combinations of aperture and exposure time.
Cross keys enable you to flick through your pictures on the screen and you can select ISO speed, white balance, metering mode etc
The shutter release button is what releases the shutter and therefore enanbles the ability to capture the images.
The lens is a key component of a DSLR camera. This is because it’s where the light first eneters and therefore starts the process. Most lenses on DSLR are interchangable.
Lens release button.
The onboard flash will be available on all cameras expect some DSLRs. It can be provide some extra light so can see the image better.
Flash-lock release/ sync mode/ exposure compensation.
types of cameras compact digital cameras
There are many pros and cons of compact cameras. One pro is the fact that they are more or less pocket sized and therefore very portable. However, they do not be used by professionals as the quality is not as good as a DSLR. DSLR
DSLR cameras are much bigger than compact cameras and of course heavier because of this whilst traveling many people would prefer to bring a compact camera on holiday as it takes up less space but, DSLRs are much better at capturing a good quality photograph, it also has a faster focusing and minimal shutter delays. One of the most liked things about DSLRs is the fact that you can change the MIRRORLESS CAMMirrorless cameras have the advantages of being lighter, more compact, faster and better for video, but there’s not a wide range of lenses to chose from.
action cameras Action cameras are good as there are many to chose from for example Go Pros, they are also very light and compact as well being able to go through a lot more damage than other cameras however many people buy accessories such as gorilla pods. This is bad because most of the accessories are much bigger and heavier 360 camera
360 cameras are known to be good quality. They require Android or IOS as it should connect with your phone. This is controversial as many people think accessing it via your phone is handy as they find it easier to use however, many people also don’t agree as it requires Wifi and it only works on newer smartphones which some people may not have access to.
film cameras Film cameras deliver a higher dynamic range, which makes it better at capturing detail. They also often have higher resolution than what is found in most digital cameras. However, they are much heavier than DSLRs, they’re more expensive and must be developed.
camera equipment Tri pods Tri pods are very popular in the photography industry. Photographers recommend them if you’re focusing on long distabce photographs. This is because it will keep the shot as still as possible and it’s easier for ypu to focus your camera. They are also used for timelapses, long exposure shots, self portraits, video work ect.
studio lights Studio lights are used for indoor photography capturing an individual or typically a family photographs. Studio lights are artificial and is used to brighten up a photo it makes the image look more sharp and professional.
in some cases lens filters are used for capturing photos in extremely difficult lighting. They enhance colours to make pictures look more bright or gloomy depedmding on the message the photographer is trying to portray. Lens filters are mostly frequently used by landscape phototographers it’s very rare that street and portraitures use filtered lenses as the like the natural approach more.
A gimbal is mostly used by videoographers. The pros of the equipment is the fact that it provides very stable moving images as well as being easy to use as it’s not electrical. The cons of the gadget is the fact that enable to get a good one it can be exensive as well as the fact that it’s very heavy and moving it about can be stressful.
Camera support Monopods are used for stability in photography. It’s mostly used by photographes who capture images of athlets for the press. Its more useful thena tripod because it means the photographer can move around much faster making them more practicle. The cons of monopods are the fact that they are heavy and take up a lot of space.
Drones are devices used by videographers. The drone is capable of capturing birds eye views which a human could not do. The pros of drones is that they can get clear footage from height that human could not reach without a plane making it extremly handy as it captures from a birds eye view. The cons are that they’re hard to use and are a danger hazard. In the UK it’s also hard to find a location which allows the flying of a drone
flash flash is light which comes from either portable devices, hand held devises or studio lights When used correctly they are for illuminatig a dark scene. Other times they are used to capture images of moving objects. The flash on portable devices are always built into the device which is better for the people who buy it cause they don’t have to buy a seperate light. example:
Natural lighting
in photography
Natural lighting is lighting which comes from the outdoors such as the sun. It is mostly used by landscape photographers. it is also used commonly by photojournalist who capture real life situations and therefore do not use professinal lighing to make it look better. The benifits of using natural lighting is that it’s free. Obviously you do not need to pay for sun light whereas, artificial lighting like studio lights cost a lot of money. Another pro of using natural light is the fact that it’s every where you go for as long as it’s day time meaning that you can move around and switch location without any hassle whereas, photographers who use equipment such as studio lights have to move heavy object around if they want to change location.
over exposed An overexposed photograph is poor quality as the film was exposed to too much light, either when it was taken or whilst the photo was developing
AUTO EXPOSURE Auto exposure is a standard fuction on DSLR cameras.
under exposed
correct exposure
If an image is referred to as under exposed it means that it is darker than it should be. This would be because there is sources of light whether it be natural or artificial light. It could also be due to a problem with the film in the camera. Some photographers underexpose their photographs on purpose. This is so they have more option whilst editing.
Correct exposure is when your combination of settings is perfect this inclueds aperture, shutter speed and ISO speed. When nothing is blown out or lost in shadows it is classed as correct exposure.Enable to get correct exposure you need to use manual mode whilst shooting in low light. Most of the time correct exposure is not used as i hard to do so. the cons of trying to get a photograph with correct exposure is the fact that it takes up a lot of time.
COLOUR TEMPERATURE colour temperature is usaully recorded in kelvin. Kelvin is a unit for temperature used to measure the colour temperature of light sources. Cool colours like blue and white would have a lower measurment of Kelvin whereas, warmer colours such as red and orange are musch higher. Often around 2000k. In a DSLRs camera setting there is often a varity of differnt temperaure options for example, Tungsten, which is warm. Tungsten example:
