Groups Groups
Hello there, fellow adventurers!
Welcome to this year’s Group Travel Today Planning Guide! With the travel season in full swing, we’re thrilled to bring you this delightful tool to help you plan your day trips, short breaks, and epic tours. Whether you're organising a jaunt with your mates or a grand adventure with fellow explorers, we've got you covered
Here at Group Travel Today, we’ve always known that Group Travel Organisers are the true trailblazers When it comes to tackling climate change, there's hardly a greener way to travel than by coach. Think about it: a coach is about four times the size of a family car but can carry the same number of passengers as 20 cars. That means the greenhouse gas emissions per person are significantly lower over six times less, to be precise Plus, with fuel prices soaring, it's a no-brainer!
Inside this edition, you’ll discover a fantastic array of venues, attractions, trips, and tours ready for you and your group to enjoy Many of these come with bespoke packages, offering added extras
tailored to your group’s tastes, needs, and schedules all at reduced prices.
From cultural escapes and scenic wonders to thrilling adventures and relaxing retreats, we’ve curated the best experiences to make your travels unforgettable.

Battle of Britain
The D-Day 80th anniversary commemorations in June 2024 marked a military success that had its roots in a much earlier victory.
Without the Royal Air Force’s success in keeping this country safe from invasion by seeing off the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain in 1940, the D-Day invasion could not have happened four years later as the south coast would have been under Nazi control.
The story of that epic battle and the bravery of the men who fought it is told at the Battle of Britain Memorial, which sits high on Kent’s famous White Cliffs just outside Folkestone at Capelle-Ferne.
Besides the central Memorial to the Few, the Memorial is home to a replica Spitfire and Hurricane and the Christopher Foxley-Norris Memorial Wall, which lists the names of the fewer than-3,000 men –Christened ‘the Few’ by wartime prime minister Winston Churchill – who took part in the Battle
It also offers unbeatable views of the French coast from a first-floor cafe
overlooking the dramatic yet poignant memorial.
That café is part of The Wing, a unique Spitfire wing-shaped visitor centre that also houses The Scramble Experience – a unique, hands-on, all-ages introduction to the Battle, a well-stocked shop and accessible toilets.
Parking is free for prebooked coaches, guided tours can be arranged at a reasonable additional charge and there is a group rate for entry to The Scramble Experience, with pre-booked groups of ten or more paying just 6 pounds per person instead of 7pounds. There is free admission for up to three tour leaders/coach drivers.
The Sil k Museum
Silk equates to luxury; it elevates any occasion from coronations to weddings so designers have used it over the years to create special items of clothing. It represents quality and style. The Silk Museum has it all –whether your interest is in fashion, textiles, design, industrial heritage and social history – if so, come and see what we have to offer. See the pattern books and blocks which were created in Macclesfield for use in textiles and explore
the vibrancy and joy that pattern brings. Visit Paradise Mill, adjacent to the Silk Museum, and see the original Jacquard looms in operation, demonstrated by their expert guides and find out about some of the characters who worked there when it was the global centre of silk design and production.
To book a visit please email bookings@silkmacclesfield. org.uk and they will check availability for you. They are always delighted to host fam trips – so if you would like to visit them please contact business@silkm acclesfi eld or g uk

Heart of England
Has always been a booming economic centre, starting with the wool trade in the Middle Ages which enriched Coventry, before becoming the pivot of the Industrial Revolution fuelled from the Black Country, it still maintains a largely unspoilt region found to the north and west of Birmingham, which means that there’s plenty of things to do both outdoors and indoors, walking, cycling, or maybe a boat trip on the canals (there are more in this area than there are in Venice, although we haven’t spotted any gondola’s yet), visiting stately homes and gardens, why not visit Croome Court once a secret wartime airbase and now a visitor centre. Outside is the grandest of English landscapes, ‘Capability’ Brown’s masterful first commission, with commanding views over the Malvern’s.

The world’s greatest city (although we would say that, perhaps we’re a little bias) needs little introduction, other than to say that whatever type of day out, short break or holiday you are after, if you can’t find it here it doesn’t exist. From free museums, art galleries and world-class theatre, iconic landmarks Big Ben, The Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, The Shard, we could be typing all day, with foodie delights, serious shopping and thanks to the abundance of greenery and outdoor activities, London has become the world's first National Park City. Why not do a bit of boating in Hyde Park or deer-spotting in Richmond Park?

The North East
A region that combines sandy beaches, castles and portcullises, miles and miles of natural terrain that's divided and dominated by Hadrian’s Wall, but also includes 3 vibrant and cosmopolitan cities and of course the birthplace of Ant and Dec who it would appear we can't get enough of.The magnificent Durham Cathedral, on a huge promontory overlooking the River Wear, is held by many to be the finest example of Norman architecture in the land, and of course a more modern masterpiece The Angel of the North whose home is in Gateshead.

The North West
The Industrial Revolution created mighty cities thanks to textiles and shipping which are now home to arguably the greatest football teams the world has ever seen, well at least the most successful and lucrative. It doesn't come as a surprise to learn that this is the 3rd most densely populated area in the United Kingdom after the South East and Greater London, there's something for everyone here, iconic cities that are as famous for their music scenes as their grand industrial buildings and museums. Hear The Beatles resonate from street corners in Liverpool and the Stone Roses and Oasis rock in fashionable Manchester and now also home to Media City. For nature lovers, landscapes filled with lakes, estuaries buzzing with birdlife, and there's the Lake District another oasis of tranquil beauty.

The South East
The South East is renowned for its beautiful gardens and miles of stunning coastline. Rich in cultural attractions, the region is easily accessible from London, and is also home to gently rolling countryside, two National Parks and some of Britain's sunniest and driest weather! DISCOVER THE FEW who turned the tide of war
A GROUP VISIT TO REMEMBER
In the summer and early autumn of 1940, fewer than 3,000 men of the Royal Air Force stopped the Luftwaffe in its tracks, prevented an invasion of this country and ensured that the south coast could be used as the springboard for the Allied landings on D-Day in 1944.
Their bravery and sacrifice led wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill to declare: “Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.”
Today their story is told at the Battle of Britain Memorial, high on Kent’s famous White Cliffs at Capel-le-Ferne between Dover and Folkestone.
Our modern visitor centre welcomes group visits. Guided tours can be booked (fee applies) and there is a group rate for The Scramble Experience.

Wales
From valleys that are synonymous with mining to the mountainous National Park at Snowdonia and glorious sandy beaches that are among the longest in Britain. Interested in medieval history? The cathedral at the UK’s smallest city, St David’s, is a must. After great castles with battlements and drawbridges? It’s little wonder that Wales is also known as “the castle capital of the world”. Try Conwy, Caernarfon, Caerphilly and Beaumaris. For coastal holidays, you have more than 100 beaches dotted along the coastline, with 33 Blue Flag beaches. From Swansea and the Gower Peninsula to Pembrokeshire and Anglesey.

Scotland
Surely the most geographically diverse region in the whole of the British Isles, Scotland is a mist-shrouded land of mountains and fells, lochs and lakes, the Highlands and the Islands and with golf-courses, castles and beaches galore.
Sporting tours — think golf, fishing, falconry and so much more — are an emerging theme, as is cuisine — Scotland’s food and drink offering is now truly world-class with provenance and sustainability envied the world over. Add in the ever-popular city of Edinburgh, with its Royal Mile, New Town and ghostly tours in the labyrinths beneath its streets, plus the possibility of island-hopping in the Western Isles (formerly known as the Hebrides) and the only drawback will be what to leave out…
