INFORMATION Did You Know... In a given year, CTR administers between 150 and 200 research projects and interagency contracts with combined budgets exceeding $12 million. CTR’s capacity for linking research with education exceeds that of any other Texas institution. With more than 200 graduate and undergraduate students engaged in its research programs annually, the center plays a critical role in developing and maintaining a qualified pool of engineers and researchers to serve the state’s future transportation needs. The Texas airport system is the largest in the nation.* Texas has over 50,000 bridges, about 80 percent more than any other state in the nation.* There are over 250,000 trees, shrubs and ground coverings that were planted along state maintained highways.* Texas has 30 international bridges open to traffic between Texas and Mexico.* There are over 7,000 transit vehicles including buses and vans operated in Texas.* The average daily vehicle miles traveled (VMT) on all roadways in the state is 641.0 million miles.* *TxDOT Pocket Facts 2009

CTR Library Mission The library’s mission is to support transportation research by providing for the information needs of students, researchers, agencies, and the public by developing long-term partnerships in both printbased and electronic resource sharing.

Visitor Information

CTR Library Collections The CTR Library contains more than 17,000 unique titles of transportation-related reading and reference materials. Our holdings include copies of all reports generated by the Center for Transportation Research. We also have reports from the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI), the Southwest Regional Transportation Center, the University of Houston, Texas Tech, and The University of Texas at El Paso.

Staff are on hand to help you with your reference questions and to locate any research materials that you might need. The library contains a public access computer that you may use for research-related work and a comfortable reading area. Several Capital Metro bus route stops are within one block of the building, bicycle racks are available in front of the building, and designated Car2Go spaces are also nearby. We can validate parking for CTR visitors who park in the Guadalupe Garage.

CTR Library Reference The library provides a variety of reference services, including literature searches of transportationrelated material, Interlibrary Services, and special purchases for our collection. Reference questions may be e-mailed to library staff and appointments may be scheduled with staff in order to serve your reference needs. Please e-mail your questions to: ctrlib@austin.utexas.edu

In addition, we have a small reference collection of industry standards, a complete set of materials from the Transportation Research Board, and documents from the Federal Highway Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation, Texas Department of Transportation, and other state departments of transportation. We act as an archive for Texas Department of Transportation research.

The CTR library’s online catalog provides easy access to the diversity of material available at the library. Many recent CTR reports are also available in Adobe Acrobat PDF format for free download from the website. The CTR library strives to ensure that its holdings are made available to a global audience through ongoing web enhancement projects. We have nearly 8,000 full text links in our catalog.
