TAKE IT TO THE
NEXT LEVEL
“NEXT LEVEL
“
TAKE IT TO THE Loyal Buff Supporters,
Last year we asked, “Are you in?” I was overwhelmed by how many of you responded with a resounding, “Yes, I’m in!”
Our athletic department has made great strides in the past year, but we’ve still got a lot of work to do. We’re proud that our student-athletes are posting the highest collective GPAs in the history of the University. We’re proud that we had one of our highest ever finishes in the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings. We’re proud of our record-setting fundraising efforts. We’re proud of the progress being made with our new athletics facilities. We are proud of many things, but we are nowhere near satisfied.
Your annual gifts are the financial foundation for everything we do. You provide the opportunities for these extraordinary student-athletes. You are the key to our future and our mission for sustainable excellence in the Pac-12 Conference. Most of you have been generous Buff Club donors for years – thank you! In the year ahead we are asking all Buffs to take it to the next level and give just a little bit more. If you are not currently a donor, you can take it to the next level by joining the Buff Club at whatever level you can. If you are already a donor we’re asking you to consider making additional gifts to move up to the next annual giving level. Together, we will take CU Athletics to the NEXT LEVEL! Collaboration and Unity,
2015 MEMBERSHIP GUIDE
We’ve set lofty goals. With your help, there’s no question that we will achieve these goals.
2
This year, we’re taking everything to the NEXT LEVEL and we need you with us. We’re taking our facilities to the next level. Our student-athletes are taking their athletic and academic performance to the next level. Our coaches and staff are working harder than ever, while tightening their belts and helping us balance our budget.
We have made significant progress, but that’s not enough. We need to take it to the next level. We need to win more championships. We need to graduate all of our student-athletes. We need to finish our facilities. We need to increase revenues and balance our books.
RICK GEORGE, Director of Athletics Buff Club Donor

BUFF CLUB GIVING
WAYS TO GIVE
Donors who support CU Athletics through generous contributions are considered members of the Buff Club. A donation to the Buff Club is one of the best ways to make a positive impact on the future of Colorado Athletics. Our student-athletes do their part with hours of practice, studying, competing and striving for championships. Please help ensure their success and make a difference by making a gift today. ANNUAL GIVING Annual gifts to the Buff Club provide invaluable scholarship and operating resources which immediately impact and enrich the lives of our student-athletes. Some common examples of annual gifts are football and basketball seating contributions and the Scholarship Donor Program. CAPITAL GIFTS Capital gifts address specific facility needs of the athletics department. Capital gifts are included when determining a Buff Club member’s annual membership level. Gifts made to the Sustainable Excellence Initiative are Capital Gifts. ENDOWMENTS Endowments are gift funds that generate interest. A portion of the endowment’s total value can be utilized for the purpose you choose to support. Interest income is reinvested in the endowment’s principal each year, enabling it to grow in perpetuity and provide an enduring stream of income. Establishing an endowment provides funding for the future of Colorado Athletics. PLANNED GIVING A planned gift can pay future dividends to ensure competitive excellence, educational opportunities and lasting tradition for student-athletes, coaches and staff. Planned gifts can be made as charitable trusts, gift annuities, bequests, life insurance and numerous other tax wise tools. There is a planned gift to suit every circumstance. Each giving strategy has distinct benefits for you and for the athletics department. The Buff Club can guide you through the available choices and help you strengthen your giving legacy.

MATCHING GIFTS Many companies have programs that match charitable gifts made by their employees in support of institutions of higher education. Please be aware that matching gift policies vary widely by company and often change from one year to the next. We encourage you to be familiar with your company’s current matching gift policy, particularly as the policy relates to giving to athletic programs, before you submit a matching gift claim.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: • Many companies will not match gifts tied to seating and parking contributions, also known as Benefit Giving. •
A number of companies only match the tax-deductible portion of your Benefit Giving, or 80% of your original gift. Non-benefit gifts, also known as Excellence Giving, are usually matched at 100%, but please refer to your company’s policy for confirmation. If your company fails to match your Benefit Giving or only matches a portion of it, you are responsible for the remaining balance. No season tickets or parking will be delivered until full payment has been received.
•
Some companies have specific policies prohibiting gift matching to athletics in any form.
•
Football seating and parking donations are due in full by June 30. Basketball seating donations are due in full by September 30. All matching gifts must be received by the respective deadlines. If you have a balance one month prior to a given deadline, you will be invoiced regardless of whether a matching gift claim has been submitted.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR GIFT CASH DONATIONS Cash or checks are a great way to make an immediate impact with your donation. Gifts are acknowledged by receipt from the University of Colorado Foundation. Please make all checks payable to the University of Colorado Foundation. CREDIT CARDS The Buff Club accepts all major credit cards. It is important to list the name as it appears on the credit card, the account number and the expiration date on the contribution form. PLEDGE You may pledge to join the Buff Club at a specific level and pay the pledge in installments with a recurring credit card charge, completing your pledge by June 30. ONLINE GIVING The Buff Club offers the ability to make a gift online. New donors joining for the first time or existing donors looking to renew their gift should visit www.cubuffclub.com. All donors to the Buff Club have an online account. If you are visiting the site for the first time and are a current Buff Club member, please call the Buff Club office to receive your AD/customer number and verify the e-mail address linked to your account. Then go online to activate your account. All new Buff Club members can register directly online. BENEFITS OF ACTIVATING YOUR ONLINE ACCOUNT •

