Item 2 Guidebook for Addressing Aircraft / Wildlife Hazards at General Aviation Airports TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH BOARD (TRB)
ACRP Report 32 • 2010 This report presents the different wildlife challenges that airports may face and the techniques and strategies for addressing them. The Guidebook discusses for airport managers and other airport personnel at general aviation airports with limited resources (1) the different species that can be found at airports and specific information that will be helpful in identifying and controlling them, (2) the various wildlife attractants and best management practices that can be employed by airport operators to minimize wildlife activity at and around airports, (3) wildlife control strategies and techniques that are most appropriate at general aviation airports, and (4) how to develop a wildlife control program. General aviation airports are usually resource constrained, and because of limited staff, there is very little specializing that occurs. Airport personnel often handle many different areas of airport management, and rely on easy-to-read, all encompassing materials to help them be as effective as possible in their different responsibilities in operating and maintaining the airport. ACRP Report 32 is a guidebook for general aviation airport personnel in the area of wildlife management designed to assist them in providing the safest environment possible in an efficient manner. ACRP Report 37 / CRP-CD-82 • 2010 ACRP Report 37 is a guidebook for planning and developing automated people mover (APM) systems at airports. This report, directed primarily at airport planners, designers, and operators, encompasses a wide range of topics describing the planning and decision-making process, alternative system infrastructure and technologies, evaluation techniques and strategies, operation and maintenance requirements, coordination and procurement requirements, and other important planning and development issues. For any given topic, the report addresses key issues in multiple chapters and from multiple perspectives. In addition, Appendix A presents two theoretical examples using specific system characteristics, and Appendix E describes components of simulation models used to facilitate the pre-design phase of the overall system planning process. The guidebook includes an interactive CD that contains a database of detailed characteristics of the 44 existing APM systems. Using this database, planners and designers can evaluate specific options appropriate for new projects by comparing similar situations already in operation. TCRP Report 95 Chp.19 • 2010 This report uses wise comparisons to explore the relative importance of particular categories of TDM strategies, such as support versus incentives, as well as the particular strategies themselves, such as transit subsidy versus a highoccupancy vehicle parking discount. TDM (transportation demand management or travel demand management) is a process that can encompass a variety of measures intended to influence travel choices. TDM is used to manage heavy traffic demand and parking requirements, and to enhance the effectiveness of transit services. This report is part of TCRP’s Traveler Response to Transportation System Changes Handbook series. The overarching objective of the Traveler Response to Transportation System Changes Handbook is to equip members of the transportation profession with a comprehensive, readily accessible, interpretive documentation of results and experience obtained across the United States and elsewhere from (1) different types of transportation system changes and policy actions and (2) alternative land use and site development design approaches. The Handbook, organized for simultaneous print and electronic chapter-by-chapter publication, treats each chapter essentially as a stand-alone document. Each chapter includes text and self-contained references and sources on that topic. The Handbook user should, however, be conversant with the background and guidance provided in TCRP Report 95: Chapter 1, Introduction. Upon completion of the Report 95 series, the final Chapter 1 publication will include a CD-ROM of all 19 chapters.