SECURING THE FUTURE OF COLORADO ATHLETICS ENDOWMENT GIVING
SCHOLARSHIP DONOR PROGRAM
Endowment giving provides an opportunity to establish a legacy of support for CU Athletics that will survive in perpetuity.
Student-athlete scholarships are one of CU Athletics’ largest expenses. The Athletic Department spends nearly $10M/year to support the scholarships of over 300 student-athletes.
Endowments allow a donor to establish a fund in support of any CU athletic program. Each year, distributions from these endowed funds are used for a specific purpose, as defined by the donor. Endowments can provide support for scholarships, facilities, academics, or any other area about which the donor is passionate. Comprised of over 80 funds, CU Athletics’ endowment is currently valued at approximately $15 million. While we are grateful for the contributions of so many loyal endowment donors, this figure is dramatically lower than many of our peers and competitors throughout the Pac-12 Conference and the nation. Our ultimate goal is to build a much stronger pool of endowments, providing much-needed annual financial support. We must increase our focus on this vital source of revenue as we strive for Sustainable Excellence. Join us in our pursuit! Contact a member of our development staff today to learn more about establishing a scholarship endowment for CU Athletics.
The Scholarship Donor Program is an initiative to raise funds specifically allocated towards CU Athletics’ annual scholarship expenses. Your donation goes into a fund that directly supports student-athlete scholarships. Being a Scholarship Donor is an exceptionally rewarding way to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of our student-athletes. Scholarship Donors have the opportunity to build uniquely personal relationships with studentathletes, getting to know them outside of the field of competition.
vitaliya alkhovik Freshman, Tennis
Scholarship support begins at $10,000 per year. Five year commitments are preferred, as that allows you the opportunity to stay paired with a student-athlete from the beginning of their career through graduation. Scholarship donors also receive many additional benefits, including invitations to exclusive events, a premium gift each year, and other experiences that are unique to our scholarship donors. If you would like to learn more about the scholarship donor program, please contact the Buff Club.

FOOTBALL SEATING
Buff Club members are offered the opportunity to purchase football season tickets in the priority seating sections of Folsom Field. Priority seating sections require a minimum per seat contribution to the Buff Club in order to purchase the seats on a season ticket basis. The chart on pg. 15 displays the minimum per seat contribution needed to purchase priority seats. Contributions made for priority seating count toward your total Buff Club annual membership level and earn priority points at the rate of one (1) point per $100. Priority seating contributions do not guarantee seats in a particular section at Folsom Field, but are offered as a guide to illustrate the minimum gift requirement to secure seats if available. All requests for new/additional season tickets and upgraded/improved season ticket locations are accommodated based on the donors’ Buff Club Priority Ranking. Members of the Buff Club staff and CU Ticket Office are available to personally assist you with selecting a season ticket location that matches your desired level of giving. For an appointment, please call the Buff Club. AWAY GAME & BOWL GAME TICKETS Buff Club donors receive first priority for away game and bowl game tickets.

Demand for some away games will exceed demand for others, thus varying the number of donors able to receive tickets for each game. Away game and bowl game ticket quantities are determined by giving level and assigned to a seat location according to donor priority rank. The amount of tickets eligible for purchase for each away game is indicated on the season ticket application. Donors who qualify and would like to pre-order away game tickets should do so when renewing season tickets. However, donors may be refunded if the demand for tickets exceeds the supply. JANUARY 21 PRIORITY DEADLINE – Buff Club members who renew or donate to secure season tickets or parking by this date will receive priority consideration for additional season tickets, upgrades, and away game ticket eligibility. Subject to availability, Buff Club members are offered the opportunity to purchase CU men’s basketball season tickets. All seating in Coors Events Center requires a minimum per seat contribution to the Buff Club in order to purchase seats on a season ticket basis. The seating chart on the next page displays the minimum per seat contribution required to purchase priority seats. Contributions made for basketball priority seating count toward your total Buff Club annual membership level and earn priority points at the rate of one (1) point per $100. Basketball Ticket Assignments and Improvements – The Buff Club begins with the top annual giving level (Director’s Circle) and reviews all requests from those that purchase or request tickets in this category in rank order. After all the requests in this category have been processed, the Buff Club then reviews all requests from those that purchase or request season tickets in the next annual giving level in rank order. This process continues through all the giving levels until all of the available tickets have been assigned.

There are still a number of opportunities to provide financial support for your favorite CU Athletics programs. Two of the easiest ways to provide financial support are through contributions to the Student-Athlete Excellence Fund or the Golden Buffalo Scholarship Fund. The Student-Athlete Excellence Fund (SAEF) is used to provide support for essential operations for Athletics at the University of Colorado Boulder. 2015 MEMBERSHIP GUIDE
PROTECT YOUR TEAM REPRESENTATIVE OF CU’S ATHLETICS INTEREST As a member of the Buff Club, you are considered a “Representative of CU’s Athletics Interest,” commonly referred to as a booster. As a CU booster, you have a higher level of involvement with Buffaloes Athletics than the general public and the Office of Compliance Services would like to make sure you have a better understanding of NCAA rules. RECRUITING
abrianna torres Junior, Track & Field
Only CU coaches may be involved in the recruiting process with recruits or “prospects”. As a booster, you may not have face-to-face contact or reach out and communicate with a prospect, their parent, or their coach. Prospects include any student in grades 9-12. In Men’s Basketball, 7th and 8th grade students are also considered prospects.
EXTRA BENEFITS The NCAA considers an extra-benefit to be any special arrangement for a student-athlete, by a booster, not expressly authorized by the NCAA (i.e., cash; free or discounted meals in restaurants; concert or game tickets; the use of a vehicle). Extra benefit legislation not only applies to a student-athlete, but their friends and family as well. OCCASIONAL MEALS A booster may host a student-athlete, or an entire team, for an occasional meal at their home (not a restaurant), so long as the meal is not excessive and their home is within a 30-mile radius of Boulder. The booster may provide the student-athlete a ride to their home for the meal. Before providing the meal, the booster must receive approval from the Office of Compliance Services. SCHOLARSHIP DONORS

30 2015 MEMBERSHIP GUIDE
The Scholarship Donor program pairs CU student-athletes with scholarship donors. Unfortunately, NCAA rules prevent scholarship donors from selecting which student-athlete they would like to support.
FAQs Q: IS MY CONTRIBUTION TO THE BUFF CLUB TAX DEDUCTIBLE? A: Yes, the Internal Revenue Service allows a full deduction on contributions where there is no tangible or intangible benefit to the donor, otherwise an 80% deduction is allowed when the benefit is received. Contact your financial advisor for detailed information. Please note that contributions are nonrefundable. Q: HOW IS MY GIFT TO THE BUFF CLUB USED? A: Your gift to the Buff Club is used for student-athlete scholarships, facilities, academic services and general operating budget needs of the athletics department. With over 300 student-athletes on campus, the role the Buff Club plays is essential to the success of the Colorado Buffaloes. Q: WHO CAN JOIN THE BUFF CLUB? A: All CU fans are encouraged to join the Buff Club.

Q: CAN I JOIN THE BUFF CLUB IF I DON’T WANT SEASON TICKETS? A: Yes, the Buff Club is Colorado Athletics’ main source of private support. Being a Buff Club member at any level helps CU Athletics build sustainable excellence in strengthening its athletic programs and helps to drive CU’s stature as an elite national university. A successful athletic program needs funding to provide the resources critical to the success of its student-athletes. Annual gifts to the Buff Club are what make all of this possible. Q: DOES MY BUFF CLUB DONATION QUALIFY ME FOR FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL SEASON TICKETS? A: Your cumulative annual donation amount qualifies you for season tickets in football and men’s/women’s basketball. The total gift amount corresponds to seating locations that you are eligible for based on your annual giving level and availability. Q: CAN I PAY BUFF CLUB DONATION IN INSTALLMENTS? A: You can make monthly payments toward your Buff Club pledge. Equal monthly payments can be charged to your credit card on the 1st of each month. If your donation is tied to athletic benefits of any kind, your balance must be paid in full by June 1. Please contact a Buff Club staff member to discuss payment plan options. When setting up a payment plan, please pay special attention to the Priority Deadlines. Priority rankings are based on cash received by the priority deadline date. Q: CAN I TRANSFER PRIORITY POINTS, TICKETS, OR PARKING? A: Tickets can be transferred and the Buff Club would be pleased to discuss this process with you. Unfortunately, priority points and parking cannot be transferred, as these benefits are uniquely associated with each individual donor.
